holy shit yes! so excited for this.... who's the guest?

I'd bet anything it's going to be Matt Gourley and Matt Mira. they do the James Bonding podcast, Pauls been on their show before. and they're actually supposed to do A View to a Kill next, on their last episode they hinted at doing something different for A View to a Kill so maybe it's a joint podcast or something.

Snorks: their edginess is undeniable.

I just liked that there was more than one female Snork.

(God, I miss the USA Cartoon Express...)

Thankfully View To A Kill was added to Netflix 12/1

I think Paul was overselling that 'badness' of View to a Kill - maybe to justify doing it on the podcast.

His mocking of the trailer was weird - it was just like every other action movie trailer from the '80s.

It seems like this is just an excuse to crossover with James Bonding, which is fine.

But View to a Kill is a middle of the road Bond movie - there are at least five (Moonraker, Tomorrow Never Dies, Die Another Day, The World is not Enough and Quantum of Solace) that are WAY worse in my opinion.

I know, this one doesn't even have Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist.

I remember when this came out I wanted to see it SO bad because of the Duran Duran title song. (This was during the era where I would routinely declare to my Dad that Duran Duran was going to be "bigger than the Beatles.") My folks decided that all that sexy heat Roger Moore and Grace Jones were emitting was too much for me to handle at such a young age so I was stuck listening to the record over, and over, and over again. Totally stoked to watch the masterpiece that inspired my beloved Simon LeBon to pen such a classic...

It's funny you say that, but A View to a Kill is actually the lowest-rated official 007 movie on Rotten Tomatoes (excluding the 1967 Casino Royale), with a rating of 36%.

I know critics savaged it at the time, but I think it's because they were tired of Roger Moore. Looking at it retrospectively, there is a lot of good stuff in it.

I also call bullshit on those RT ratings. Die Another Day has 57% and yet I've never met anyone who likes it.

I'm dismayed and somewhat afraid to say that, like Paul, this will be my first James Bond movie. for whatever reason, I've never seen anything 007 related... other than the countless references to it in popular culture, of course. it's pretty much the same reason I never got into Dr. Who until recently: too many actors playing the same person, too much mythology, not enough time. I'm very particular about the manner in which I consume something of that size... I always start from the very beginning, so A View to a Kill is going to be another exception to that rule.

plus, I can get down to some Duran Duran and I never realized that tune was a titular song to this movie.... so I'm 'bout to dance into this 2-hour-and-10-minute-long fire and hope for the best worst.

If you are interested in seeing the Bond movies, you definitely do not have to watch them in order up until the three Daniel Craig movie. Aside from a few recurring characters like M and Q, the events of the previous film rarely impact the next film.

Bond seemingly meets Blofeld for the first time on a few different occasions, for example. In fact, I would recommend not trying to hold the movies to any kind of continuity because the movies constantly violate stuff that came before.

anyone know if in that Frank Pierre Presents:

is that bob from twin peaks playing the indian at the end? sure looks like him with smile he's got.

justinmh05- none of the rating sites are 100% right. I think most people just login and rate a movie, what it already is at. like IMDB everyone said it was 5% so I guess I'll give it 5 % too. I like all of the old bond movies and shit on me for saying it they are a lot better then the new ones. I hate the new ones, I don't like Daniel Craig as James bond. I wish they would of gone back to the 1950's cold war era. have the old cars with the new tricks and do things they could never have done with the original movies. to me that's james bond's real time frame. not the 2000 decade.

Paul has def seen Bond movies. He was on James bonding to talk about a different bond movie. I think he meant this is the first for the podcast.

I think he meant this was the first Bond movie he had seen in his life, and as such, held a special place in his heart for nostalgic purposes.

I concur with this. There are very few instances where an event from one film is referenced in another film. The only real exception I can think is On Her Majesty's Secret Service and the one (I can't remember which, but it was a Roger Moore one) where he is at (spoiler omitted)'s grave. Bottom line, you can watch them in any order, then you can join the debate of which actor is the best. (HINT: It is Timothy Dalton)

I want to see this fucking movie! I liked Casino Royale okay, but QoS and Skyfall were garbage. Bond is a product of another time, and I don't feel he fits well in the 21st century. In fact, one of my biggest issues with Skyfall was the misogyny in it. Misogyny is a big part of his character, but it was also the way things were back then. In Skyfall, it was like they were trying to have their cake and eat it too. After years of trying to give women an equal footing in the franchise, they struck it all down by replacing Judi Dench with Ralph Fiennes and saying Moneypenny is a secretary because she couldn't hack it in the field.* If it was all back in the 50's/60's it would make sense, but not now.

*And the fact that Skyfall insinuates that the reason she is always flirting with him is because they have already had sex, thus implying he has some magical dick she can't wait to have again. I always took their flirting to be playfully platonic. I HATE Skyfall!

I was referring to Paul's quick mention that this was his first James Bond movie, ostensibly when he was a kid.

however, I am 24 years old and have no earthly excuse for my ignorance.

If they had chosen The World Is Not Enough there would have been a great tangential string. Sophie Marceau who is in TWINE was the Demi character in the French version of LOL, BUT she was also the Angelina character in the French movie that episode 11's The Tourist blatantly ripped off, Anthony Zimmer. Then again, maybe she should never ever appear directly in a HDTGM movie only in the French versions that are remade into Hollywood flops.

I have started watching View to a Kill and can say it is def HDTGM worthy. Maybe more so than some of the other worse Bond movies because in those movies the flaws are sort of obvious. Bad casting, cash grab, trying too hard to keep the jokey Bond element in a post-Austin Powers world. But the things that are terrible in this movie are mindboggling.

For example: weird opening song montage where Roger Moore shoots lasers at women with neon. So much neon. This opening is so 1980s and the 1980s was the worst. Also, Moore's stunt double is blonde, looks nothing like Moore so that scenes of the action look very fake. The green screen insert shot in the opening chase is like a record scratch.

Oh, and whatever the fuck the butterfly show was supposed to be. What was that. What is happening.

Yes, there are worse Bond movies that have no heart. This one is still trying and failing, thus the perfect one of the show.

This was also the first Bond that I remember seeing, and it also featured possibly the first film appearance of America's sweetheart, Dolph Muthafuckin Lundgren.

If we want movies with heart that still manage to fail, the two Bond movies that are perfect IMO are Moonraker and Quantum of Solace. Both movies go for broke - and subsequently break.

You guys are right, I totally misheard and misread.

I agree with Justin though, in terms of Bond movies this is very watchable. The later Brosnan feelums are unbelievably bad and I think would be more fun for this show.

Just want to also say I actually like Daniel Craig as Bond. Although QoS makes no sense unless you watch it directly after casino royal

I'm glad you said this, because I thought it was crazy that they would mention the theme song (which is playing in the background) in the trailer. I know that Duran Duran was extremely popular, but it still seemed weird that they would think this would draw people in. But I guess not!

Nope, he died in 1995.
