Episode 131 - The Covenant

Recommended Posts

When they mentioned that this movie was delivered to theaters under the code name "Full Power" and confused Jason, I got a bit confused as well. I realize that they do the code names for huge movies as to try and cut down on people stealing the reels or pirating the film, but that's for huge blockbusters like the Dark Knight trilogy or any Marvel movie, not the Covenant. Did the studio really think that this movie was going to be such a huge success that they needed to protect it with a code name? Also in regards to this being called tween girl porn, it reminded me of an old Five Second Film which is pretty funny regarding the Twilight movies.

Did that medical doctor refer to the spider bites as insect bites? Arachnid bites, bro! Bad bite classification aside, I can't help but think that this movie is a crazy analogy for drug and alcohol addiction. I can't think of any movie that is so heavy on the term "using," but isn't actually talking about drugs. They use this language more than the script for Requiem for a Dream, except they're talking about magic! We've all seen pictures of 44 year old junkies that look 110. And if you enjoy getting messed up too much- you're definitely going to be screwed by the time you ascend aka start shooting up. Darklings are clearly the ghosts in your closet, or embarrassing/awful things you've done while using like sleeping with that person you shouldn't have slept with or calling your youth pastor drunk at 4am. Thinking about that shit can and will distract you into hitting a log truck. And in the end, your addiction is going to hurt your friends, mom that might want your body, and that blonde girl you made gross french kissing sounds with. Finally, you're going to have to battle for sobriety or will your power to the junk. Also, Jessica Biel managed the transition from cute child star to hot celebrity.

I'd forgotten that the subject of code names had come up, and as you correctly mentioned, it was most common with the bigger films, but even then, it was kind of pointless. It wasn't like they tried to pass it off as a REAL film that would fool anyone, because it was always something totally phony that MIGHT have a pun or reference in it. "Oh shit, I was totally going to steal this theater's prints of 'Lord of the Rings', but it looks like they're getting three screens of this OTHER three hour movie called 'Deadly Jewelry' that I've never heard of that apparently starts on the same day". My theater only does digital now, with movies now remotely uploaded to our server (we used to get hard drives shipped to us every week), and I don't recall any code names since the switch EXCEPT for the "10 Cloverfield Lane" trailer a couple months back, where they went so far as to even call it something else in the file name.

Let's go back to the skirt-flipping scene for an OMISSION.

In

, the faceless skirt-flippee is wearing tiny black underwear.

On the DVD, you get that same 1/8th of a second shot of faceless butt, sans-underwear.

So I would ask our hosts and the fans which of the following is the most upsetting:

1) the thought of someone in post-production having to CGI panties ONTO a girl's butt

2) the thought of someone in post-production having to CGI panties OFF of a girl's butt

3) the fact that I noticed this

4) the fact that most of you pervo creeps who just heard about this are going to "fact check" me. You know... for research purposes.

I would guess that they just shot both versions.

Here's a question. Since they are also doing Can't Stop the Music, why haven't they done more Steve Guttenberg movies?

My vote:

As a kid I thought this movie was hilarious... yeesh.

Possible (and still upsetting). But they did do the CGI thing with Natalie Portman's butt in the different trailers for Your Highness.

Absolutely!! Jason, I love you completely, but I'm also a fellow Masshole...Ipswich has one of my favorite NORTH SHORE beaches!!! But the Lynn bit...classic! :D/>

Gonna jump on this bandwagon as a north shore guy. I was filled with tears of laughter when Jason described riding from South Shore to North Shore but was subsequently conflicted by his surprisingly forgetful home-rooted geography. Jason, I am a huge fan and will forgive you (especially given the upper hand North Shore was presented in his tale). Heynong man.

I like the idea of a Steve Guttenberg movie night but you could blind pick any one of his movies and odds are it's going to be a gemstone diamond. Case in point:

Minus Cocoon and Short Circuit, that are timeless classics.

if i was picking them I would select the classic, "

" (1987) and seeing that june is having another baby it would be funny to hear her comment on the subject of men raising kids.

This one used to come on some movie channel constantly when I was a kid. I haven't seen it in ages. I remembered Jennifer Tilly also being in it, but not Liam Neeson!

After the number of posts about MA geography in this thread, I imagine Jason is going to have to come on the minisode to issue a politician-style apology.

"Okay, you want me to say I was wrong about my MA geography? I was wrong about my MA geography, okay?"

So if Caleb is using all that magic after turning 18, and now his decaying 44 year old Dad's powers, wouldn't that make him a full blown junkie?

I follow Sebastian Stan on Instagram and when I saw what movie they were doing this week I immediately thought of this picture he posted a few weeks ago:

Someone tell the person who wrote that Amazon review who wanted a sequel!

this is one of the most bonkers fan made trailers ive seen .. and it has a crazy view count ... the fan fiction for this movie must be insane

Wow, that was fucking stupid. Not bonkers or insane, JUST stupid. Most of it is just clips from the movie with stuff from other places that just really, really doesn't look like it belongs. I like how they literally just used the title cards that were already there, and then tacked on what was essentially "...until now!". If it was a real physical thing, it would have been scotch taped onto it and written in crayon. Jesus, and System of a Down...

I have to say they are all WAY more attractive now than they were 10 years ago. They're all like a fine wine.

Or maybe it's just the way their hair and clothes were styled in this movie that really just don't hold up cause like I said pages ago my 16 year old self was into Steven Strait back then.

Of course not, as the master of fan fiction, Hans von Hozel, demonstrates:

----

All the Covenants wanted to use on their powers.

"When we use our powers!" say the Covenants, "It makes a drugs!"

And so the Covenants used their powers.

They made a happy danube in the sky.

The people saw the Covenants happy powers, and wanted to make a using of these.

"WE WANT YOUR POWERS ALSO!" say the people, and they go Covenant hunting!

The Covenants hide in a castle, but the people knocked down the roof and a splat.

"Oh no!" say the people, "We have crush Covenants and now not powers for us!!!!"

The people made a sadly.

They had destroyed all powers.
