Episode 95.5 — Minisode 95.5

Recommended Posts

Anyone else notice that a good portion of the cast, especially at the "We still love you, Alan" party, and especially especially his mother, seemed to be dressed like Sylvanian Families?

I am also obsessed with the choice to film multiple close-up shots of unshaven lady-thighs during the sexy sex scene. I really hope this is brought up.

Right?! I mean to each their own, but such a bizarre choice...

The rhymes in the movie ad

Were so terribly bad.

The responsible flunky

Should be killed by the monkey.

I think the unshaven lady thigh close ups were nessecary in order to let us know that 1. Allan isn't averse to putting his mouth near anything hairy and 2. Even in his current medical state, Allan has strong neck muscles that give him the ablility to whip his mouth to and fro.

Good phrase for performing oral sex!

So that is what I saw? I thought maybe, somehow, some way, Allan's chest hair was creeping into the shot. I am not sure if this increases or decreases my enjoyment of the movie.

I've been rewatching the first season of Friday Night Light (so, spoiler alert, to anyone who has not seen it,) and I'm pretty sure that Lyla and Jason should have looked to that sex scene, noting the use of that hoist in particular, as a source of quad porn. Just saying, it's some pretty deeply erotic stuff.

To be fair, she probably wasn't EXPECTING to have a quadriplegic go down on her that day.

The science in this movie seemed a little sketchy. I think the premise was that injecting a girl's brain cells into the monkey's leg gave the monkey human intelligence and a psychic connection with a random human (Allan). Is that really a thing?

I was hoping for a post credit sequence in which the nurse's body was found in the trunk of the mother's car.

Why didn't the monkey ever throw her feces at anyone? What, was she too smart for that?

Not only that, but apparently anyone could mind meld with the monkey simply by injecting the syrum. Allan never took the syrum though. That was actually my biggest complaint with the movie, they just kinda half assed the explanation of all of that. Ella gets injected with random human brain cells, forms a telepathic link with allan as a result, but then Doug can get inside Ella's head by simply injecting the syrum into himself?

It would have been a nice irony if the case they were discussing in the law school class illustrated the legal principle that if you jog down the middle of the street with a bag of bricks strapped to your back, it is an assumed risk that estops you from bringing a negligence claim against the operator of any vehicle that strikes you.

Of course the science was completely bogus, but I think with a movie like this you kind of have to just go with everything relating to the premise. I was more annoyed by everything involving Geoffrey's lab and his relationship with Stephen Root(!); it just made no sense and had no basis in reality whatsoever.

Great point. That came out of nowhere, but Geoff expected it to happen as a logical result of his experiments. What? In comparison with that part, the rest of the science looked like an episode of Nova on PBS.

First of all, I thought it was the monkey's butt, but I guess that is on me.

What I thought while watching the movie was that the brain cells being injected were going to turn out from some mentally unstable person. In the scene where Geoffrey (or nerdy John Constantine, Hellblazer and Master of the Mystic Art of hard-boiled, self-narrated exposition) and Stephan Root, there is a throw away line that the brain cells are from college girl who had died. I seriously thought, "Oh, they are going to find out later that this girl was unhinged and dangerously obsessive," but nope, apparently not the case.

What bugged me is that it is clear that there is no one on the street behind him: he's jogging, the street is empty, he's jogging, and there's like a Cadillac driving slowly behind him, he's jogging, empty street, dog barks, a truck manifests out of nowhere and launches him twirling into the sky.

There was the bit in the movie where Allan says to Geoffrey "What have you done to us? To me?" or something to that effect, and I thought that somehow implied that Geoffrey did inject Allan as part of his experimenting? Or am I reaching too much here?

I do remember that scene, but I don't think we can assume that Geoffrey ever injected Allan. It would be too easy to explain that off in the movie to simply omit it as an occurance.

It was also a story thread that had no real payoff. Why did we even need Stephen Root's character at all?

From what I understand, the movie was putting forward that whatever ticking-time-bomb of a spinal cord abnormality he had magically allowed him to telepathically link with the monkey.

Yeah is that like a real thing? The conginital paralysis defect? (not the monkey telepathy, I know that's real) I should get myself checked out just in case. Also, if that were true, then Geoffrey would also need a spinal defect to monkey meld and not just an injection? I dunno lol.

I think he was there to establish that Geoffrey was in a time crunch and getting a bit desperate to produce results.

Good point! The movie was too long and that would be an easy way to lop off 5-10 minutes. I'd guess that the point was to illustrate that he was a rebel operating outside the accepted bounds of the scientific establishment...which probably could have been addressed in a few lines of dialogue between him and Allan.
