Underground filmmaker Jeff Krulik joins Jake to discuss the 1986 documentary centered around the hard-rock fandom which occurred at the Capital Centre parking lot in Landover, Maryland before a Judas Priest concert called Heavy Metal Parking Lot. Jeff also explains how he went from selling cable door to door to eventually running a public access network, how he met with the King of Porn, and tells us about his new film, Led Zeppelin Played Here, about a Maryland youth center where Led Zeppelin supposedly performed on its first US tour. Cap Centre was such a hole. I have a ton of good memories of going (Yes - Union tour anyone?). But I think 15,000 people entered and exited though about 3 lanes so you were there for hours after the show was over. Might as well just hang out while you waited...

It's hard to pick a favorite person from Heavy Metal Parking Lot. Each drunkard has their personal charm and hilarity, like picking your favorite lush at your local bar. But I'd have to go with the 20 year old dating the 13 year old...classy.

Jeff Krulik came to Olympia for their film festival back in 2002-ish; in addition to showing Heavy Metal Parking Lot, he had Neil Diamond Parking Lot, Harry Potter Sidewalk, and Raver Bathroom -- all amazing. Go buy the dvd, there's a ton of extra stuff on it. This is Youtube before Youtube! Amazing.

 

The best part about that video is the guys calling punks fags and all the girls saying they wanna bang Rob Halford is that he was a closeted gay man at the time (hello, "Jawbreaker"?). And I love the security guard who is just shaking his damn head at these crazy heshers.
