  1. She did a made-for-Showtime movie pre-Twilight based off a book I LOVEEE called "Speak" that she's genuinely amazing in with Steve Zahn. You wouldn't think reading those two names together would prove for quality but it's this gorgeous little indie movie about a teenage girl dealing with the aftermath of being raped and it's beautifully told. Zahn plays her art teacher that helps her find her outlet to express all of her feelings.
  2. The fight is in the last book but it's also a Non-Fight Fight. Meaning Alice sees how it went down and shows Michael Sheen and you think while reading it that it's actually happening but then lmao nah. I've mentioned before that when these came out I was the EXACT age they were intended for. I was 15 when Twilight was first released so my friends and I ate it The. Fuck. Up. But it wasn't until Breaking Dawn came out when we were all 18 that we finally realized there was something wrong with the series. Looking back on it now, especially now that the movies are out, it's incredibly toxic, and I would say that I disagree with Cameron that New Moon improves on the toxicity, because the amount of times she puts herself near death for a man really is a terrifying message for 16 year old girls to be reading/seeing. But honestly I tried to re-read the books to see if I was still right that they were a good read, and no... they weren't. I couldn't make it through the first chapter again after having the veil pulled from my head lol. This is a terrible story LOL.
  3. And more importantly: Never getting laid
  4. Oh SNAP! You C&O'd my C&O while we are in the C&O!
  5. I have to C&O your post real quick because that Freaky Friday is iconic for my generation and it was most definitely Jamie Lee Curtis.
  6. My dad died while in high school and about 3-4 months later (I went through a big haze the semester following and can't keep track of what happened when) I was really depressed and a friend asked what was wrong and I obviously replied, "I'm just really sad about my dad," and she said, "Hasn't it been long enough?" (I now can't even remember the exact quote but I definitely remember thinking "she's right I should shut up about it." IT WAS ONLY 3-4 MONTHS LATER.) Your son has way better friends lol.

    All the President’s Men

I agree with you up to a point. I did see Spotlight first and this absolutely had me wanting to rewatch it, because I could see the influence this movie had on those creators, however I would think that they both could stand the test of time and live on the AFI in harmony with one another. I know that we have obvious limited space, but if we can have a million Scorsese or Spielberg films, then I think having both All The President's Men and Spotlight can be possible.
  8. I would love for Cam to read this book only now and see how he feels.

    Us *SPOILERS*

And here's the official discussion thread for all things "Us." Including those ginormous spoilers that left many of us with more questions than answers. Please try not to spoil other movies within a month of being out in theaters as someone might have seen "Us," but not "Captain Marvel." Also please respect everyone's opinions on the movie! Have at it and let's hope you don't piss off your tether in the process!

Musical Mondays Week 63 A Star is Born (1937)

My mom told me she caught it on TCM recently and said she fell asleep at some point cause she was too bored.

    Us *SPOILERS*

My theater laughed a lot! I laughed at that line too! There were a couple of points where people even laughed (like when Elizabeth Moss's tether was reacting to seeing her husband die) that I actually was like lord this isn't funny to me cause it's like making me really uncomfortable. But I think the biggest laughs were for Tim because his slapstick was really on point and that NWA drop when Elizabeth tried to ask Alexa to call the police. I was totally expecting The Police to then play but NWA's "Fuck The Police" was even better and our theater lost it.

    Captain Marvel *SPOILERS*

Here's our official discussion thread for Captain Marvel! This is open to all things related to this movie, including spoilers! We can also go into our theories of how she'll be involved with Endgame, and discuss the most recent trailer that came out now that they can have the one and only Carol Danvers featured. The only rule is to please not spoiler any other movies that are within a month old of being in theaters. Actually the other rule is to be respectful of everyone's opinions on the movie, but that should go unsaid lol.

    Us *SPOILERS*

Man, I could've sworn she just said they were created by "someone" so it was like an understood thing in this world whoever that "someone" was was supposed to be The Creator or whatever. Almost like all of Earth was supposed to be this experiment from the point of creation, and it automatically didn't work but wasn't fully abandoned. Guess I just need to see it again

    Captain Marvel *SPOILERS*

I was the opposite! I came to Sex Criminals via my love for his Hawkeye run! Also I have to thank him for then introducing me to his wife Kelly Sue DeConnick who wrote Captain Marvel's run at the same time which is what made me fall in love with her and was the big basis for this movie! You can even see Kelly Sue in the subway scene when Carol gets off the train and walks by a lot of people that are like, "Uhhh," and there's this woman with a flash of bright cherry red hair and I remember thinking, "Goodness that looks like Kelly Su- HOLY SHIT THAT'S KELLY SUE!"

Musical Mondays Week 63 A Star is Born (1937)

I'm not gonna lie.... all of my memory except for that final scene at sunrise is in b&w but that can't be possible if I remember her green dress and those red and oranges at the end...

Musical Mondays Week 63 A Star is Born (1937)

Oh I thought it was always in color. My Amazon trivia said that it was the very first color movie to be nominated for Best Picture.

    Captain Marvel *SPOILERS*

I can't comment on the details tbh, but I do remember them being like lol no Terrence Howard. A post-Avengers prequel movie set in Budapest with Black Widow and Hawkeye would have literally been the PERFECT opportunity to set those two characters up for something solo down the line, and with the amount of fanfic I read about said setting I am deep into the Clintasha ship hole lmao. Also, doing that could have possibly set up an amazing Matt Fraction written Netflix mini-series about Clint recovering from the brainwashing in his apartment in Brooklyn and then having to fight the Russian mafia because he's a good person at heart that refuses to see them fuck over everyone that lives in his building. (Can you tell I'm ignoring that dumb family Whedon pointlessly threw in lol.)

Musical Mondays Week 63 A Star is Born (1937)

Oh also true story: I got THIS FUCKING CLOSE to having Bradley Cooper sign my Guardians of the Galaxy poster because I snuck into the American Sniper premiere (it was held here because the real family is from here) and he fuckin stopped right at the girl beside me and then left and I was like "Bradley!" and he turned around and said sorry that he really had to go and I swear y'all those eyes struck me right in the soul that's how blue they actually are.

Musical Mondays Week 63 A Star is Born (1937)

I think it depends on the people doing the spotting to be honest. Also I'm a terrible person to have this conversation with because my college roommate and her now husband would call me the IMDB robot when we would watch movies together because I can recognize everyone and tell you what it is I recognize them from. Then last night I went to my mom's to watch the NCAA final (so mad) and I heard a story I had never heard before where I found out that my dad recognized Victor Wong in a restaurant here in Dallas out of nowhere and he was so delighted by it that they got to sit down with him and have a really lovely conversation. Apparently it's a genetic thing that has now caused me to be able to spot anyone. I've also once spotted our very own Paul Scheer on the streets of Austin just as I happened to walk by him once in 2010, and that was before this podcast! Point being, I could probably spot Eddie Vedder in a bar and I would probably be that person to pick out Jackson Maine as well lmao.
