I know this is going viral right now and has some 20 million views, but I'm trying to deal with it. Looking at his other videos, I don't believe he has the disabilities this video might lead you to assume. But what is this? Is he this terrible, or is he an excruciatingly funny comic genius? I'm hoping for the latter. I just hope he's in on the joke and not the Tommy Wiseau or William McGonagall of the music world. It's an interesting proposition, Elitist. For a time, you couldn't turn on a T.V. set without running into Tiny Tim or Pat Paulsen (does anyone remember him? I loved him as a kid, but he can't seem to make me crack even a grin now). Could he have cut it at any other time? I can't help but think he would have, somehow. He was a truly determined guy. He gave it his all when he performed and he was unique. I like the work Tim did with Brave Combo in the middle 90s. On the subject of people having accidents, back in the early '70s there was a band called Bloodrock who did a song called D.O.A. I was six at the time, and my friends and I were fascinated with and haunted by this song. We'd listen to it like a bunch of ghouls and puzzle over the meaning of the bloody lyrics in the same way we might share a recap of a grisly horror movie or scary nightmare. Good topic! Between Jake and Julie Klausner (did I just marry them in that sentence?), I've been exposed to so much! I'm listening to the archives of The Best Show, and that has become a compulsion. I just got the DVD of Overnight, the documentary about the writer/director of The Boondock Saints. I knew nothing about TBS and was sort of forced into seeing it. I could see a few minutes in how terrible it was about to be, and decided to enjoy it on that level. It was extremely enjoyable once I did that mental footwork! Willem Dafoe took an utterly braindead movie and made it dance and sing! My admiration for him now knows no bounds. I'm planning to get Shock Treatment soon as well. I adore Juana Molina's music. She was a huge comedy star on Argentinian TV before she gave it up for her first love, music. That can't have been easy considering how unique her sound is. It's unimaginable that U.S. or European stars would allow themselves to be presented in such a funny, silly and playful way as Molina does here.
