    Musical Mondays Week 55 Rockula

SAME! I didn't get that at all! I mean I didn't get the damn music video until the legit showed the tv and the fact that it was a music video cause the whole time I was like why are these people just walking around with these homeless children?! But this does bring me to another point too - so he actually sees scenes from the music video in that weird dream he had where he was watching her perform but then the pirate swooped in to kiss her and now I'm wondering, does he see the future?

So I thought of something I watched within the last couple of years where someone got locked in the mirrorverse but it was literally only what the mirror could see in that one room. They tried to get out the door but couldn't because the door in the real world was closed, therefore there was nothing to open up to in the mirrorverse. Is that the same for Mirror!Ralph? Is he truly relegated to only rooms that have mirrors? And if that's the case WHERE THE FUCK DO ALL THOSE GIRLS COME FROM?

Like the mirror version truly seemed to be living his best life in that mirrorverse so I don't even know what his problem was.

I only mention my cousin because I admittedly have not seen the film, but I trust those around me that are also LGBTQ+ that took issues with this. Bi-erasure is very real and happens so much in such micro-agressive ways that completely change the way I look at things. Like for example, the way Orange is the New Black completely refuses to even utter that term (in one episode Piper's mom asks her if she's "a lesbian" now and Piper responds "why do I have to use a term?") On one hand that is a valid question that she asked but on the other HEY FUCKERS BISEXUALITY FUCKING EXISTS AND THAT IS WHAT SHE IS. It's very disappointing when you actually get very excited to see your own bicon portrayed in film and then you find out his entire self identification gets pushed out the window. (This also leads me to not getting my hopes up for Elton's biopic coming out cause he also said he was bisexual but I highly doubt they'll include that anywhere.)

Oh I forgot another question - is this a world where he was like born a vampire? They make it seem like he never actually lived a life as a human and since that woman was his mother are we to assume she gave birth to a vampire baby a la Twilight? Or was she the one who turned him and he was a full adult man who still never got laid in the 16th century (yeah right) and she wanted a child so he would just do, and so her possession of him is more of a maker's possession rather than mother's?

My cousin told me they literally have lines where he says, "I'm bisexual," to which he is met with, "No you're not, you're gay," to which he then says, "Oh okay." That's bierasure. Gay men have in fact married women before so literally their entire thing is saying he was never actually attracted to Mary Allen, he just married her because he was supposed to and then he realized he was gay. I mean that's literally what I've been hearing people say about him after seeing this movie. There have even been articles written about how long they focus on his marriage to Mary Allen that they are trying to "straightwash" him. It's fucking ridiculous. So no offense but don't try and tell a bisexual person that they aren't erasing his bisexuality. Even with a PG-13 rating you don't have to tell a man that says he is bisexual that he actually isn't.

    Musical Mondays Week 55 Rockula

Okay so here are my questions Mirror dude said he was trapped at one point and that was when he made the comment that everything was backwards, but like WHO IS HE THEN? Did Ralph have a twin that got trapped in the mirror zone? Was that the inner version of him that could actually get laid and seal the deal with Mona and his mother pulled it out of him? Was there actually no pirate ever? Was that always a thing set up by his mom and she's just convinced lots of men to become murderers over Mona? Why did he switch genres after one show? And why did Bo Diddley even allow him to do Rapula? That seems like so many bad things in one setting. Also I fast forwarded through that whole performance because it was embarrassing from the get go. Final question - why? Just... why?

Eh, I disagree with you that all those things you mentioned weren't also on the nose. That's what I loved about his concept, he took all of these things and took them to the extreme.

I refused to see Bohemian Rhapsody the minute my cousin told me they erased his bisexuality, and then I found out that Bryan Singer is still credited as the movie's director and that him being fired literally had nothing to do with the fact that everyone in Hollywood knows he's a sexual predator then I was hardcore out.
  12. I'm officially counting this one as seen now that I watched that. It was definitely probably just as hard to watch as the full thing.

I honestly think it was a statement on the way black people were referred to when they were slaves. We talked a lot about it in my photo history class when I was in college because even photographers used their craft for racism in those days to "prove" that black people were animals built for work. The minute all that shit went down I was like what the fuuuuck and then suddenly it hit me and I was like fuck this is actually brilliant.

Completely agree, and I'm just as angry this year that he'll be looked over again because his performance in Leave No Trace is fucking STELLAR!

I saw Sorry to Bother You in the last week of the year and it blew my god damn mind. I was so not expecting it to go in the way that it did and I legit think Boots might be a fucking genius.

That's not entirely true about IMDB. They state the year for Cabin in the Woods as 2011 because it technically premiered at the Butt-Numb-A-Thon, which has nothing to do with it's production dates at all. Now when things haven't been released and enter release hell, then they do become tricky, but once they are out for the world they get solidified just as everything else. Veronika Decides to Die is the better example of this. It went to Cannes in 2009 but sat in release date hell in the US for 6 years before finally hitting our country in 2015. It was released periodically in different international spots throughout that time, but since US is the country of origin how can we determine what that true release date is?
  18. Ah shit you're right Cameron. I miscounted again and could've sworn if we started this Monday we would be back on track. We can blame this all on me since I forgot days were a thing during the Christmas break lol.

I typically follow Academy regulations. If it gets a true theatrical release in the US in that year (whether it be limited or not) then I count it. Obviously I'm not AS strict as the Academy because I do count internet releases as well, but basically if I can see it then I'll count it. If it's at Sundance in 2017 but doesn't get released till January 2018 then there's no way I would've been able to see it in 2017 and that seems really weird to consider that it's release date. The only exceptions I've ever done are when I used to go to the Dallas International Film Festival a few years in a row. There were movies I got to see that weren't being released until the next year but I didn't want to sit on them as my favorites of the year since I *did* get to see them. I've gotten into arguments with people at work over this because we are trying to figure out what is considering the ORD (original release date) for a lot of movies in our system. One guy says whatever the first date listed on IMDB is since that's what the site will attribute to it, but I say what the date of theatrical (or internet/tv) release in it's country of origin. Basically - maybe we'll never truly figure this one out.
  20. That could work! Cameron should be our deciding factor on whether we should do that, cause I truly would bet money on the fact that the 11th will be a mini-sode.

First Reformed's 2017 date is only cause of festival runs, which I never count in my considerations of when a movie is released because that's not usually a general audience available viewing. Death of Stalin did have international openings in 2017 but couldn't be viewed in the US at all until 2018 and so I think that one counts as a 2018 as well.
  22. Oh yeah I knew this Friday would be a rebroadcast, but I'm not sure if they are going to jump into a mini-sode on the 11th or a full blown episode. I can only assume a mini since they went straight from a full episode to two rebroadcasts.
  23. We're still gonna hold off until we figure out what the next episode will be right? I just wanna make sure so I don't start talking about this piece of art too soon.

This is what I've heard about it, but when I saw it on your list I was like well either he truly didn't see more 2018 films or having kids changes the how you view some movies lol.

I'm very curious - did you actually enjoy The Grinch or did you truly only see 10 new movies this year and so it had to make the list by default lol.
