  1. This is not the Rosario Dawson/Kathryn Heigl thriller HDTGM did this past summer. This is the delightfully, insanely convoluted sci-fi noir that Ray Liotta and Linda Fiorentino did in 1996. I’’ve decided to make one movie suggestion per week and this is it! I’ve recommended it for HDTGM before and now it’s streaming on Hulu and well worth the price of subscription (honestly, I think Hulu has more interesting shows and movies than Netflix). I won’t try to summarize the plot. I’ll just link to the trailer. I will say it features Ray Liotta shooting up dead peoples’ memories like heroin. Here’s the preview: I’m hoping people will join me in watching and add their opinions. I’ll make another movie suggestion next Tuesday and am happy to have other people participate as well. Just wanted to try to get this thing rolling!
  2. I have mentioned this movie on Twitter, but I must repeat myself: THIS FILM IS FUCKING NUTS!! —21% on Rotten Tomatoes! —Ray Liotta acting his heart out! —Linda Fiorentino with nothing to do! The plot summary (taken from RT): ”This cross between a psychological thriller and an old fashioned murder mystery tells the story of a police pathologist who takes extreme measures to prove himself innocent of his wife's murder and to solve the puzzling massacre in a Seattle drug store. Dr. David Krane was formally charged with his wife murder, but tainted evidence got him an acquittal; it did not clear his name and as a result he lost his two daughters. His search for her killer begins when he is called to the drugstore scene where he finds a curled up matchbook, the exact same kind that was found near his wife. Soon afterward he learns of noted neurologist Dr. Martha Briggs experimentation with a new form of memory retrieval. She has discovered that memory resides in brain fluid and that if the fluid from one brain is mixed with a special formula and injected into the brain of another, that person will experience the memories of the other when a strong stimulus is administered. At least that is the theory. So far she has only worked with lab rats. But for the fact that the majority of the injected rodents die of heart failure, her experiments have been successful. Learning more about Briggs' work, Krane becomes determined to test it on himself using the stored brain fluid of his late wife.” I will stop there because I don’t want to spoil it and it just gets crazier. I have tickets to both of your Seattle shows and I will be heartbroken if you do not pick this film! It is the true definition of BONKERS. Here is the YouTube link to the trailer. I have no idea why they list it with Christopher McDonald as the actor—he has a rather small role. The trailer does an EXCELLENT job of conveying the tone of the movie.
  3. "Just out of prison, ex-con Tommy (Tim Allen) is ready for a fresh start in life. He moves in with his manipulative sister (Sigourney Weaver) and her husband and takes a job at a local burger joint. However, he finds that staying on the straight-and-narrow is not as easy as he thought. Gray (Ray Liotta), his former partner-in-crime, is trying to rope him into the latest scheme. And to complicate matters, Tommy is falling in love with his probation officer." This movie is insane, I saw it on Netflix a few years ago because of the all-star cast. But is wall to wall bonkers. First of all Tommy is in prison for video piracy... three years to be exact. This leads to his sister lying about him actually being in France to his family. The burger place he works at is pirate themed, of course, so peak comedy. But every 15 minutes or so, just long enough that you forgot it happened in the first place, Tommy has some sort of "imagination" or some other unexplained thing where there are essentially scooby doo level of special effects.
