Episode 004 — The Travel Bug with August Lindt

Recommended Posts

If anyone's not familiar with HR Giger, they should definitely listen to this Superego sketch:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPFTgY9cCGs

I love Giger's repeated calls to get back to the topic of cooking.

Good God, why I have never seen this before?!

And the first 12 minutes of the podcast are even better. I have to wait until tonight to listen to this, as i got to Giger's entrance and had to stop, since my office discouraged belly laughing. I can't wait for the Pope's entrance.

ADPP is hands down a distillation of the best parts of CBB.

I can't even handle this level of comedy. I feel like my ears are unworthy.

It felt like The Dead Authors Podcast in there

I feel like this must have been recorded before TDAP Chapter 31 (which was incredible, by the way), because otherwise Paul probably would have gone deeper on the Anne Frank talk. They also missed the joke that the 4/20 invasion of Amsterdam occurred on Hitler's birthday.

I'm glad we now have two data points showing that asking about the N word is a HUGE laughter trigger for PFT.

Plastic rules, nature drools.

This show is a masterclass in improv.

The bit on Blackfish was hysterical.

Such flawless, loose, awesome improv. I love how good natured August is, and how terrible the accents were, and how much delight they took in each others high spots. This was the best one since the first one. I had stupid grin on my face the whole walk home.

The talking trashcan riff between them was gold.

Neither Adams or Bush would have been president. Also no Nixon or Clinton.

You can't have a period without a president though. There are two ways I could see this going.

If a president dies prior to an election then the president would become who was really president during that time, because they would presumably hold powerful positions. It would probably go like this:

Washington

John Adams

John Quincy Adams

James K. Polk

Zachary Taylor

Millard Fillmore

Ulysses S. Grant

Grover Cleveland

Theodore Roosevelt

Woodrow Wilson

Calvin Coolidge

Herbert Hoover

Lyndon B. Johnson

Richard Nixon

Bill Clinton

Or if you'd rather utilize VP's to take over in the intermediate time between a death and the next election, it would go:

Washington

Adams

Thomas Jefferson

John Quincy Adams

John C. Calhoun

Zachary Taylor

Millard Fillmore

Ulysses S. Grant

Grover Cleveland

Theodore Roosevelt

Woodrow Wilson

Thomas R. Marshall

Calvin Coolidge

Charles G. Dawes

FDR

Harry S. Truman

Richard Nixon

Gerald Ford

Clinton

Fun facts:

- No presidents have died in May.

- The only two to have died in September were assassinated.

- 3 died on the 4th of July, two of which (Adams/Jefferson) signed the Declaration. The other was Monroe.

Edit: Fixed my idiocy.

In non-presidential talk, this was the best episode so far.

I almost spat out my water at Giger wishing that tongues had bones. Scarebags killed me too.

Great stuff.

Is this like those Snapple cap "facts"? Because it looks like Adams is the only one of those three who died on July 4th.

Come on Scott and Jeff, this has got to be picked up. What more do you need to hear than:

"What is a friend but an enemy with a smile?"

No, you're right. Massive error on my end. I typed in a word document, then cut and pasted.

I meant Adams and Jefferson died on the 4th, and signed the Declaration. Monroe is the other July 4th.

I really don't know what happened there. Anyone else smell burnt toast?

Oh, well that's still kind of amazing. Three of the first five presidents?

I died at

"Women" *H.R. Giger moans*

Also, I wonder if Pope Benny D. had any interaction with Bill Carter's child soldier program, and if he did, did he feel bad about it?

How about that callback to the Werner Herzog "two thumbs and not much else?" It made me grin. And of course, Andy Daly suicide, lol. I wonder if Jason Mantzoukas will show up in a later episode. Maybe in the Don Dimello podcast.

I think Marissa Wompler said she spent an afternoon with Don Dimello back in December, being mentored in the ways of Hollywood. If Jason, or unrelatedly, Eric "Gutterballs" Gutterman, appear in that episode as well, I think my brain will literally explode.

This is my first introduction to Giger, and dear god that might be the funniest character I've ever heard. I fucking love this episode and I'm going to share it with everyone I know. Thank you for making this show, Andy.

Pope: That black whale movie? Madea?...that goes to San Diego?

August: You're thinking of a different black whale movie...

Way too many ratzingers to possibly appreciate in this episode.

Full disclosure, I actually didn't really love August Lindt the first time on CBB. Holy crap, Werner Herzog (my favorite PFT character), Pope Benedict (my fav Besser), HR Giger? What an awesome show!!!!
