Episode 61 — Pauly Shore, Our Close Friend

Recommended Posts

Because in the intro when Hayes talks about Rose McGowan going through his bathroom cabinets to see how he smells so good, he says it is from eating flowers and Sean says how Hayes always has a flower in his front pocket. Therefore- the Mario flower...

So that, and yes also the spittin' hot fire thing.

Also, Pauly had one good point. CALLERS. I called in to the first RSS live broadcast w/ my number 1 pal Joe and we RLLY bombed. It was pretty brutal. Point is, let's bring that back. Or maybe don't mess with the format, IDK. If H + S could just engineer my G D career that would be nice.

You know, I thought once they started having callers on RSS the show went downhill a little bit, and I was glad when they dropped that segment. It felt like a period of the show when they didn't really know what they wanted it to be, and lost confidence in what they were doing. (Maybe just because it took up such a large portion of the show for awhile). However, I can see it being totally awesome with their HH personas; there is much joy to be had in hearing Sean and Hayes be super mean to people for no reason.

It was a desperate ratings grab which failed because the only person calling in was Jerkface (may he rest in peace).

Yeah--RSS was fantastic, but those call in eps were brutal to listen to

Forum consensus:

  • Call-ins are fun
  • Call-in episodes are bad

Conclusion:

  • I want Hayes and Sean to personally call me and we can just kick it, no recording

Everyone should do the AV Club readers' poll and tell them to cover more Hollywood Handbook in the podcasts section.

I hate how Pauly Shore gets this many comments..

HH has a very talkative community no matter who the guest is.

The guest segment is a very small part of this show. Plus, the segment was more about Engineer Cody than it was about Pauly Shore. Also, if anything, this is a slow week here

I used to love A Goofy Movie. I mean, who didn't get goosebumps at the end when they actually got to go up on stage with Powerline?

Fear's rollercoaster fingering. Don't know that I liked it, but it certainly broadened my horizons.

Yeah, Fear was crazy. I remember making fun of that movie a lot....but then I also watched it a lot and never wanted a boyfriend. I think I was affected.

Any and all softcore porn at my grandma's trailer.

Wait, what?! Grandma was a softcore porn afficionado? Or maybe she just had skinimax?

I heard Sean wrote the Grumpy Cat Saves Christmas Special...

I read this as the Grumpy Cat Stevens Christmas Special. hahahahahaha! Cat Stevens is pretty grumpy these days. I love imagining a Grumpy Cat Stevens meme and facebook page. Is this a thing yet?

Nobody, that's who! Nobody didn't get goosebumps!

I loved that movie so much. When Max slaps that guy in the rat costume and his head flips backwards? Highly comedic stuff, right there.

Also, it has this scene, which is one of the finest ever created:

I second this. Sean, Hayes, could you give us a ring from time to time? We love you and support you and all we ask is that you call us once in a while and let us know how you're doing. Is that so much to ask? Now let me just clean that schmutz from your cheeks and make you sandwiches.

Chanson's dissertation made me think of how weird we all are, and I'm curious to what kind of weird movies/musics/tvs you guys enjoy? Eric Andre Show is hilarious, probs my favorite show on tv right now. Wet Hot American Summer be my all time movie of the lifetime. Anddddd the new Panda Bear album leaked and it is glorious, album of the next year for sure..

I love the Eric Andre Show. I've seen his live show twice and it was incredible both times.

Here are some other comedy shows I like: Venture Bros., Key & Peele, The Comeback, Workaholics, The Mighty Boosh, Broad City, Kroll Show, Delocated, Nathan For You, Veep, Friday Night Dinner, Grandma's House, @Midnight, Bored to Death, Childrens Hospital, Archer, Louie, Always Sunny, Bob's Burgers, Metalocalypse

Some classic funnies that I enjoy: Upright Citizens Brigade, Stella, State, Viva Variety, The Young Ones, Never Mind the Buzzcocks (when Mark Lamarr and Simon Amstell hosted), Tenacious D (tv show), Mr. Show, The Ben Stiller Show, Daria, Pete & Pete, Freaks and Geeks, Reno 911, Home Movies, Frisky Dingo, The Sarah Silverman Program, Dr. Katz, Strangers with Candy, Sealab 2021, Harvey Birdman, Exit 57

My all time favorite comedy tv show: The Kids in the Hall

Maybe this was too much. Needless to say, I enjoy comedy and watch too much tv.

I can't watch Nathan for You because I wish he'd just go away and not bother these poor hard-working small business owners.

Now you know how Mr. Shore felt!

There was a Grantland article where the author called all the small business owners that have been on the show. Business has picked up for many of them and there've been no negative reactions. It's a feel good show http://grantland.com/hollywood-prospectus/nathan-for-you-los-angeles-reality-tv/

Lots of good stuff there. I see a bunch of british comedies but no Look Around You or Garth Marenghi, check those out if you haven't! Garth Marenghi is probably in my top 5 tv shows of all time.
