  1. I believe that the Damian referred to in the Amazon review is Michael "Rock On/Young and the Restless" Damian who is the writer/director/producer. Also I laughed at the scene where Blackwell meets his downstairs neighbors. They invite him in and say "We're a dance crew. So sit down an watch us dance." Then they proceed to each do a solo so that Hayward can introduce them middle of the concert "here's the band" style.

Episode 227 - Double Dragon: LIVE!

Super late observations: When they get into the elevator (in Robert Patrick's office), the doors don't close. Then we get some b-roll of an elevator descending. Then they 'get out' but the doors again don't appear, the group is just there on the bottom floor. It is mentioned that the federal government doesn't help them when the earthquake hits. Why isn't George Hamilton listed in the credits? Is he embarrassed to be in a movie that he mentions his own name? When we first meet Milano she is 'disguised' as graffiti by wearing the coat but they are all facing the wall. Do they just stand in the alley all night just in case someone comes down the alley so they can jump out at them?

    Disorderlies (1987)

The best Fat Boys movie ever!

    Episode 224: Starcrash: LIVE!

So maybe his name was 3113 and Thor was reading upside down? Speaking of upside down, I think George Lucas ripped off Star Crash with the Wampa scene and hanging someone by their feet. Also, I'm waiting for Nundercover 2: Undercover Librarians starring June.

    Episode 222 - Unforgettable

Great scene at the end when the boys on their bikes ride by and say, "Hello, Mrs. Connover." Probably because of her proclivity to wear short see-through robes out to gather the mail. And here's the plots of the next movies. One, a prequel with Katherine Heigl as the mother in the style of Mommie Dearest. Finally, a sequel where the now teenaged daughter burns down their house and the cycle begins anew.

    Episode 222 - Unforgettable

BOTH sides are right. The disfigurement made her decide to do the noble sacrifice. As Katherine looked in the mirror she saw the same scratches that were on Rosario's face on her own. She then realized that she was becoming just like her mother and decided to break the cycle by killing herself. Katherine hugs Rosario to keep Rosario from blaming herself for having to kill her.

    Episode 222 - Unforgettable

What about the husband telling his story of being hit with a poker? Then it would make sense that Rosario was acting in self-defense as she was also attacked. I'm going with reasonable doubt in this case. The worst part was the detective basically saying, "I guess all that other stuff we accused you of earlier was a mistake and certainly can't be seen as more of the same. Sorry. See you at the hospital."
  8. I know it was supposed to refer to hibernation but would it have been any better if the tour was called "Hi Bear Nation"?
  9. I was impressed by the music in this. John Hiatt is the lead singer for the Country Bears and the Don Henley/Bonnie Raitt song was great.

This is free on Hoopla which may be available through your local library. It is worth the watch!

Episode 213 - Shanghai Surprise (w/ Jordan Rubin)

Why was the music so amped up for the rickshaw race? Belloq went even faster after he was thrown from his rickshaw and caught them in no time. It was like watching a race of lazy people. I also thought the humping wicker basket scene was supposed to be 'funny' and 'erotic'. Wasey's basket was doggy-styling Tatlock's basket until they both slid down the stairs. What was the thing he ate in the bathtub to 'keep him up all night'? It looked like peanut M&M's. The Shanghai Surprise was a big money belt which is used in that time period to hide money (obviously). It's supposed to not show under clothes so that when your pockets are searched, your valuables are not found. I thought the mothballs that fell out of the second Surprise were somehow activated by water(?) and then they exploded. I think they missed the characterization of Tatlock as a girl from the bad side of town who was trying to go straight but still had learned how to be a criminal with skills such as lock picking and seducing men. She used her accent more when they were on the run and she was not trying to impress the priest with her wholesomeness.

Episode 213 - Shanghai Surprise (w/ Jordan Rubin)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_knuckleball_pitchers There were two knuckleball pitchers active in the majors in 1938. The David Bowie song 'China Girl' came out three years before this movie. I don't think that anyone would have even batted an eye at that name. I assumed that it was a nickname that Belloq gave his favorite concubine.

