Episode 133.5 - Minisode 133.5

Recommended Posts

Just found a review of the NY Times:

"Bruce Jenner plays an uptight lawyer, and the comic high point of the film occurs when he spills dinner and has to take off his pants. Valerie Perrine plays a woman. In the boy-meet-boy world of the movie, this is something of a novelty, but it doesn't make for much of a role. The intervals between musical numbers are mostly dead air."

gotta admit i never heard of cant stop the music or the two live show movies ... i know i sound like a broken record but i really wish they would go back to more readily available movies ... im sure this podcast has a world wide audience so why not pick movies that we can all access.

just to be clear, im not mad at the HDTGM team, never would never could, but the geoblocks these movie companies put up are driving me nuts ... its like they dont want to make money.

(sorry for the rant ... think im still abit mad since netflix blocked proxies ... gutted)

Hah, Solarbabies! IIRC this is like a roller skating dystopian movie.

I'm not gonna be able to watch it ( can't stop the music) either, since it's not on netflix and I'm in a situation right now where I can't buy anything online, and apparently it's not in demand enough for the (Not quite as legal) streaming sites that don't require you to sign up.

Are we 100% sure that that was the actual Chewbacca and not just some guy calling in as he tried to do a split?

I thought it was the Holiday Special's grandpa watching the space porno.

i think it was lando who pointed me in the direction of this guy on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/user/Davel23/submitted/

they have something called a movie club. there seems to be a group of HDTGM fans out there who get together every week and stream the movie being covered. its were i saw the apple.

he updates his reddit (i have no clue how that site works, cant even read it) with the times (usually it UTC which is GMT) and they stream it here http://cytu.be/r/MovieClub

between episodes they have a "movie of the week" ... right now as im typing this they are watching and discusiing dr. strangelove.

its kinda cool actually. i never knew this things even existed. all less than legal but ... im not going on another geoblock rant ...

are any of the regulars on here invloved with it?

i love the way HDTGM fans have developed all different ways of getting together. like some people prefer here, or on twitter/facebook. others go to the live shows and now i know reddit groups (?) and movie clubs have formed over it.

I just wanted to say, in the last thread when we were pairing Tango & Cash with different songs, I was very close to using this one:

Needless to say, I am very much looking forward to this movie. :)

The sign clearly says "no rollerskating." That really took me out of the movie. The whole time I'm thinking "these people are scofflaws."

I like the underlying message of the movie: fuck dentists.

I also like the Grease poster on Guttenberg's wall his room is an Allan Car museum.

"Anybody who can swallow two snowballs and a dingdong shouldn't have any trouble with pride."

This is a line that an actor said in this movie.

Okay, holy shit.

The opening credits alone make this movie insane with the top billed performers being the Village People, Steve Gutenberg, and introducing Bruce Jenner. Then you have Gutenberg dancing on roller skates like a spaz, followed by quick cuts of various oddballs throughout New York City. Also, I am almost certain you can see the balls of the guy riding the unicycle in the oddball montage, because it looked like Gutenberg's hair in his crotch. Lastly when they introduce the club owner in his bedazzled rose jacket, he is so clearly coked out of his mind he can't see straight, his eyes are almost as red as the flowers on his jacket they are so bloodshot.

I'm wondering what this line might be in the german version. I'm quite sure they changed it so much, that it makes no sense at all. Buuuut, I'm no willing to buy that movie so I will never know. But I don't hink I'll miss much. ;)

So I listened again to the part of the mini-episode where the creepy dudes call in. Is the guy whom Paul calls "the Honey Man" calling himself 'Honey Man' or 'Hummy Man'? It's hard to tell.

Hey Paul, what was up with going after the men that liked man-splits and man-buns? Felt a little homophobic there.

"One more time!"

"No! No more times! I cannot milk shake any longer! And stop pointing at me, movie lady!!"

---

Traffic Mgr: "Hello, this is WNBC in New York. You sent us a 1" broadcast dub of your Milk Council commercial."

Steve G: "Yes, I think it's terrific! Isn't it just the best?"

Traffic Mgr: "It's four and a half minutes long. How in the hell am I supposed to find space for a four minute commercial inside a two minute ad break?"

Steve G: "Wow. I hadn't thought of that. Honestly, we just let the cameras roll and the guys just went nuts."

Traffic Mgr: "Do you have the budget to expand it to a half hour and run it as an infomercial?"

Steve G: "We blew our budget on silver lame short-shorts. Sorry."

Whatever happened to Bruce Jenner anyways? Last I heard, he was with those Kardashian harpies.

Looks like his twin sister has really exploded onto the scene though.

Isn't Nancy Walker the lady who did those "quicker picker upper" commercials?

Nancy Walker is indeed the quicker picker upper lady, but I have not the knowledge to post a youtube video demonstrating this fact. Suffice to say, she was "Rosie", who owned a diner where real dumb and clumsy customers would constantly spill stuff all over her place. Lucky for them, Rosie always had some Bounty paper towels at hand, and she'd clean up while lecturing them about how great the towels were.

I think his assertion was, these were not gay men showing genuine appreciation for the male form. These were dudes saying stuff specifically to sound creepy. Maybe he was wrong.

So excited for next week!!?

As I mentioned a few months ago I only saw three movies at the cinema before I was 16 - ET, Xanadu and this one. I was visiting my cousins who insisted we see this - and they were really into KISS and Heavy Metal, so why they wanted to see this movie???!!!
