Rotten Tomatoes 60 Worst Reviewed Summer Movies
PhillipMedoc replied to Lando's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I'm not shocked because you're the guy saying Movie 43 ain't all that bad. -
Cosigning this statement. Emphasis added because, duh.

"We rented this car wash, we need to get through 40 pages of dialogue, let's do it." "In a world where street racing was legal... they just wanted to drive the speed limit." "Hey Scott? Hey Scott? We didn't make this movie." "...that's why I really hate sharks." "Do you think the tornado wanted to accumulate money and sharks to become powerful?" --- Watched this last night -- it is indeed next level ers. Everyone needs to see this. Torrents are moving pretty fast right now, so get on it. One thing I have to mention is the fucking bombs they make to somehow stop the three(!) sharknados are made out of a road flare, a smoke detector, and a tiny propane tank like the size you'd use for a camping grill, all taped together with what I think was gaffer tape. Also -- do liquor stores in Los Angeles stock toiletries and stuff? Is that actually a thing or just this movie? I really really really wish there were video versions of this show sometimes, especially for episodes like this -- I really wanted to see June's monologue and ten-gallon hat. ALSO! June and Paul's explanation of their greeting at the intro was amazeballs. I give it five stars. Last time we visited some family in LA, we drove through the "Little Japan"(?) part of the city and there was a Family Mart there. Typical conveni but they stock some Japanese snacks and such. I grabbed some Umeboshi candy. Not sure why it randomly appeared in this movie.

I agree with you. I enjoyed it but this thread shows that we're in the minority. Different boats for different goats. I don't think this would be a good episode at all because 1) it's not an objectively "bad" or bad/good movie, and 2) there's very little to actually discuss.

Working for Asylum probably isn't like being Scrooge McDuck swimming in his money pool, but they give a lot of work to actors, writers, vfx houses, etc. There's a guy here in Portland who has written some Asylum flicks ( comes to mind) and it supplements his day job; not everyone can say they've written a script that got filmed, released, and is available at a Redbox. There's a good interview with him here. Choice quote:

holy shit, this is the funniest thing anyone has typed on this forum.

Yeah, it's crazy how they would do that in a Cantonese-language action movie when they release it in America.

Pirates of the Caribbean 2, 3, 4, & 5 (in production!) Dark Shadows Charlie In The Chocolate Factory The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus fuck it, pretty much everything after 1999. This has nothing to do with "us" white people (we're not all white here) feeling good à la that movie The Help. This has everything to do with how ALL people need to stop doing dumb racist shit, even if they think they're somehow fucking subverting it or being ironic or what the fuck ever. I agree to disagree and I'm out of this thread.

EarBear, you get all my likes, for all eternity. Please PM me your address so I can send you a breakfast burrito. So I was looking at Cute Overload with the missus last night and there was this: And she thought it was funny but didn't get the reference. I explained that there is a movie called Sharknado and it's an actual thing; we watched the trailer and then she immediately called her Dad and very excitedly tried to explain it to him. ... Clarknado -- Supermen (Supermans?) Marky Marknado -- self-explanatory Trailer Parknado -- I'm pretty sure this is an actual reality show on TLC Snarknado -- this is all Gawker commenters

Not super obscure stuff, obviously, but say something like the 2008 Korean film The Good, The Bad, The Weird? It's on Netflix instant. It's definitely not a bad movie by any means, but very crazy and over the top. Might make for a good "fun" episode in the vein of Crank or Fast & Furious. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzNnCK5cd8Q Or maybe a Tony Jaa movie? The first Ong Bak is pretty bonkers; so is The Protector. Anyways, everyone should at least watch The Good, The Bad, The Weird. It's super entertaining and there's a couple of really handsome men in two of the leading roles.

Shit, for a brief second I thought you guys were talking about a sequel to Mask.

Episode 66 — Demolition Man: LIVE!
PhillipMedoc replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
HEY MANIAC! Wyatt killed it. He was very cool and grounded, like June. And I was so on board with June this episode, because she was asking the question I wanted to know: what is going on in the rest of the world? So much in this movie that they didn't even get to the central point the film hinged on -- at least, as I understood it -- why was it necessary for Mayor Cocteau to cryo-train and then thaw out Phoenix in order to kill Edgar Friendly (Denis Leary)? Surely there was a better method? What exactly was Cocteau's 5-year plan? -

This is one of the funniest things I've ever read: Journal of a new COBRA recruit -
Yo, is this racist? If they needed Depp, why not have him in the lead? No reason he couldn't be. Find an Native American actor to play Tonto. No, wait, just don't even do the movie because it's so problematic. In 2013, it's absolutely insane that many layers of executives and creative types accepted that Tonto was an okay thing to do. This is a thing that needs to stop. It's so offensive, so incredibly offensive.

You can also get it on Amazon Instant (it's worth the $2.99, trust me) to watch on your computer, Roku, Xbox, or whatever. You can rent it on Youtube (this is new to me, didn't know that was a thing) for $1.99. Fun movie, seriously. Looking forward to this episode.

Ku: "The woman form is gorgeous." Jon: "We're getting used to it."

Sometimes I feel like people are copy-pasting user reviews from Metacritic or something.

I had a huge list of WTFHDTGM after watching Demolition Man recently; pretty excited to have it fresh in my memory. This should be a good one. I really hope they address my biggest beef with the movie: Seriously, the movie never mentions any other part of the world except for San Angeles -- or did I miss it?

This wonderful little movie was out of print for the longest time; used VHS copies used to go for $40 on ebay. Now you can buy it on DVD straight from the director, at his website. I also recommend The Beaver Trilogy, which is too amazing for words. Also notable is Crispin Glover's infamous interview on Letterman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dYjdKbMT_c In which he is apparently playing the Rubin character, possibly in an attempt to promote the movie? But the movie's release was delayed for several years and so nobody got the joke. And that is how Crispin's reputation as The Weird One was firmly cemented in the public's mind. (Granted, he is eccentric, but pretty normal if you've seen "regular" interviews). I love Rubin & Ed, and "My cat can eat a whooole watermelon!" is among the greatest lines anyone has ever spoken. Also! Karen Black plays the ex-wife, and she is a delight as usual.

Episode 134.5 — 06/28/13 TWO CHARTED 73
PhillipMedoc replied to Brett Arnold's topic in Who Charted?
Kulap's baby voice is making me feel feelings I didn't know I had. I'm not sure what to do with this, except to agree that it definitely needs to be all over Howard's next album. -
So boring, so so boring. My only takeaway was that there must be some default base model in whatever CGI programs artists are using these days, because that Kraken looked pretty much 80% like every other CGI monster in the last ten years.

All the Asylum ripoff movies at Redbox have little disclaimers in the description like "PLEASE NOTE: Hansel & Gretel is not related to the 2013 film Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters". Hilarious. Having said that, I totally received Asylum's Abraham Lincoln VS Zombies (blu-ray, even) as a gift because my mom probably thought it was the other one.

Whoa, that is a bold statement. I'll admit that Grizzly Man got a little exploitative at times, but that's the worst he's done; he's hardly Michael Moore gravely placing a framed photo of a dead girl on senile Charlton Heston's porch. If you're being sincere then I don't think we can be BFFs anymore. Herzog is far and away one of the best documentary filmmakers of all time, not to mention his fictional stuff like Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call: New Orleans. Well, I agree with him, as I said earlier. I don't think he's "insane" at all, but quite eccentric and his creativity borders on genius. If you care to take the time, read Herzog on Herzog; shit, I'll even send you my dog-eared copy. He is a very, very smart and driven man. Crazy people don't spend their lives making over 60 films, some of which are very well regarded.
