Recommended Posts

The theme for Largo next month is Bad Sequels. Anyone care to guess what the two films will be?

Have the movies for these shows been announced yet? I feel like for previous shows they've been announced a lot earlier so I don't know if I missed an episode or something.

I believe the 10PM is View to a Kill. The 8PM is still unannounced.

Are you serious? A View to a Kill awesome - my second favorite Bond film!

Why not Tomorrow Never Dies or Die Another Day?

Hey, I don't disagree. As long as the don't touch anything with Timothy Dalton or George Lazenby, I'm cool.

I think mostly it will be because of stuff like this (as pulled from imdb):

"Roger Moore said that he decided to end his run as James Bond when he realized that Tanya Roberts's mother was younger than he was."

Yeah, that's weird. There are so many bad sequels out there to choose from. I would have suggested, with Jurassic World coming up, either The Lost World or Jurassic Park 3. Both are absolutely dreadful.

Xanadu was actually a spiritual sequel to the 1947 film Cover Girl, which also starred Gene Kelly where in both movies, his character's name is Danny McGuire.

There really isn't anything to talk about with Lost World though, as it's just a rehash of the first one, but they remembered to bring guns. The T-Rex rampage through San Diego was what I'd hoped more of the movie would be. Not really caring much about about Jurassic Park in the first place, I remembered liking JP3 at the time because it was more action-packed and pretty short, but I'll be damned if I can remember more than 3 scenes from it.

View To A Kill has got to be a joint Podcast with James Bonding. Scheer was due to be on that podcast, with Chris Hardwick - so doubling up with HDTGM seems like perfect syncronicity to me.

In other news, ITV in the UK showed this tonight, so I've just watched it, and aside from Tanya Roberts insessent squealing and Grace Jones being generally terrible. I really like it. Walken is barking mad in this movie.

There are at least five worse Bond movies that they could have done instead of A View to A Kill.

Tomorrow Never Dies, Die Another Day, The World is Not Enough and Quantum of Solace are all much worse and crazier than View to a Kill IMO.

Die Another Day really is so bad that it is mind blowing and I think it would be a better movie to do on this particular show. Can't stress that enough. Bond para-surfs. Invisible car. Ice Palace. Halle Berry is very, very bad in this movie and it's only a couple of years before she did Catwoman!

Starting with Casino Royale, I have a tradition where I re-watch Die Another Die before every new Bond movie. This way, comparitively, I am less disappointed. Although with Skyfall (and definitely Quantum) it was really close.

Funny, I would have said they would have more to say about The Lost World, because it is really just a collection of scenes, that may be visually interesting, but ultimately make no sense. It expects you to just buy all the logic leaps (a T-Rex slipping out of its hold, dismembering people in tiny rooms, and then somehow locking itself back up), convenient storytelling ( "Oh you're a gymnast? Can't see how that will ever come back up in a totally lame way..." ), and idiotic character decisions (Bring a hurt baby T-Rex back to our HQ on the edge of a cliff? What could possibly go wrong?).

I remember watching it when I was younger and liking it the best of all three, but now I think it holds up the worst.

Die Another Day is awful, but my favorite terrible bond movie is The World is Not Enough. Because there are so many almost good elements. Robert Carlyle is amazing and Renard is such an amazing character stuck in such a shitty movie. And then Denise Richards shows up and... like they saw her scenes. They filmed them. They edited them. They put them out to the world and at no point did anyone say "ugh, maybe we should recast because she is terrible." There's bad acting and then there is what Denise Richards is doing. It is Cindy Crawford in Fair Game levels.

I remember liking Lost World, if only for the scene with the glass cracking which was really tense.

Also, it's the first time I remember seeing Julianne Moore in a movie and fell in love. So pretty. Between her and Jeff Goldblum, it is possible my teenage hormones are remember the film as better than it was.

In other HDTGM news, today I learned my father's College roommate directed Jingle All the Way and my Dad loaned him the money to move to Hollywood. So, basically, Jingle All The Way is my father's fault but I hope nobody travels to the past to kill him because then I wouldn't have been born.

Speaking of Christopher Walken, doesn't it seem a bit risky to cast him in a live broadcast of a children's story? If he forgets a line, he might lapse into an improvisation like, "I'm . . . I'm gonna . . . eviscerate you . . . Lost Boys . . . with my hook . . . one by one . . . until one of you Benjamin Button fucks . . . tells me where Peter Pansy is hiding his cross-dressing ass and that angel dust--[corrects himself and finally raises his voice] fairy dust, goddammit!"
