EPISODE 119 - Maximum Overdrive: LIVE!

I don't know much about coding or HTML but there is a nifty little button at the top of the posting box that looks like a polaroid. It's in the same area as the speech bubble and link buttons and directly under the text color (for me at least). Just click that and put in your URL! Et voila!

EPISODE 119 - Maximum Overdrive: LIVE!

Woah there are we gonna have to battle it out over Goblet of Fire now? I thought that was actually way better towards to the book over Order of the Phoenix. They cut out things that literally tied into the last book and were super important plot points! Not to mention that the flow of that movie was just not great. Harry Potter is an excellent example of the movies and books being separate and still amazing entities but even they are not without their adaptation bull shit. I just wish they had stuck to the way Ginny was in the books because she was amazing and powerful and what was shown on screen was boring. Also the fact that they made child!Lily's eyes brown in the very last movie still irks me to this day. But if I'm being 100% honest I would watch a 14 hour HP movie if that meant they could fit every single thing from the books.

I'm going to imagine that you're really PFT in disguise because it is my dream to get this response out of him.

EPISODE 119 - Maximum Overdrive: LIVE!

New York's hottest new club is TRUCKS! There is a giant green goblin mask, people licking other people's foreheads, and living knives (that's where a little person goes around and karate chops bread at each table). I almost didn't want to bring it back to him but we all know he is one of the worst culprits of this as of recently lol. Man I am ashamed of myself for never realizing Children of the Corn was his as well.

Holy shit I did not hear about the Matt Damon thing and just had to google it. Wow Matt Damon... wow. If there is ever a time when he should just be his character from Team America it's now. Anyway, Cameron I appreciate you super hard.

I must have been distracted by the AoU bitching and Star Wars gifs lol. Is it stupid in a HDTGM way? Basically will I be entertained by the awfulness of it if I decide to give it a read?

EPISODE 119 - Maximum Overdrive: LIVE!

Okay does anyone remember The Mangler? Stephen King's story about the laundry machine coming to life and killing people. Also never read the story but I saw the movie years ago and it made no sense to me. I remember my mom told me she read that story though and could not believe that it just ended with the machine getting up and literally walking down the street. I need to rewatch the movie just to see if they actually put that in there.

EPISODE 119 - Maximum Overdrive: LIVE!

Danny was also written in the image of his son so maybe he wrote Wendy with his wife in mind and he knew she was stronger than they portrayed her??? Idk I'm trying to find reason within it all lol. Also side-note but still related... the character of Delbert Grady was actually based on my uncle's former boss from when he was a teenager. He grew up in the town that the Stanley Hotel is in and apparently Stephen King told everyone that this guy was the craziest motherfucker he had ever met. My aunt said it was so true because he was waaay too proud of being the inspiration for a character that killed his wife and children in the story. (If anyone listens to Bizarre States they read this as part of their listener stories last week but I wasn't really comfortable with them saying my name with it). But they did say the dude made the best pancakes they've ever eaten. Clearly insanity is a great cooking ingredient. Kate Beaton is my hero and I applaud the use of this image. It's all so true about the SFC archetype and men writing them. Not to totally divert back to the AoU conversation from the mini-thread but I think that line of thinking was part of Whedon's downfall with that movie tbh.

EPISODE 119 - Maximum Overdrive: LIVE!

When it comes to The Shining and Wendy's portrayal I have issues with what seemed to happen in real life. Kubrick was notoriously horrible to Shelley Duvall and even physically abused her in order to produce the kind of hysterics that he wanted her to be in. I haven't read the book (actually I've only ever read Carrie and I loved it) but maybe when he was picturing the woman he was writing he wasn't picturing a woman who was in hysterics the entire time. The issue now with some men telling other men that they are being misogynistic (oh hey still looking at you Whedon) is that they aren't actually accounting for how many kinds of women there are in this world. If I was married to an alcoholic man that hit me and my child and then went bat shit crazy and tried to kill me I would be screaming and crying too. But there are women out there that would jump to action and grab their child with one hand and a knife with the other and kick the shit out of the guy! Neither is more accurate than the other. I do believe that back when it was made it was much easier to put a woman on film that seemed "weaker" and unable to fight for herself which is pretty awful, but looking back on it today it's hard to say that she still isn't a real life woman who acted in a very real way.

Road House 2: Last Call (2006)

Have you seen That Thing You Do? He was the asshole lead singer in it and that's literally the only movie I've ever seen him in. I'm really wishing I had gone to both Benson Interruptions when he did this in Texas but alas I was feeling ill and only went to Johnny Mnemonic (Nmemonic? Does anyone care?).

EPISODE 119 - Maximum Overdrive: LIVE!

So if there was no mention of UFOs or comets ever in the movie we could have explained everything by simply saying Emilio was hallucinating from dehydration and heat exhaustion and none of that really ever happened. Then the last scene could have just been him from everyone else's point of view and he is just ranting about living trucks and waving guns at everyone in the diner.

I really appreciate your apology! If you pay extra attention to these boards we do call them out for crossing the line when the do it (in most recent memory we called out Adam Pally for his really not okay Asian accent during the TMNT2 episode plus some members are uncomfortable with Jason's Sept. 11th comments). You can be raunchy and not "PC" and still not cross the line. It's just what the intent is behind it and how it's delivered.

EPISODE 119 - Maximum Overdrive: LIVE!

The difference being that we know none of the things that Jason or anyone else say are meant to harm others. They are presented as jokes and are not meant to be taken seriously. But your usage of the word added with your suggestion that the time it takes her to sleep with a man seems to somehow devalue her knowledge on a subject is pretty shitty, sir. It doesn't seem like you are joking if you genuinely think that whether or not she has sex with a man in anyway has anything to do with why she knows something over someone else.

EPISODE 119 - Maximum Overdrive: LIVE!

Okay so we've settled the sprinkler debate but what about the battery powered things vs electric things? The gang kept saying that everything was based on electricity but vehicles (at least not the ones in the movie) do not operate on electricity and neither does the walkman. Those are all battery/gas powered. So this all just makes the what gets controlled thing that much more confusing to me. Also my most important question of the week is who won the Star Wars gif battle in the mini-ep thread. I need to know for reasons...

    Lucy (2014)

I have to agree with Maximiliano. I love Scarlett sooo much and her portrayal of Lucy in the first half of the film was brilliant. But as she gained more and more knowledge she just became boring and flat. I think my problem with this film was that they never really set any rules up (at least in Limitless there were rules) and the more power she had the crazier things got. Yes there was the rule that once she reached 100% shit would hit the fan but it ended up not and nothing basically happens. But every time something is close to happening then she just magically waves her hands and everything is bueno again as she goes on her journey to Morgan Freeman. That's not really that fun to watch after the umpteenth time. The visual effects were nice to look but I was still let down.
