This classic Mark Wahlberg, Lou Diamond Phillips, Christina Applegate vehicle is an ideal candidate for the How Did This Get Made treatment. It is hilariously bad, with all kinds of inexplicable writing, directing, and acting choices. It also has a reasonable amount of star power. Perhaps most importantly, despite how terrible it is, it's actually quite entertaining to watch.

The Big Hit is a perfect candidate for Paul, Jason, and June Diane to send up. Hell, even if they aren't going to do it, go see it anyways. It's amazing.

Yeah I own this movie and still don't know if this is meant to be a full on action/comedy or a spoof of action movies. It has over the top movie store employees, a giant gold movie display, and the trace buster buster which make it seem like a spoof, but then there are heavy action scenes. Either way, it's definitely made for this podcast.

This movie is definitely a comedy first action movie second and since it's genuinely funny I don't think it belongs here. It doesn't take its self seriously at all and has some really funny moments. Although the Whalberg love story is pretty ridiculous.

It is an enjoyable movie with some intentional, and some unintentional laughs. It definately isn't a total stinker. I think it falls into the category of a Crank 2. It's an enjoyable movie, but at the same time is so over-the-top ridiculous, it demands to be made fun of.

The Big Hit is basically Resevoir Dogs (guns and voilence) + The Three Stooges (silliness) + Twilight (teen love story)

This movie holds some nostalgia for me, so I am biased towards it for that reason, but I think there's plenty of crazy here for the gang to work with.

hah that is a great way to describe it. I think the nostalgia factor plus the fact I haven't seen it in years might make me a little biased because the more I think about it the more what the fuck moments I think of.

Everything bad about this movie is erased by Lou Diamond Phillips' performance. Mastery.

I couldn't see if this had been previously posted because the title is all 3-letter-words.

This movie tried so hard to be cool and failed miserably.

Plot holes. Tasteless humor. Lou Diamond Phillips. Enthusiastic masturbation.

Anyone? This one is on par with 'Cool as Ice' in my book.

(

that doesn't fully showcase how bad it is.)

One thing I remember is him being hounded by the video rental guy to return a movie..

I own and just recently watched this as I love how bad it is. It was released in the late 90s but it comes off as if it was made in the early 90s with the various references and settings, like the video store and the wannabe white guy. I can see Jason freaking out over Marky Mark's hair which goes from flat on his head to Rick Astley style pompador to Col. Guile from Street Fighter.

Oh I own it too. One of those random films I picked up and have for some reason. It has been a long while since I watched it though..

I really don't think I've seen it more than once but it's just always stuck in my head how bad it was.

Wasn't the black dude on the wall at the video store for renting the most porn? And he was always working out his hand, because that's how masturbation works - the stronger the better.

And I recall a scene where a Lincoln Towncar (?) chases Marky Mark for waaaay to too long, like that scene in Hot Rod.

I think they could rip this thing apart.

Yeah the guy was customer of the month in the adult section because he turned all his movies in on time I'm assuming. Though it would be odd to have your face plastered on a full size poster for EVERYONE in the store to see that you whack it CONSTANTLY.

I remember the video store itself being unbelievable. Was it too big, or clearly not a video store?

Too big for the small selection it had, though to be fair there were a lot of ma and pop video stores like that that were basically porn stores with some mainstream video rentals in the front. It was basically a way for them to have their business in a better part of town and still make money off of adult videos. There is still a store like this in Stockton, CA where I work that has DVDs where the most current movie is about 3 three years old, but once you go past the partition door it's just a porn store minus the sex toys and novelty items.

Something about the lack of novelties seems even more (literally) seedy.

I am still laughing about the one time that I went there. In front of the store was a truck parked with a kid sitting in it about 7-8 years old. Then as I'm walking in the store I see a guy coming out of the back area with a plastic bag that seemed to be holding 2-3 DVDs in it. He then gets into the truck and and drives away with a bag full of porn sitting between his son and himself. Talk about having your priorities straight.

The thing about this movie is that it's self-aware though. It's an action comedy, not an action movie taking itself seriously. I don't know if they could rip this apart for succeeding in being intentionally ridiculous.

I guess it would more of a commentary of what people thought was funny in the late 90's. Since it is 16 years old, the majority of the jokes would come off as campy and outdated, and the plot would seem pretty hacky (again, because of its age).

I think that the late 90s was a bad period in time in which people didn't know how to act. Some embraced the futuristic 2000s vibe, some were fearful of it, but most people swore that they were super cool "generation X-ers", and that will always be, at minimum, as funny as the disco years.

I don't know, I don't think it was that bad for what it set out to be.
