  1. Repo! The Genetic Opera

I'm actually not sure if this is a good movie but, when it came out, I'd watched it about 5 times and had fun every time. I think it's cheesy and sensational.

Don't get it confused with Repo Man which came out around the same time. Repo! The Genetic Opera is a musical that stars Spy Kid (Aelxa PenaVega), Giles (Anthony Head) and Paris Hilton (you might now her as Paris Hilton).

In a dystopian future where organ failure becomes an epidemic. A biotech company offers healthy organs on loan. What happens when you can no longer pay for your organs? The repo man (Giles) comes after you! It's also some metaphor about the addiction of plastic surgery or something like that. That's what I remember at least. What I remember most is this movie is bonkers! There's singing, there's gore, there's Paris Hilton! HOT! What more can you ask for?!

You can rent it on Amazon Prime for $1.99.

  2. I'm here with a recommendation. If you even slightly enjoyed the concept of the Lake House:

Last night, by coincidence ,I've watched an Anime called "Your Name" that is like the Lake House but done so much better. Instead of having a mailbox, the main characters switch bodies. I guess it's kind of like Freaky Friday too. It's much more than just switching bodies. I don't want to spoil anything. In this movie, God is not a dog, God is a comet... I think. Anyway. I totally recommend "Your Name" if you like the Lake House. It's out on a limited release in the U.S.

  3. I didn't know that about Hong Kong movies and ADR. I can vouche that Hong Kong movies used to be ADR'ed all the time. I just didn't know why. Also when a Hong Kong movie was released, it would be released in different dialects. Mandarin (main dialect) and Cantonese are the two biggest ones but, Mandarin would always be released first and then a few months later, Cantonese. As a Cantonese speaker, I'd always found this annoying.

Imagine if Hollywood did that and release a British ADR version of the movie first, and then a few months later, the American ADR. What the hell?! No one can understand the Brits! Cheerio, mate!

  4. Looking at the credits, the Fight Choreographer was Robin Shou, Liu Kang in the movie.

And, to take it further, in MK: Annihalation, Robin Shou's stunt double... Tony Jaa!

NO WAY!!! Tony Jaa was Robin Shou's stunt double in the sequel???? I need to watch it now just to see Tony Jaa with puffy hair!

Also, Dexter Morgan's father is Raiden.

  5. PUFFY HAIR

This time around I've noticed that Lui Kang's hair gets super puffy during the beach scenes. It's probably because of the humidity. it's also puffy in Outworld, I guess whatever forces Shang Tsung used to destroy Outworld, it had a lot of humidity. What's with the people scurrying around in Outworld? Are they crack fiends?

Yes, I said, "this time around." I've watched this movie countless times since it came out in theaters. It's one of my guilty pleasures and it definitely fits into the Enter the Dragon theme night/weekend (along with Balls of Fury). But this is the only time that I've noticed Lui Kang's extra puffy hair. Mortal Kombat is like fine wine, you get more out of it as it ages. Wait, maybe the analogy should be cheese. The older it gets the more mold you'll notice?

Love this bad movie. Love the soundtrack (no sarcasm). I thought my friend was going to play the theme at his wedding for the first dance. We were so disappointed when Kenny G came on instead of "MORTAL KOMBAT!"

  6. This makes ZIggy look like War & Peace. This is some Family Circus-level shit here. Jesus, he can't even draw what's supposed to be a NORMAL person sitting in a chair. To his credit though, it looks like he spent more time on the background than in anything else he's ever done.

Also, notice how the feet are cut off.

  7. So there it is, the genesis of Rob Liefeld's technique. He's based every drawing of every human being on a physique and pose that only looks natural on Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1970. Well. Done. Sir.

I remember reading about Rob Liefeld not having any original drawings. He copies from pictures and other artists. I understand that inspiration can come from photos or artists. Or you can use references but you can't base your entire career on it. There are a couple of artists in the 90's whom have based the look of the Hulk on Arnold but they were not straight up copying from pictures (or not doing it as often). The 90's Marvel Artists Rob Liefeld, Jim Lee, Todd McFarlane, etc... got too cocky. They kept on missing deadlines because they were not working as hard as they should be. Or they were not working at all. Liefeld had been known to admit that he drew during his drive into work, in order to meet deadlines.

    Hmm...

(How Did This Get Turned Into Rob Liefeld)

  8. God damn... Rob fucking Liefeld. His amateurish bullshit excuse for art/illustration still pisses me off. He fails on every level a comic book artists could conceivably fail at; it's not realistic, not aesthetically appealing, not titillating, not imaginative, not fantastical, Hell, it's not even good at being exploitive. It's worse than anything in this movie.

  9. We recently double featured Street Fighter with Mortal Kombat, and I for one, am a little insulted that they are even doing this because comparatively, Mortal Kombat is a waaaaaaay better movie And LOOK AT LIU KANG'S GORGEOUS FEATHERED MULLET

Some one had mentioned Rob Liefeld. Lui Kang looks like a Liefeld drawing.
