  1. Finally saw this. It had actual potential to be cool but then they just set up so much shit with not a lot of pay off.

It's not the craziest Nic Cage film out there but I am determined to get the gang to do every single Nic Cage film. (Okay maybe not the ones like Raising Arizona or Moonstruck.)

  2. Here's the list of movies in the Fast and Furious franchise:

    The Fast and the Furious

    2 Fast 2 Furious

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

    Fast & Furious

    Fast Five

    Fast & Furious 6

    Furious 7

My problem with the titles is that they don't follow any formula. Words from the title of the first movie are randomly inserted and omitted. Numbers are sometimes figures, sometimes words. Just pick a lane! And taken as a whole the titles look like rejected bank passwords.

Oh, there is something I do like in Fast Five. The heat between Elena and Hobbs, generated almost entirely by Elena's worshipful doe-eyes. She's totally down for Hobbs picking her tiny body up and having his big muscly way with her. I was disappointed that she ended up being a beard for Dom. I just looked up Elsa Pataky, the actress who plays Elena, she's married to Thor. Haha.

Wasn't the very first 6 title going to be "Furious 6"? Or did I just have a fever dream about that?

  3. I genuinely can't remember how I found out about the podcast now and it kind of bums me out...

I was a late bloomer with it as well but I started from the very beginning and the newest episode out was Winter's Tale hahaha.

(I am thinking that there is a possibility that June and Casey were on the Nerdist podcast to promote Ass Backwards and that's how I found out??? That or Matt Mira talked about it because I know he is a big fan of the show as well.)

There also was the statue of liberty's head in the last one. Unless that was knocked off by a shark?

As far as I remember (which isn't much because I immediately block this shit out of my mind) the last two showed a little bit more weather phenomenon than this one for sure. But I can't remember either if the head came off because of the actual tornado or the sharks hitting it. Except for the love of all that is holy it wouldn't snow during a tornado. Hail, but never snow. That's not how that works.

My weather issues all really are with this film solely because shit seems to happen without any weather changing now and I thought that was the whole point of the stupid films.

  5. Taylorannephoto wrote a really good conversation starter about this on the last page. It's a pretty good read.

The one thing I would add to that, though, is that the tornado picked up the fucking Washington Monument and spiked it into the White House. And yet, as tayloranne pointed out, not a single person acts like it's even remotely windy outside.

    Thanks FisterRoboto!

You are so right I almost forgot about the Monument! That is the only time we actually see the tornado do any kind of real destruction in the whole movie and that makes the ability to run around during the storm even more perplexing!

  6. I was just gonna let this all go after mentioning how much I genuinely care about tornado science since... seriously who actually wanted to make anything about actual tornadoes in this movie? Especially after Scott started to talk about the physics of space and then caught himself because why even go into that with this movie. But I feel like if they had tried to do some accuracies when it comes to the weather they could have had an actual cool fucking movie. (Maybe cool is an exaggeration.)

So my #1 problem when it comes to the logistics of the weather is that they completely threw out from the get go the fact that if you are outside during a tornado that is strong enough to pick up multiple sharks then you are not going to be able to stand in the storm and fight said sharks. It made me so mad to watch Nova and Fin and whatever the fuck Frankie Muniz's character was named stand in the middle of some tornado and fight these stupid sharks. It never even looked like anything more than just the fog that hits the bay area in the morning hours. So are they throwing out the idea of tornadoes striking causing the sharks to attack? Because they certainly showed those horrible CGI storms around the shuttle take off later. (Which how the fuck were they able to take off at all with 10 tornadoes surrounding them?)

I made some assumptions about the scale of the rotations because of what they presented in the movie. So in DC the fact that the tornado was able to throw sharks with such ferocity made me think that was an EF5 storm. However, the only thing that ever destroys the buildings is the actual sharks and not the tornado itself. An EF5 storm can rip buildings from their foundation and destroy skyscrapers! So show it! And show me people being sucked into the storm! Even throw in a shark eating them once they became part of the rotation!

I'm not even sure if they ever explained exactly how tornadoes popped up on the western and eastern coasts (they probably did in the first two movies but I care so little about them that I forgot), but as a Texan who has been in the middle of two storms and has had to at least hide for many more (and still is fascinated as shit by them) I find it ridiculous that they completely abandoned the "nado" part of their title.

  7. Okay only two things I felt that they should have mentioned that I now remember

    1. Mark McGrath and Ann Coulter surfing down the stairs on paintings of old presidents. Those would not have held their weight no matter the situation and definitely shouldn't have blocked them from the sharks that just destroyed buildings.

    2. The incredibly long cut scene of Fin walking to the shuttle. Every time I thought they would end it they just showed him in another hallway. Unbelievable.

  8. Thanks so much for this. It made my day and put me in an infinitely better mood.

They must have needed that extra umph in Sharknado 3. They've only been turning it up to 10 the past two movies.

You are so welcome. And I think this is just how I'm going to explain the brilliance behind Sharknado 3 from now on.

Others: "Why did you need another one? Those went to 10 already."

Me: "But this one goes to 11."

  9.

There was a movie from one of the guys involved with the "Saw" movies about a demon coming to earth on 11-11-11, called "11-11-11." It was released on that day, meaning that if you went to the movie literally the day after it came out, you were seeing a movie about an event that could happen on a day that had already passed by.

Oh man I saw that movie when they were still calling it "11-11-11: The Prophecy" and I keep getting it confused with this other 11-11-11 movie that came out straight to video. Both probably horrible but holy Jesus Christ that first one was some epic awfulness.

They should do Chun Li though cause I still need to hear June figure out what a Street Fighter is.

  10. I think I'm one of the rare few that actually enjoyed this one more than the other two. And I hated the other two. Personally what I liked about this one was that it was self-aware. They took the ridiculousness and turned it to 11 while still thinking people gave a shit about those characters.

Okay let me be completely honest here I may not have liked it so much if it hadn't been for the motherfuckin' sharks in space!

Also yes, Cameron's signature is A+
