Episode 138.5 - Minisode 138.5

Recommended Posts

I could feel your pain all week from way across the country. I'm not from Orlando originally, but I lived there, and around there, for the better part of a decade. When it happened, I was just scanning names to make sure there wasn't anyone I knew, but the more stories I read about the individuals, the more I realized that it doesn't matter that I didn't know any of them personally, y'know? I still knew them. Suffice it to say, I've surprised myself a couple times welling up as I read these stories.

However, over the week, my feelings for why silly things like HDTGM are important has been somewhat reinforced. While they can't ameliorate the pain, and shouldn't be an ether to forget what has happened, it's important to remember that there are good things in the world--positive things--and we can't let ourselves be so swept up in sorrow that we become blind to the fact that, ultimately, for everyone of every lifestyle, life should be something worth living and should be lived with one's whole heart. If we forget that, then what's even the point?

I guess what I'm saying is this: make your day better, by making other people's day better. I'm not just talking about friends and family, either. Everyone. Smile. Sympathize. Tell a stupid joke. Whatever. Thank the bag boy for bagging your groceries or tell a stranger that you like their shoes. Like Candide (kind of) said, "Let's us tend to our own garden." Let's make the space around us something beautiful, and then let's take that with us wherever we go.

And to the people who say, "Well the Bible says so and so so therefore it's wrong" and use that as an excuse to say all manner of terrible things, I'll just say this: the New Testament was a reaction to the Old. It basically threw away a lot of the outdated bullshit (e.g. a menstruating woman needs to leave the village and so forth). What this means, from a spiritual perspective, is that either God is not infallible, or that He is willing to change His mind from time to time. And if fucking God can do that, then so can you!

Seriously, if it takes a freaking book for a person to realize that something--that should be self-evident--is the wrong way to think, then I will gladly get to work on the New New Testament and clarify some of that bullshit for you.

This episode of Cameron's Soapbox was brought to by Dove. Dove: "Ain't it great to smell like a bird?"

Cam, this is why you're so revered around here. Thank you for putting into words what my peanut brain could not.

Well, we're in between episodes right now. I gotta C&O something, right?

And just so I can join in all the reindeer games, how do you embed videos in your comments?

I always just paste the URL minus the "S" in "https." That always works for me. Otherwise, I think it's:

The easiest way is to paste the full YouTube URL (not the youtu.be version) and wrap it in [media] tags. Example:

I always just paste the URL minus the "S" in "https." That always works for me. Otherwise, I think it's:

You should be able to use either http:// or https:// URLs now. I fixed this a few months ago, and will be adding support for youtu.be short URLs as soon as I have the chance.

I've never seen Charles in Charge but I guessed it was your average goofy family American sit-com. However listening to the theme song lyrics I'm getting a very kinky vibe 'I watch Charles in charge of me!'? Sounds very 50 Shades of Grey.

That's what makes it such a great song. Technically it's about Scott Baio babysitting a group of kids who he should not be sleeping with, but he probably is.

"Of my days AND my nights."

Oh wow, I hadn't even listened to the mini episode yet when I picked Rockford Files! I guess that settles it.

None of you are even close.

1. A-Team

I was going to pick that, but I couldn't find the shorter version used on the show. It's so rad! Another one I just remembered is the Knight Rider theme. I'm surprised this hasn't had a huge resurgence in popularity, given the love for Kavinsky/Drive/synth stuff in general.

Simon & Simon

No fun making here, I think Rockford is great.

Simon & Simon is no Hardcastle & McCormick.

It sounds like Bobo Kenny Loggins.

who he should not be sleeping with, but he probably is.

I feel like that's probably an adequate description of Scott Baio's life.

Side note: That guy's a total piece of shit.

There should be separate categories for favorite tv show themes: those with lyrics vs instrumentals.

What if I told you that your voice is also an instrument?

There is the real theme song to Different Strokes,

I feel I have to share this with you all, I had a Brush with Greatness once with Conrad Bain who at one point was ether living here or doing Mayfield Dinner Theatre here in Edmonton. The Mayfield

dinner theater is the kind of place you will see such legends as Jamie Farr & Joyce DeWitt.

But I had see Conrad Bain at west edmonton mall. once. me and my sister hadout shopping and noticed him walking around and we both looked at each other and started laughing our ass's off when we had seen him walking around. She had told me that he was living here. it was him alright, when we got home he was doing a show at the Mayfield Dinner Theatre. btw mall of America is not the biggest mall the world. it's the biggest mall in America but biggest Mall in the world goes to West Edmonton Mall here in alberta canada.

the second Brush with Greatness was at Bally casino in Las Vegas and at the shops down stairs was walking along Sherman Hemsley. he was doing a show a the comedy stage there at Bally's

I remember thinking to myself man is he really short. we never really talk to him but he did have two big body guards walking along with him, as she shopped or looked at the many stores in the basement shop area at the time. it was a kind of strange moment. My sister also got to meet red fox once.

3.

(the forums will only let you post two videos =\ )

This may be sacrilege, but I actually prefer the new cartoon's theme to the old one. My son loves it! *chokes back a sob* Little guy makes me so damned proud...

As another instrumental, I'd like to also add the theme song for Angel. I don't know that the show ever lived up to that intro. It's more what the show wanted to be rather than what it actually was. Still, I liked the two seasons and the series finale.

I just started listening just a little bit ago, and I have no idea why, I've heard the Charles in Charge theme a shit ton of times, but for some reason, this listen through I thought "Hmm.. Is it just me, or does the Charles in Charge theme song sound kinda like the "baby music"/"Baby mobile" music from Fallout 3/4??"

I very much could just be finally losing my marbles though.

For this post, Amy leapt up 10 spots in the secret Earwolf Forum Power Rankings.

But perhaps I've said too much…

"Tiny Tune Adventures" and "Animaniacs" both hold the same place in my heart, but Animaniacs wins out.

Given my newfound powers to post videos here, I'd be remiss if I didn't include the theme song to one of my absolute favorite television shows of all time: Mystery Science Theater 3000.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sHNDfUw7p8

(This video contains all of the intros to this show and is 10 minutes long. Sorry. I couldn't find a stand-alone Joel-era intro, so this was the next best thing.)
