  1. I'm so sorry to hear this, gigi! My condolences!
  2. I know Paul said that the next two weeks would be repeat episodes when Holiday in Handcuffs was posted (December 21st) which leads me to believe that the 11th will be the first new episode, and should be a mini-sode, but I'm not 100% positive about this at all lol.

    HDTGM Classics Gigli

I made sure to put my cousin in my calendar for the 11th (he legit made me do it in front of him) so I can't cancel on him but I really want to watch this movie lol.
  4. I tried to perm my hair too and it ended just as badly
  5. Omg y'all I am SO SORRY! I spent the holidays completely unplugged (it was honestly a really nice break) and totally spaced that Monday came and went and I wasn't in the middle of a weekend. I am totally cool with pausing this until January, and Cameron if you are up for it you are more than welcome to take your place back!

    Episode 203.5 - Minisode 203.5

Paul, I have a bone to pick with you. I'm behind on my podcasts and so I just listened to this today, and I have had a HDTGM fantasy movie league going THIS WHOLE TIME! Since the last league got deleted I started one to keep it going and now all of a sudden I get zero recognition for keeping that shit alive!? How dare you, sir! Also I wish this had been mentioned in this episode description and I would've joined your league when this season started and I wouldn't be starting on a damn handicap because now it'll never count my first two weeks of this season since I wasn't in the league!

    Episode 203.5 - Minisode 203.5

She was on Maltin On Movies a couple of months ago and it really opened my eyes to what Twilight could've been, and how much she actually saved it from worse. She mentions that after Thirteen had all of this indie cred people were just handing her scripts and they were all TERRIBLE including this script written based off Twilight, however there were things within it that interested her and so she did her own research and read the book and found that this script had wildly differed from the source so much that it was barely the same story anymore. For example - she said that at the very end of the movie Bella ends up in Florida on a Skeedoo racing away from the FBI. It was only because Hardwicke actually cared about the story rather than Hollywood blockbuster shit that we even got something as good as this is, and then she went on to say how much more she wanted to do but the studio had such little faith in her and in this movie that they continuously TOOK MONEY AWAY from her budget so she had to cut a lot of stuff out that she wanted in. Also, she did talk about being labeled difficult and she said she knows exactly why it happened, and it was because she had this scene she really cared about getting correct (I think it was the baseball scene?) and there was something she was trying to get done but the studio people were being such dicks about it and no one was listening to her that she just broke down for about 30 seconds behind a tree and cried for like literally a tiny bit and then composed herself and went back to work. After that she knew the studio looked down on her even more and suddenly she became a difficult emotional woman.
  8. I'm not sure if it holds up for someone that has never seen it before, because it was definitely one of those I saw as a kid and just held onto for my whole life. If anything the costumes are absolutely perfect lol. But I also don't totally want to fall into other adaptations while we are specifically talking about a musical, because neither Ever After nor 2015's Cinderella actually have any musical elements to them. I wonder if this story flourishes more once you take out that aspect to it. Once you take the actual meat of the story more seriously then you truly understand the meaning behind everything. Then again the musical elements really do highlight the magic and it becomes a lot more fun.
  9. In terms of face blindness, I think that we're supposed to suspect that truly the life of a peasant leaves you so dirty that if you were to wash it all away to attend a ball you would truly look like a different person. But, of course, this is Hollywood and they're not going to rub mud all over Brandy's face. I definitely agree that the least they could've done is narrowed the search down to a black woman lol. However, I'll disagree about the stepmother and step sisters needing some kind of big punishment. I mean, yes in a perfect world and since this is a fairytale that's what we all want and expect for people that are straight up abusing this girl, however it's not real life. What I love about the ending of the newest adaptation with Lily James and Cate Blanchett is at the very end the stepmother is still trying to stick in one last terrible note into Cinderella's mind as she leaves with the prince, but she just turns and tells her that she forgives her and then she leaves. You see Cate Blanchett play that moment perfectly as she sinks down onto the stairs and it hits her that she's the miserable one and Cinderella is going to get her happily ever after. That is the punishment and that is the only thing people in real life can really do. They move on and live their best lives knowing that the abusers will never be happy. On the other hand, another fave adaptation of mine - Ever After - shows the stepmother and the actual terrible sister getting sent as peasants to work in America and apparently "The New World" is truly seen as the worst possible outcome for someone of nobility in France lol. Loved that moment too.

