  1. Not really a correction but a omission.

The actor who voiced Gooby; Robbie Coltrane, is not the same person who was in the super awesome looking Gooby costume. That was played by Derek Scott.

Also just a fun fact the movie scored a mere 20% on rotten tomatoes, the kicker only 5 people reviewed it.

Derek Scott is Canada's Andy Serkis.

  2. I am a huge fan of HDTGM.

Also, I like the Flop House podcast.

It troubles me that the next movie HDTGM is covering was just covered by Flop House like 3 weeks ago.

    Is this a total coincidence?

    It's a total coincidence I'm afraid.

This episode would have been pre-recorded a while back like all recent and upcoming episodes, owing to June being with child.

  3. I know this has been suggested elsewhere on the forums but perhaps they could do books.

My suggestion for How Did This Get Written? would be 'Kinski Uncut', the autobiography of the late actor Klaus Kinski where he recounts his life as a hyper-intense priapic man-child who is in a constant state of blood boiling rage or uncontrolled lust. To give you a flavour, he recounts an incident when he was on a plane with his wife and he has sex with a flight attendant which his wife is not happy about. The whole episode is dispensed with in only one line. The book is literally bonkers.

To accompany the book I would suggest watching 'My Best Fiend' Werner Herzog's documentary about their tempestuous working relationship. All the Herzog/Kinski films are awesome.

  4. I tend to believe that Zach Snyder is not really a film maker but rather a perpetrator of crimes against humanity who should one day be put on trial in The Hague. So I will not be seeing this but I have enjoyed the splendidly pointed reviews it has inspired such as this one from a historian who assesses movies on their historical accuracy and entertainment value.

;"The first few minutes of 300: Rise of an Empire set out its wares: there's beheading, jiggling breasts, rape, a world view derived from Fox News (Darius the Great of Persia invaded Greece, we learn, because he was "annoyed by Greek freedom", macho military anachronism (Greek hero Themistocles is skilled in something called "Athenian shock combat"), blood and mud both spurting around in 3D on the screen like thick black slime, waxed chests, teeny tiny leather man-panties, a portentous voiceover and racism. If you love all that stuff, saddle up your battle rhino: the wilful massacre of ancient Mediterranean history that was 300 is back."

"Distractingly, almost every scene has been overlaid by VFX of sparks, cinders and bits of dust floating around in the air, so that the whole affair begins to resemble a gay neoconservative snowglobe."

The only positive we can draw from the untimely passing of Edward Said is that he did not live to see this.
