Episode 227 - Double Dragon: LIVE!

I will give the movie some credit for correctly predicting that Vanna White wouldn't age at all between 1994 and 2007 because she pretty much still looks just like that NOW. As for George Hamilton and Andy Dick ... a bit less spot on prediction of their aging processes.

Episode 227 - Double Dragon: LIVE!

Can we discuss the special effects a bit? I know it's no surprise that an HDTGM movie has pretty terrible FX, but I was in high school when this movie came out, making videos with friends at our local Community Access TV Station, doing our effects on a machine called a Video Toaster. And I feel like those effects weren't substantially worse than a lot of what we see here. And maybe nobody would have noticed in 1994. But then you cast, as the character who does the most morphing/transforming and other FXy stuff, Robert Patrick. We had all seen him, three years before, in T2 morphing via the best, most state-of-the-art effects Hollywood had at the time. Of all actors you could transform with D-grade effects, why pick the one guy we'd seen transform the best way possible? it's like if you made a movie three years from now and cast Josh Brolin as a different large purple-skinned villain, but instead of using advance digital effects you just stuck him in an old grape costume from a Fruit of the Loom commercial.

    Episode 512 - Whatโ€™s Your AIM?

Did anybody else immediately check out if blapron.com was a real URL the second we were commanded to? I did it and learned a few seconds before PFT that it just redirected to the real site. My first thought was "Oh, I bet Scott and Paul contacted Blue Apron after they recorded this ad to tell them to grab the URL." But those foodies were one step ahead of all of us. Chestnut checkers indeed!

    Episode 449 - Nasty Lyrics

Here's how crazy this election is driving me: I've gotten so hyper-aware of people complaining about HRC's voice, of Trump talking over her during debates and all the ways men try to tell women to shut up, that I got genuine upset with Scott and Paul -- two of my favorite human beings! -- for telling "Trish and Beverly" to stop shouting. Yes, of course I realized these were not actual women! I've just been driven close to madness by 2026. This was before the Trump supporter characters showed up, btw.
  6. If this is too self-serving or self-promotional, I will happily delete the post. A few years back I wrote a play called NEW KIDS AT VAMPIRE HIGH. It's a parody of Twilight and other vampire properties, about a high school for vampires and the first two human students who go there. I hadn't heard of the Vampire Academy books when I wrote it. https://www.playscripts.com/play/2043 It's intended for Middle School drama clubs to perform. It's very silly and goofy. On purpose. I'm about 20 minutes into the latest HDTGM and it looks like this movie out-ridiculoused me without even trying ...

  8. "Did Kelsey Grammer see the Gramercy Theatre?" sounds a little like a palindrome, but it isn't.
  9. Did Kelsey see the cast of Frasier? What did Grammer see?

Episode 400 - The War on Surfing

There is also a band called Fastball. It's 7:26 AM, EST, I am 40 minutes into the episode, and I thought it was vitally important to pause the show, come here, and mention that fact.

    Best of 2015 Pt. 4

I loved Kid Detectives. A lot. But does no one else remember that Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers did a sketch very much like it on their first season of SNL? Also a brother and sister who solve mysteries, also getting involved in a grisly murder case. http://snltranscripts.jt.org/01/01dbookie.phtml Now, of course I am not accusing anyone of theft or plagiarism. Even if Lauren or Thomas did see the sketch 14 years ago, I doubt they deliberately copied it. No, I think they just had similar inspiration and it resulted in similar, though not identical, execution. Still, I'm surprised no one else remembered the SNL sketch here on this message board. I can't be the dorkiest SNL geek here, can I? I kept expecting Scott to mention it on the Best Of, a la the Launchpad/Scrooge distinction.

    Best of 2015 Pt. 3

Yeah, just listened to that part again. I guess the voice Wengert was doing sounded a little like the Launchpad voice (which, according to the Disney Wiki was based on Cliff Clavin from Cheers) and I suppose Launchpad does better fit the "man's man" character. But, yeah, he says he's taking care of his cousin Don's kids from the beginning. (I think Donald was also a nephew, not a cousin, since he always called Scrooge "Uncle Scrooge" too, but there's a remote chance that Joe Wengert isn't as much of an obsessive dork as I am)

    Best of 2015 Pt. 3

Respectfully, I don't want to dwell on episodes I didn't like. It seems unproductive and it seems to, at least somewhat, annoy Scott and the other people who gave us a lot of free entertainment this year. I went REALLY nerdy this year and kept a file where I gave letter grades to every episode. The goal was to make sure I didn't just wind up voting for episodes with my reliable favorites -- PFT, Lauren, Jessica and Lennon, Andy Daly, Zouks, etc. If course, in the end, most of the highest-rated episodes tended to have those guys on them, anyway ... What can I say? Paul, Lauren, and Jason in particular had a fantastic year. I forgot about Tick Tock Clawk. That was my other favorite from this year that seems unlikely to chart. There was a really incredible run of episodes from 374-378 (Tick Tock, Womptacular, Romantic Tommy D, Good Night in the Morning, and Mailer Daemon).

    Best of 2015 Pt. 3

I think the prediction that "Kid Detectives" "Not F&P 4" and "Heynong Man" will be the top three is likely, probably in that order. Good choices, though "KD" and "F&P" didn't make my personal Top Ten (Top 20 absolutely). The only one that I think is being tragically overlooked is "Romantic Tommy D."