    Episode 203.5 - Minisode 203.5

Oh yeah Nicole blew the lid on this on her podcast cause she said the professional baker gets at least 4 hours to make the shit and then they give the contestants 90 minutes so it's definitely a set up for failure. The funniest parts to me though are the ones who don't even try to make the cake good (SAL!). Like even if the decorations are terrible and funny, at least the cake should taste good lol.
  11. Lol it was the 3rd! I'm exactly a year older than you!
  12. Happy Birthday Gigi!!! I didn't know you were a fellow Sag!

    Episode 203.5 - Minisode 203.5

I apologize for letting you all down because I definitely binged the entire Nailed It Holiday episodes on day one. Jason's episode was so funny I was crying (as hard as Rob was) and watched it again with a friend later lol. Jason, now you HAVE to do Nicole's podcast. The people need to know why you won't date her.
  14. I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! This is absolutely my childhood in a nutshell. Every girl I knew in school watched this and I'm pretty sure we watched it every year in middle school choir, and then once in high school choir for nostalgia. What I love is that there's literally no questioning about the racial choices of which actors play which role. I think I do remember questioning how Bernadette could have two birth daughters of different races but then just shrugged and accepted it because THIS MOVIE IS FUCKING GREAT! I think any problems anyone could actually have with this movie stem back to the actual Cinderella story itself rather than something this movie actively did. It's a great movie y'all, and if it weren't for how much I actually genuinely loved the newest live action remake this might have been my top of all the adaptations.

Episode 203 - Perfect Stranger: LIVE!

At the mention of Belladonna, my ears really perked up. Since I am a 90s kid who was obsessed with being a witch I of course immediately recognized this as the (first) cause of Jimmy Angelov's death in the 1997 classic Practical Magic. Nicole Kidman puts a drop of this into his drink every night so that she "can get some sleep" because he refuses to ever let them rest. Once he becomes fully abusive and threatens to kill her, Sandra Bullock drops a whole bunch into a bottle of tequila that he is drinking and it kills him. They certainly didn't show the symptoms that KumiteCourtney mentioned earlier either, but I would've said he had the mad as a hatter classification lol. I thought that this was where Paul was going when he mentioned this fact but it appears I am strangely alone in my remembrance of this perfect movie.

    Musical Mondays Week 54 Preview - gigi-tastic's 1st pick

@Cameron H. I am so so sorry for your loss, my friend. You know my message box is always open if you need someone else in the dead dad club to be a sounding board for any kind of grief! Much love to your family! @gigi-tastic We are on the same wavelength here and this movie is iconic and I almost watched it on my own literally a couple of weeks ago before I realized it was like 2 am and I had work in the morning lol.

Episode 203 - Perfect Stranger: LIVE!

A comment on whether or not brands expect you to brandish all their shit in your company - I am not in the Advertising field but I did work for a well known commercial photographer here in Dallas for a bit after college. He told me that once he was photographing a lot of Pepsi stuff for a new ad campaign they were building, and apparently they had forgotten to fill their fridge with Pepsi products and had a lot of Dr Pepper in there instead and let's just say Pepsi was extremely unhappy. After that he said his studio always makes sure they have enough of the actual brand on site to appease the clients. So yeah, if they were photographing Reebok then he definitely wouldn't allow anyone in the studio to wear anything from Nike.

Musical Mondays Week 53 Florence Foster Jenkins

I'm sorry that I've completely lost all ability to join in on these conversations, y'all. Apparently getting myself to pay attention to anything after work is near impossible.

    Episode 202.5 - Minisode 202.5

So yesterday was my birthday (I'll take your belated wishes in the form of cash), and since everyone here is also big on music and playlists I wanted to share my annual birthday list that encompasses the last year of my life, which now at 29 I will start a new one. You can listen here

    Swordfish recording...

Some do and other don't. It kinda depends on if the guest is promoting something specific, or if they're trying to save the live ones for when any of the three are out of town. I know Paul mentioned in a mini-sode that he was going to Japan this month so I'm thinking we're going to get a lot of the banked live eps soon.
  25. Oh yesssss! I've been wanting to see this to really test if Meryl is truly perfect for every role lol.
