  1. Next, huh? I was guessing Apartment 2F based off who was involved...

I just looked it up Besser was in a couple of episodes as were the other main four UCB members, seems like a weird thing if he felt the show was stolen from him that he and the people he was working with closest at the time would be signing up to be in. I feel like Besser's the kind of guy that would tell them to fuck off if they offered him a part after the fact.

I don't know, it's probably tacky to speculate but that hasn't stopped us before when Matt's been vague about this type of thing.

I think you are misunderstanding the spirit of the show if you want to have June on and speak of her movie in this way. If you just want the hosts to speak about a project they were involved with, I think that better suggestions might be Year One or Piranha 3DD. In both those cases, June and Paul respectively, were just actors and didn't have a hand in the writing or creation of the film.

this made me think of when, years ago, Paul called into The Best Show on WFMU to talk about his experiences making Piranha 3D.

you can hear it here https://wfmu.org/playlists/BD

it's the one form august 23, 2010. It's really worth a listen for any HDTGM fans, it's one of my favorite things

  3. That Crap on Youtube was hard to listen to, because it was two classic American suburban neighbor stereotypes facing off: the shrill, sanctimonious, overprotective lady against the redneck bully who is raising his kids to be bigger assholes than he is. I hate both of those kids of people.

    fuck. punk'd again!!

that fuckin dude made me so annoyed, one of my biggest pet peeves is people saying "I'm on public property" like it some how gives them the right to be a dickhead

  4.

That was my best guess, too. During the "multiple takes" part, I picked up on something that made me think it was Maria. Anyway, it occurred to me that even though it's frustrating, it actually kind of helps the story because it's easier to get lost in the scene and picture the character rather than the performer. Like, even if Paul is doing a female voice, I'm still picturing Paul.

yeah, after hearing their appearances on James Bonding, Maria strikes me as someone who'd ask for a retake in the middle of an improv scene.

  5. some recent episodes have featured the great irish actors colm meaney and brendan gleeson .. in sharknado 3 you guys are going to be introduced to the grimes twins, john and edward ... better known as JEDWARD.

I am so so so so so so so ...... sorry.

    Blame tara reid

    jedward-main_1555899a.jpg

I can't wait for the scene where one is eaten by a shark and we see the other dealing with the emotional and psychological devastation of the loss of his twin brother. For twenty minutes we watch him go through all 5 stages of grief, he weeps and screams, breaks things, he attempts suicide but eventually he accepts the loss and decides to move on with his life as his own person. then Ian Zering accidentally decapitates him with a chainsaw.

  6. Since everyone seemed to enjoy the New Jersey discussion yesterday, I've taken the liberty of compiling a list of Earwolf/UCB/Podcast type people who hail from the Garden State. I apologize in advance for the amount of real estate this post is going to take up on the forums.

    • Andy Daly
    • Jessica St. Clair
    • Howard Kremer
    • Michael Ian Black
    • Michael Showalter
    • Joe Wengert (citation needed)
    • Tom Scharpling
    • Marc Maron (sort of, but not really. He's the most new jersey person to ever come from new mexico so he makes the list)
    • Zach Woods
    • Kurt Braunohler
    • Tyrion Lannister

    thats enough. I got bored.

  7. I mentioned in the next sentence about Rose McGowan where She made mention of how her agent let her go for going after Sandler on Twitter. While Sandler has had a string of eh movies over the last few years, he still makes enough money and has enough clout that higher ups in the industry seem to not want to rock the boat with him. While they did poke some fun at the Blended trailer, they really didn't give it the HDTGM treatment. My post was in regard to that if they seemingly pulled the Smurfs episode due to eventually starting a working relationship with Jayma, that they may want to play it safe and not try and close any possible doors to future projects, as Sandler is basically the James Patterson of movies and will do anything and put it on a movie screen.

I can't believe I'm defending Adam Sandler but that's a huge leap to make based on one accusation, an accusation that sounds like a lot less plausible a reason for her to be dropped by her agent then say, not being in anything resembling a successful film in over a decade.

