  1. "But you just said you liked music."

    "I don't know."

I feel like this perfectly sums up the episode for me. There was no rhyme or reason to anything, and the point was to just have a good show. So much off the mic laughter, and I think this was the first CBB! since the introduction of Dalton Wilcox to make me laugh so hard I cried.

Confession: When I'm alone, I sometimes think about how I'd handle being on CBB! I always seem so cool and collected in my head, but I'm afraid that if this scenario were to actually occur, I would be a bumbling idiot who might actually crap themselves. So good on ya, Michael. You held your own like a boss.

  2.

Perfect critical read of the episode. I'm absolutely all in for letting PFT run amok everytime anytime always, as the reward always beats risk, but "squelched" is the perfect word for Wengert on this one. He didn't have much room here. The guy is super sharp and funny and I hope he gets more chances this year.

Appreciate it. I was wary of being critical of PFT, but Wengert had some solidly droll bits that I felt got a bit snipped. Poor out of luck Doug. I feel like he and Hot Dog would get along great with their shared bad luck. I loved the melancholy trying to suppress laughter every now and then as well. I wouldn't mind hearing Doug Doyzoice back soon.

  3. Wengert got thrown into the fire here and balked a little bit. I wish he would've done better though this was a difficult ask. Not a lot of room to move inside the Scotty/PFT/Weirdo Al perfecto trifecta -- especially when trying out a half-baked character. I do hope we get more Wengert this year.

If we're being honest here, and we are, I felt like at times PFT was doing a Jon Daly as Zappity Tappity with how he would steamroll certain bits and/or immediately cut someone off or interject without listening. Usually I have no qualms with PFT, but he seemed way more overeager than usual on this one, and I think it ended up squelching Wengert and eventually led him to clam up.

  4. Re: the episode - This was really damn funny. So many literal 'lol' moments. Chelsea Peretti is so damn funny, and I wish the world could get more of her, but I guess I'll just settle for old stand-up specials and Brooklyn Nine Nine for now. And I love how Adam's timing is either spot on or stuttering to catch up to the joke at times. And of course... Harris. But from the opening riffing on Adam's bagel to the friendly frustration of not wanting to read the emails balanced with needing to go, a CBB! classic.

  5. When I first heard the news of Harris Wittels, I was really bummed because it came 10 years after another way too early loss - Mitch Hedburg. Then, this bit of Taoist philosophy came to me: "Life should be enjoyed while it lasts, and death should not be feared. When Chuang Tzu's wife died, he banged on a drum and sang. His colleagues questioned the propriety of this. 'If I were to fall sobbing and wailing for her,' he replied, 'I should think that I did not understand what appointed for all. Therefore, I restrained myself.'"

So bang that drum and let us remember the moments that brought us all many moments of joy and laughter.

  6. Listening to this at the gym on the treadmill was one of the worst decisions I have made thus far in my life. My god the variety of PFT characters, the delight that is Gilly, and the great newcomer Colin. 10/10 will listen again.

This is exactly why I've banned myself from listening to Comedy Bang Bang and Improv4Humans at the gym. I can't imagine listening to this one at the gym. What a fantastic one all around. It's all been said, and I think I'm out of likes for the day, so I'll just say good on you all involved.

  7. Great solo eps across the board. Given how different my sibling and I are, dynamics like this always throw me off, but I definitely enjoyed it. That story with Tig, her dad, and her half-brother was just freakin' great, too.

Looking forward to getting the gang back together though!

  8. I found Jack perfectly likable and like a guy who could easily hang in my friendship circle. Also, can anyone explain to me this bizarre Fun-Queen connection the internet seems to be hung up with? I've only heard a handful of Fun songs, and they haven't sounded anything like Queen. Do they have a song that sounds like "Stone Cold Crazy" or "Bicycle" that I haven't heard? Is their lead singer skilled in a wide vocal range and known for masterful showmanship? I'm just trying to see this comparison.

Per usual, Horatio Sanz is a god and Miram Tolan is always fun.

  9. lmao those WTF burns were pretty sick. It's true though, he went through all the good guests really quick. Haven't listened in forever. He needs to start doing repeats.

Yeah... Richard Linklater, Paul Thomas Anderson, Melissa Etheridge, St. Vincent, Jenny Slate, Chrissie Hynde, Norman Lear... really shitty guests over the past couple of months. Let me guess... needs more comedians and comedic actors, because those are in such large demand blah blah blah

  10. Arguing about musical guests on a comedy podcast. Did I accidentally wander into a WTF forum?

But really, great episode. I can understand why people might have some trepidation towards musical guests, but all the ones I remember seem to dive in and participate, even if they can be a little stand-offish at times. And you know what? I think that's great. They're getting outside of their zone and having a go and showing they really buy into what CBB! is all about. We can all only be so lucky.

  11. Yep. It's not like there are comedians whose whole act is about smoking weed.

    *cough*DougBenson*cough*

As for being friends with Raj, meh, I've had friends who do a lot and I hang out with them just fine. Hell, I don't drink, which in Canada is like being Amish, and I get along wth anyone.

Yep. I never understood the friends with someone argument. I've been friends with folks who imbibe in various ways, and yet somehow, I've managed it myself. You could make the same argument for anything from art to sports to music to movies to food. Just because a friend enjoys something doesn't mean you have to enjoy it as well.

  12. Hey, when it comes to talking about not doing drugs, even once is one time too many. Zero tolerance! Just say NO to talking about not doing drugs. Also, I thought he mentioned it twice, but I am wrong a whole lot.

Don't worry. Maybe Jenny Slate will be back soon to talk about how she smokes weed. Did you know she smokes weed? She should talk about it more just to remind people in case they've forgotten.
