I remember hearing that Vincent Price's poem in Thriller was a rap when I was a kid. I think a lot of people's definition of rap is kinda racist. Far as I can tell this is how the logic goes in their minds:

music + black people = rap

I love the myth that "Rapture" is first ever rap song, since it NAME CHECKS Fab Five Freddy and Grandmaster Flash. Were those just two guys Debbie Harry knew, and then after this song came out they stole her idea for "rhyming over music"?
