    great gatsby? a current movie!

I really don't understand recommending a movie you haven't seen yet. Just because a movie looks like it's going to be shitty doesn't mean it will be and even if it is might not be worthy of an episode, so why not wait until you have seen it before you recommend it? Also, I would love to hear from the people who recently added Children of Men and There Will Be Blood on the FYI site. Even if you don't like those movies, there is absolutely no reason to do an episode on those.

    Mean girls

Not just normal but absolutely gorgeous. I know it's only a distant memory now to most, but Lindsay was one of the hottest, "healthy" looking women in Hollywood at one point. It's still amazing to me, when looking at recent pictures, to realize she's only 26 years old.
  3. I think sillstaw has some good ideas regarding tags, especially requiring a certain number of people selecting a tag in order for it to stay up. I also think just putting a disclaimer telling people to make sure the tag they're adding makes sense because the tags will make it easier to create future theme based polls would help. I think the latter would be the easiest way to keep the tagging situation under control. Maybe I'm giving these people too much credit, but I think they're adding unnecessary tags because they just don't realize how useful they are to you guys in sorting through the movies to create polls.
  4. Kremer looks exactly like steve carell in the third picture.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)

The only problem I see with After Earth bombing is worldwide gross. It will easily make 50-80 million in America and sci fi movies with big name american actors always do really well internationally. I can't think of them now but I know there have been multiple action/sci-fi movies that barely made back their budget domestically and went on to make a pretty good profit based on worldwide numbers. So even if it bombs domestically studios will only look at total, worldwide gross when deciding whether to allow him to shit all over us again.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)

We all gotta believe in something... You're right though.
  7. I got ya and I completely agree. I can't remember what it was but I came across one last night where I literally laughed out loud at what a ridiculous movie it was. My guess is it's a combination of trolling and people adding movies they just don't like because they want to add one that hasn't been added yet, regardless of whether it's worthy of an episode or not. Same with the false tagging, people want to add their own tag even if all the relevant ones have been added. People be crazy.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)

Even though I'm sure neither will, it would be great if After Earth and White House Down bombed. Maybe then M. Night would only be able to direct and not write and Emmerich would be deported for life.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)

I completely agree about M. Night but he is atleast a capable director in a technichal sense. The previews for After Earth look amazing but one thing he can't do is get a great performance from a good actor or a good performance from a not so good actor. Marky Mark being the most obvious example. One thing I find interesting, the studio behind After Earth was smart enough not to put M. Night's name anywhere in the trailers even though he's a very well known director who wrote and directed it, while White House Down has Emmerich's name all over it. I wonder which strategy will pay off.
  10. There are some crazy movies being added but I don't think it's anything we need to worry about. I'd imagine Paul would approve what movies are added to each weeks poll to not only ensure they don't offend anybody they don't want to offend but make sure all the choices are worthy of doing an episode on.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)

This movie is why I have almost no hope for After Earth being any good. Only the kid from Spielberg's The War of the Worlds annoyed me more than Jaden Smith in this movie.
  12. Yeah I had that thought to about abusing removal of tag ability, something about the anonymity of the internet makes people act strangely. Emmerich tag description is perfect.
  13. Love the M. Night and Uwe Boll tags but you're missing the last part of the holy trinity, Roland Emmerich. He's got just as many stinkers as M. Night and just like Night has another one on the way in about a month. Also as far as the "false tagging" if it gets crazily out of hand it might be easier to allow us to delete tags that don't belong ourselves. Just seems like it could be a very time consuming, never ending battle for you guys. And great job on the site, 100 times better than I think any of us were expecting.
  14. Based on how many people are voting, which is way more than I thought would, it might be never ending. I'd say don't bother fixing it, but then that would defeat the purpose of what should be a useful feature.
  15. Not that it's a big deal, but if all the tags at the fyi website that make sense have already been taken you don't have to add ones that make no sense. #straighttoDVD, #basedonbetter?

    FOR YOUR INCONSIDERATION

Really good job on the website. Much more than what I was expecting and just like this site very simple and elegant design. You guys rock and or roll.

