EPISODE 123 - Lifeforce

Recommended Posts

Also I am not ashamed to admit that Mathilda May in this movie might have the most perfect boobs in all of movie history (holy crap though she was only 20 when this was made?).

Anne Hathaway's are pretty great in Love and Other Drugs.

Hey it's been busy the last few days so I haven't been able to check in. Let's seen what I missed.

Really good episode! Enjoyed Lennon as a guest a lot. I MUCH prefer her over June

"She's naked not a squirrel!"

So my question is: What the fuck was that supposed to mean?

Best guess would be something one of the guys said in the park. Reminds me of when I found some old notes I'd written about one of the movies and it simply said "Roof stairs?" Don't recall the movie or the context.

One of the major things that leapt out at me in watching this was that the initial crew is completely wiped out in the first fifteen minutes of the film (at least until Carlsen returns in the escape pod), so any connection or emotional investment we may have made in these characters at the onset evaporates pretty quickly.

I thought it was weird how Steve Railsback (Carlsen) looks a lot like Cillian Murphy but nothing like June Diane Raphael

On a second listen, I really enjoyed the crew's song in rounds about merkins.

At the 2nd Annual Howdies, they should have a category about best original/ adapted song which could include

Fuck Sub- A View to A Kill

The Best Around- Mortal Kombat

The Best Around- Maximum Overdrive

And they make sure to mention it in the movie itself a few times, if I remember correctly. That's actually the first movie I ever worked on!

Here's a fun mystery for the forums!

Unless something that really stands out to me and I don't want to forget it, I usually don't take notes as I watch HDTGM movies. However, as I was messing around on my phone a minute ago, I came across this note I evidently made while watching Lifeforce:

"She's naked not a squirrel!"

I have no recollection of ever writing this note, nor do I have any clue as to what I might have been referencing.

So my question is: What the fuck was that supposed to mean?

You realize you simply pre-cognized this weeks Comedy Bang Bang...?

Did anyone notice the British news announcer mispronounced "Halley" when he mentioned Halley's Comet? Surely in Britain they would know it's not pronounced Hay-lee, but instead Hall-lee. I haven't seen this movie but I assume (silverback alpha nerd that I am) I would find many more nerdy reasons to be offended. Harrumph! In spite of the extraordinary female attributes of Mathilda May, harrumph!

Let me speak for all British people ever and say: whilst we vaguely know it's not pronounced hey-lee, we also don't give a shit...

Just popping into say I loved all the Brit bashing in this episode, it really tickled me!

Haven't listened to the episode yet, but read the comments.

Was it just me or did this actually play like an episode of Doctor Who with some boobs, bush, and blood? I seriously expected Jon Pertwee to show up and talk the vampires into going home then watching in horror as UNIT (with special guest star Steve Railsbeck) blew it all up. After watching it, I looked at the IMDB page and saw that Patrick Troughton and Elizabeth Sladen both were considered for parts. I wonder if maybe Tobe Hooper is a Doctor Who fan?

Still, I did love the hell outta this flick. So many shots reminded me of War of the Worlds, especially all the cathedral stuff. Looking forward to listening to the episode tomorrow.

I think this movie would have worked better as an adult film.

Wait, it's not?

That should be a new segment on the mini episode, "would this have worked better as an adult film?"

I know I am late to this party but a few things I noticed that I did not see mentioned. First, worst representation of a comet in a sci-fi movie. Even in 1985 there must have been tens of thousands of stock photos of actual comets to work from. They went with a solid neon green smudge.

Second, Lots of sweating. Guys were sweating in almost every scene. But who could blame them with hot space girl walking around?

Lastly on the naked female dehydrated corpse - the film's puppet makers made sure the carpet matched the drapes. I guess 25 million will get you that kind of attention to detail.

One more thing that made me laugh. When Carlson was descibing a patiient to the Patrick Stewart he starts with, Older gentleman, grey hair, large man, then adds, with a mole on his face. Later when we see the patient the mole covers more than half his face. Maybe lead with that?

Some of the films are pure nightmare factories anyway, so I don't want to have to imagine what an adult film version of "Goobie" would be. Now YOU'RE thinking of that too. You're welcome!

The San Francisco based porn company Kink.com, kinda already did that with a scene where a girl dreams of having a gangbang with a bunch of guys in panda outfits, acting like pandas. And there is a whole site dedicated to girls banging people in panda outfits. So I guess the lesson to remember is that for the internet, always Rule 34.

Come on, if there's one thing we know about pandas, it's that they DON'T want to fuck. There are so very few left of them, and apparently they're all ugly.

To be fair they might not want to fuck other pandas, not chesty ladies.