Episode 213 - Shanghai Surprise (w/ Jordan Rubin)

Since I am a baseball fan, I noticed he gripped the ball to throw a knuckleball and wondered why he was throwing a pitch that is slow when presumably he should impress Joe Go with his fastball.

    Episode 212.5 - Minisode 212.5

This week's movie, Shanghai Surprise, is on Vudu and Tubi, both with ads, for free.
  15. The school is John Abbott College in Montreal. It has approximately 7000 students.
  16. I don't think Duchovny was going to give up his lucrative optometry/matchmaking business to teach a person he knew was an adult mentally. Why would dropping out of high school further her academic success? The daughter was presumably on her way to honors level at school. The C giving teacher said she wasn't going to just let her slide by because other teachers were letting her. Then when she made better grades the teacher gave her the 'see I told you' look. She was upset that the African example lasted seven years. The 'scientist' said he didn't know if that was always the case because his scientific research only found one other similar case.
  17. I forgot to mention the great line where mom-in-daughter and Duchovny pull up to the school and she says something like I can't do this and Duchovny says, "You've read all her books. You're ready." As if she has crammed that in during all this hectic time.
  18. It seemed that there were several missing connections which were not shown that would have made more of a movie out of this. The guidance counselor is definitely hitting on Duchovny, which could have made for a jealous 'daughter' plot. The mom-in-daughter could have sowed her wild oats with either of the two losers (both giving intense I want you stares) or with the photography/journalism teacher who invited her over to his house for 'studies' which was then promptly dropped and never revisited. The French title "Si J'etais Toi" translates to "If I Were You" which makes for a better title. I ran across the blog of a guy who reviews movies made in or set in Montreal which brings yet another country into this United Nations of what was created where. (He also had a suspiciously similarly titled podcast called "Why Does It Exist"). The original movie "Himitsu" is on Netflix in case anyone wants to check it out.
  19. I thought that was supposed to show that there was a remnant of the mom in her that she will never lose. The previous comment on how the original Japanese movie has the mom tricking would make your interpretation make sense except that it wasn't really hinted at during the movie.
  20. Why were so many people getting blinded? The kid, Cusack, whoever the birds were attacking... it was a constant attack on the eyes.

    Episode 206.5 - Minisode 206.5

Which couple? Like Hamlet, all the main characters died except Jackie Chan. I thought the movie was very straightforward. And if you cut out all the fight sequences, it would be about 45 minutes long. Have you ever seen a Jackie Chan movie? The long choreographed fight sequences are a signature touch.

    Episode 206 - Little Italy

Let's focus on the real love story: Jogi and Jessie. Despite Jogi's attraction to older women and Jessie's Def Comedy Jam put downs, they have a more sensible plotline than Lay-O and Nikki. It was much more fun watching these two interact then the main characters. I would for sure watch a movie about these two. My question about them is why they wore ethnic styles to the wedding? Could the movie have been saved an R rating by dropping the blooper reel? It seems that all the heavy cursing ('F's) and deep sexual reference (Luigi's cock holder) were during that part. Also, why did Luigi need a cock holder in place at all? Couldn't they have just started the scene with the shorts under his butt and go from there?
  23. It wouldn't have been as dramatic as a sledgehammer but Statham could have just unplugged the phone from the wall or taken the receiver. Then the best she could have done was tap the wires together calling randos with no way to talk to them.
  24. I thought he was offering William H. Macy a spot on his squad but that Macy knew about it (perhaps they had a group that beat up some drug runners). Later when Macy starts shooting at Emmerich, he seems to have forgotten that Emmerich has a goon squad.
  25. Chris Evans knows he's been calling a landline because KB says that she has put the phone back together. The line he calls back (KB's) is then presumably a landline even though Statham either has it call forwarded or is using a cordless phone. Don't forget that, for whatever reason, this house has a phone that has several connecting lines which was shown when Dmitri (?) finds out KB is on the house line. I'm more concerned with Ryan parking wherever the hell he wants (at the pier, in front of the police station, RIGHT IN FRONT of the packed cell phone store, etc.) Also, is the kidnapper's house the same one that John Stamos lived in "Never Too Young to Die"? Same wooden staircases and sparse interior.