    Iron Man 3

Based on the comments made about Captain America, I think I'll give it a second try. I watched Thor and Captain America back to back and might've still been reeling from the first "film" and was unable to enjoy Captain America. I also shouldn't have included Iron Man 3 since I haven't seen it but I usually agree with Peter Travers, Garden State being a big exception.

    Iron Man 3

While I haven't seen this I did see the first 2, frist one was a good solid superhero/action move, second one I didn't care for. What I don't get about movies like this(based on reviews I trust) and ones like Thor, Transformers movies, Captain America etc. is why they have to be so dumb. As seanotron said, this movie will make a bajillion kajillion dollars so why not have a simple, basic story with well written dalogue? People are going to see these summer blockbuster CGI movies no matter what so why not make them be good solid movies instead of nonsensical garbage that even fans of the source material won't really enjoy, but will see multiple times because big things go boom.

I do agree that CGI is probably neccesary for Gatsby, especially because they're trying to recreate olden times NYC, in Australia no less, I just hope they don't go overboard. For outside scenes I can understand, I just hope they don't use it to much for interiors. I also hope it looks better in the finished film than how it's looked in the trailers. I don't know if it's shot on film or not but it has a glossy look that I don't like, but in the context of the film it probably works better than it looks in the trailer. I also hope they don't try to stay to true to exact dialogue from the book. The Great Gatsby is a beautifuly written book but that doesn't necesarily translate to film in every instance, so I hope they're not afraid to change some of the wording while staying true to what they were saying.
  21. Just because people have shitty lives doesn't make it ok to take advantage of that. It's the governments responsiblity to protect workers, even from themselves. When your life is shit you're willing to do anything to improve it, including work yourself to death. And just because they say they're happy to work 14 hours doesn't mean they are, it just means they're so scared to lose their job they'll say anything. There are over a billion people there and companies know they can treat employees any way they want because for every one they lose you hae hundreds more than ready to take their place. If the government doesn't step in companies will continue to treat employees with no regard for their health or well being, and improving their lives from super shitty to just shitty.

I think The Great Gatsby could be good, but I think directors need to cool it with the CGI. If people like Paul Thomas Anderson & Wes Anderson can make beautiful period pieces without any CGI then I don't see why Luhrman needs to have CGI for Gatsby. Even action movies have gotten out of control with CGI with the last Indiana Jones movie being a perfect example. When you look at it compared to The Last Crusade it is amazing how much better Crusade looks because it was almost all shot in these incredibly beautiful, breathtaking locations.

    Jack and Jill (2011)

This is a podcast whose sole purpose is to watch crazy/stupid movies and comment on what they saw, while being entertaining/funny. If you don't like the dynamic, or just wish it would change from time to time, than you're going to be dissapointed. They've been doing this for a couple years and I don't see any reason for them to go out of their way to change the format of any episode. As for Bynes, Spears and Lohan were both very big stars, Lohan right on the edge of becoming huge, while Bynes was never that big of a star and hasn't been for a number of years. She was a kid star who had a shitty sitcom on WB or CW and never had any kind of blockbuster movie roles. The fact is most people, me included, see this as, atleast partially, an attempt to stay in the public eye. If not for her crazy behavior she could easily be at the Hilary Duff level of fame. P.S. I completely agree about Justin, somebody needs to shut that motherfucker up!

    Hemlock Grove

While I agree 13 episodes seems a bit much, I can understand somebody being so amazed at how shitty a show is that they feel compelled to watch it. It's especially forgivable when all the episodes are available at once and the entire season is basically one long movie. What I can't understand is how somebody could possibly judge a show that is basically a 13 part mini-series based on the first 3 minutes. Even if you were going into it expecting the worst, which I was, to judge it based on 3 minutes is much more ridiculous than being sucked in by the shitiness of it. It took me 3 episodes to give up on it and unless you had no intention of trying to like it, you would've given it more than 3 minutes. Also, even though you don't find something to be good-bad, other people might.
  25. I agree. I don't know what that other poster was talking about but I have enjoyed all the latest episodes, even if I didn't enjoy the movies. After listening to this one I realized that I had fallen asleep about half way through because I didn't remember most of what they were talking about. After rewatching it today I think they were all spot on with the commentary. And if anybody would like to know why Jack & Jill is more than just a horrible movie, watch the Half In The Bag review of it on Youtube.
