RyanSz 3140 Posted September 8, 2013 Having just seen this on Friday, this is perfect for HDTGM. Now it's not as bad as Chronicles was, but this is leaps and bounds behind Pitch Black. There was a really great story in this movie, that was unfortunately sandwiched between two sub par ones. The first third of the movie is basically a sci-fi version of Cast Away with a space dog/wolf/thing and Vin Diesel, while the last part of the movie, which is what is promoted in all of the trailers, is just a not as exciting rehash of Pitch Black minus all the tension. Â The middle section of this movie is fantastic though with it concerning Riddick fighting bounty hunters. There was tension and great action, which made me want to see so much more of it, especially compared to the rest of the movie. The first part alone would make Jason go bananas, but June would lose her mind when it comes to Katee Sackhoff's boobs. For some reason, the makers of the movie couldn't decide on whether or not she was going to wear a pushup bra or just go natural. So for much of the movie, her chest changes size and not just a little bit, at certain points in the movie it looks like they did computer animation to give her porn star size breasts. Â That along with the fact that women are treated as holes to hold a cock in this movie, June would have a lot to go off on while Jason screamed at the top of his lungs about the insanity of this movie. 1 Share this post Link to post
Shannon 2953 Posted September 8, 2013 Oh good I was hoping someone would make this thread... Â I saw this yesterday and I actually BOOED at the very end. Â WORST. FEMALE. CHARACTER. EVER. Â If the writer's thought they needed a female character to keep them from being accused of sexism, they really shouldn't have bothered because "Dahl" was SO MUCH WORSE than having no girls at all. Â They establish quickly that she can kick ass, and that she's a lesbian because that's a good plot device to make women characters seem less scary or what fucking ever and sooo many lesbian jokes and THEN when Riddick is like "If I win I get to fuck her." and then some line about "only if she asks me real sweet like" AND THEN AT THE FUCKING END SHE'S STRADDLING HIS LAP AND GOES CAN I ASK YOU SOMETHING REAL SWEET LIKE AND I THREW UP MY HANDS AND WENT BOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Â FUCKING NO Â 6 Share this post Link to post
seanotron 2307 Posted September 8, 2013 Every trailer for this just screamed 'Pitch Black Redux'. Like they really wrote themselves in a corner with the Conan ending of Chronicles, so they just decided they'd make the first movie again. 1 Share this post Link to post
RyanSz 3140 Posted September 8, 2013 Which is basically what the whole third act is. Except these aliens are just aliens, they aren't hurt by light but they need water/mud in order to attack the main characters. Everything with Dahl was good up until the point where she decides not to be a lesbian any more just so she can get some Diesel dick. I'm not usually one to cry sexism in a movie but holy shit was this sexist. From the Necromonger whores who have about a 10 second full frontal vag shot, to the nameless female prisoner of the uber-bad mercenaries who was heavily implied to be a rape sow for the crew to Dahl who as I previously wrote had the always changing tit size. Â Now Shannon since you saw it as well, can you back up what I said about Dahl to prove to me that I'm not crazy? Because even when Katee Sackhoff is shown topless for a quick scene, she is much smaller than a scene later where she looks like Jenna Jameson at her bustiest as she fights off the main mercenary who tries to rape her as well. That was actually the most laughable scene afterwards as we find out she punches him again causing his nose to bleed, but the characters who walk into the room see a scene out of the Manson murders where blood is EVERYWHERE, and not just a little but puddles on the floor with drag stains and hand prints everywhere. Yet when they show the guy he just has a little trickle of blood coming from his nose. Share this post Link to post
PhillipMedoc 648 Posted September 10, 2013 Yeah, in 2013 with LGBT rights momentum cresting everywhere, we have a major motion picture telling us that lesbians just need the right man to fix their broken sexuality. Fuck you, Riddick, and whoever wrote this garbage. Â Incidentally, I've heard Pitch Black is a decent watch? Is that so? Like if I wanted a fun, mindless action movie. Share this post Link to post
RyanSz 3140 Posted September 10, 2013 Yeah it was pretty offensive how the character of Dahl was portrayed. From her name being just a way to call her "Doll" to how she basically is told by Riddick he's going to go "balls deep in her," it was shocking how blatant it all was. This was like how Riddick smell banged Thandie Newton in the last movie by saying he hasn't smelled beautiful in a while. As I wrote originally, this movies is just misogynistic and sets back women as a strong action character. Â Pitch Black is an excellent horror/action film. There is great character development and tension throughout the movie. The mechanic of remaining in the light to survive is well done because it is so simple. It was when Vin Diesel got the idea to make this huge world for his character that the movies started to slack content wise. Incidentally, the video games for the Riddick character are amazing not just for being a video game adaptation of a movie character, but as a video game in general. So if you are looking for a good experience concerning this character watch Pitch Black or get the games. They released them both together a couple years back on a single disc, and it's well worth the money. Share this post Link to post
seanotron 2307 Posted September 10, 2013 Â Incidentally, I've heard Pitch Black is a decent watch? Is that so? Like if I wanted a fun, mindless action movie. Â It is so. Good ensemble movie. And Riddick isn't really the main character. In fact, the lead is a woman who is apparently far better written than the female character from this movie. 2 Share this post Link to post

In fact, the lead is a woman who is apparently far better written than the female character from this movie. Which is the most bizarre thing since both movies were written by the same guy. The only difference is David Twohy didn't have the other two guys helping in writing the movie and you can definitely see the difference in quality and character development. It's straightforward and has it's two clearly established gimmicks. It's exactly a no brains grimey sci-fi action fest that's primary focus is to establish just how f'ing cool Riddick/Diesel is. Lot's of posing on Vin Diesel's part. I feel like it's one of those movies that is entirely the action cheese it is intended to be but manages it somewhat competently. Watch Chronicles immediately afterwards and you will be scratching your head to see any connection between the films. Â Riddick banks a strategy on a yet unrevealed menstruation from an unlikely character. With reveals like this in PB, it's impossible to not like this movie... Share this post Link to post
RyanSz 3140 Posted October 9, 2013 Chronicles seemed almost completely like Vin project to create this epic yarn for his character. It's sort of like how the recent Fast & Furious movies went from a group of street racers to guys being called upon by the government to stop international terrorists, except they REALLY rushed it here with Riddick. He went from being a awesome prisoner to all of a sudden he's fighting immeasurable alien forces for the fate of the universe, it was incredibly unrealistic even by sci-fi standards. I liked that Riddick went back to basics and made a simpler movie, but the problems in the first and third act completely ruin what could have been a great movie, if it was just about Riddick fighting these different groups of bounty hunters who have come to collect his head.