  8. I do just want to add that this ep is among my favorites, as well. I'm not a huge FoT or anything, but I do really love Tom himself, his sensibility, and especially all of the Scharpling & Wurster stuff. My love for HH and this community--such as it is--has given me a better appreciation for the devoted fanbase that Tom has long enjoyed.

And it should go without saying that it's a natural fit to have Tom on HH (or Jon, for that matter, maybe even more so), because nowhere else in modern comedy does a program so heavily feature my favorite form of humor, which is, of course, mispronouncing.

    it's a fontasy come true

  9. Hey Nong Man,

Fresh CBB always envigorates my week :D

    But...

I've tried to warm up to Jimmy Pardo over the years since Scott endorses him so highly...I don't get it at all.

To my ear he doesn't seem to be humorous or clever and even his speaking voice seems artificial.

    No sé :|

yeah, I pretty much agree on all of that. I don't hate the guy, I just don't get it. That being said I can see it from the other side too There's tons of comedians I find endlessly funny (Pete Holmes, Andy Kindler, etc.) who have very specific schtick or personality that apparently from what I've read a lot of people hate. So i dunno, this one's gonna be low on my podcast queue today i think. But, hey Jen Kirkman and Matt Gourly are on Spontanianation!

  10. Here is another classic American movie trick, is it real or what. a beer in a brown paper bag. Most of my life growing up i had never seen beer cans in brown paper bags, like in movies like repoman. but I had always thought this was done so they didn't have to pay a beverage company any money for product placement and most likely it's done for just that. also to get the films movie rating down, so it's not so clear they are drinking beer.

    10699130.jpg

I didn't think this was real until I had gone to New Orleans for the first time. it's better explained on the tv show

".why this is done. but it's funny because everyone who's a tourist walks around with a open beer or delicious daiquiri or as I call them a slurpee cup full of booze, that's really what they are. everyone walks around not knowing that this is illegal. yet the police don't do anything about it unless your really getting out of hand. Yet the locals who are often trade workers from the hotels at night goto the local corner store and drink 99c millers from you guest it brown paper bag.

    totally a real thing

  11. Mark Kozelek is getting a lot of lip service on my podcasts. AP Mike from Tom Scharpling's Best Show made a parody song inspired by Sun Kil Moon that I found pretty damn funny: http://thebestshow.n...bart-mike-krol/ (Starts with about 33:00 minutes left). Unrelated to that, but then Scharpling big upped Hollywood Handbook a little later.

Andy Daly saying the Iron Sheik was funny made me laugh more than it should have. Amanda Sitko sounds like Lauren Lapkus' older sister. Andy Daly turning very Danny Mahoney was beautiful, and I'd like to see J Dawg added to his catalog of characters.

you can listen here too http://apmike.bandcamp.com/releases

  12. I remember reading something about how after Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon became such a huge hit in America, there was an entire generation of children who grew up believing that asian people were capable of flight.

Ok, the rest of these were fun but as an American I have to say go fuck yourself. We're dumb but not that dumb.

  13. here is a better example, those Chinese food containers. I have never seen Chinese food restaurants use them here. the little square boxs you see everyone eating out of in movies yet never get delivered in. mostly because of food poisoning. little paper box's can't keep the food temperature worth a shit so most places just aluminum trays. but it's a nice dream, btw some places do use them but not many for good reason.

I can't speak on a lot of the country but I've lived in several different states and the old school paper boxes are pretty rare in the states these days. Most places use plastic containers or aluminum like you said.

  14. I'm going to have to listen to this episode, like, six times because there's so much to it.

But I thought I'd expand a bit on Jason's question about The Foot and if they were named that because of The Hand in Marvel. Basically, the first TMNT comic was a sort of parody of some of the grittier comics of the early 80s, specifically Frank Miller's Ronin and his run on Daredevil. There are a lot of weird, noir-style monologues poking fun at Miller's writing style (which he would later use in his The Dark Knight Returns and Sin City).

So, yes, The Hand became The Foot. But the other big borrow from Splinter, who is the master that trained his young vigilantes to harness their fighting skills. Just like Stick trained Matt Murdock, who eventually became Daredevil. Stick...Splinter...yeah.

also, The Mutants gang from Dark Knight Returns meet at the city dump too!
