EPISODE 270 — Drop the Hammer

Recommended Posts

Randy and Jason talk about how the unofficial mascot for the Vikings negotiated his way out of a job and why AC/DC is to blame for the Cubs' field conditions. Then, the Sklars welcome Jon Hamm, who discusses his recent Emmy win, as well as the art of executing the final episode of a TV series. Later, in quick hits, the gang talks about a very ambitious ball boy, why German sports fans are anything but loosey-goosey, and a very reasonable blackmailer. Lastly, Bob Durst calls in to discuss the jokes that were made at his expense by Emmy's host Andy Sandberg.

HAMM! Great stuff.

If I can provide one quick well-actually, there was some reservation about getting things right in the Premier League discussion, and then they pretty much nailed everything in the Diego Costa-Arsenal discussion. But then Hamm brought up the Robert Lewandowski 5-goal game, and they assumed that he isn't a regular starter because he came off the bench. In fact, he's one of the ~5 best strikers in the world, and only happened to be coming off the bench in this game.

As soon as Jason said Lewandowski or mispronounced his name, I knew he had screwed up and ruined our soccer cred for all time. Lewandowski is a fantastic player, so it's not that out of blue, this scoring spree. But still, it was impressive, even for a great striker of Lewandowski's prowess. Admittedly we haven't been as up on the BPL as we have in past years.

He's insane right now. Another hat trick in the Champions League yesterday, and I read a stat that he's currently the leading goal scorer in the Bundesliga (actually all 5 of the major European leagues), Euro 2016 qualifying, and the Champions League. (Also, don't feel bad about the 'mis'-pronunciation, because if you ask five soccer experts, they'll probably say it five different ways.)

Great Brew Crew talk in the Bornheimer episode we just dropped too. He was a huge Brewers fan growing up, the other side of our '82 triumph. It was the same conversation we had with Stonestreet about the '85 team. Everybody on the losing end of the stick feels like he or she was screwed.

Seriously though, how great was Hamm giving us the insight to that amazing Emmy moment after he had won. Captivating in the room, guys.
