This has to be the best possible way to be greeted by someone you don't know when visiting a city for the first time.

 

 

The movie accurately predicted smart phones (of 2013). All the handheld devices in this movie are all the same garage door opener with LCD numbers-only display hot-glued on. We know that each device does something different because the actors tell us so.

I actually don't like Halloween. I think it's one of his weaker films. I even prefer Vampires to it. I'm not a big fan of slasher movies to begin with, but I find that movie kind of uninteresting.

I'm not a huge fan of it (although I enjoyed this one more than some of the others, even though I hated the movie they were talking about). I also realize that I'm likely not their target demographic, and I imagine there are people that really enjoy it.

Maaaan, that review of the Correction and Omissions made me realize how much I love both the Massachusetts broken windshield spiel and Cameron H.'s "Streets of Fire as a metaphor for Rock n' Roll" thesis. Both are fucking brilliant. Well done! *bows*

 

Everyone should see escape Escape From New York because it is amazing. I think seeing Escape From L.A. before it might diminish your ability to enjoy the former because L.A. is basically a weaker version of the same movie (but it has Bruce Campbell and Kurt Russell so it is still very enjoyable). John Carpenter is one of my favorite filmmakers, and I think The Thing might be his all-around best movie, but Big Trouble in Little China and They Live are also just perfect movies. Halloween and The Fog are also great (controversial statement, I know!). Prince of Darkness and Mouth of Madness, while flawed, are severely underrated and wonderful. I have never seen Starman which is a GREAT SIN AND I HUMBLY APOLOGIZE.

I like In the Mouth of Madness and Prince of Darkness quite a bit, even though they aren't his best work. I usually end up watching those two and The Thing together because if I see one part of the "Apocalypse Trilogy," I want to see the rest.

 

I finally saw the last JC movie I hadn't seen last year: Dark Star. It's really weird, but it's also kind of awesome because you can see how much of the filmmakers' future work (especially Dan O'Bannon's) was bundled in this fucking weird little student film.

 

Also, I saw Escape from LA first, and it didn't really ruin Escape from NY for me. In fact, it actually made me appreciate the first movie more because I was like, "Ohhhhh, so that's what that movie would be like if it were actually good."

I feel like they are picking on poor John Carpenter...

I always avoided watching horror movies, then somehow some years ago my roommate pulled me into the genre by having me watch The Thing. As far as Carpenter movies, I've also seen Halloween, Big Trouble in Little China, The Fog, Escape from New York, and In the Mouth of Madness. I like most of them, except for The Fog.

I was really hoping someone would bring this up, as I'm not a fan but I wasn't sure what the overall consensus is. I know the segments are called Movie BITCHES, but they're just too mean for me. The thing I like about HDTGM is that yeah they're kind of making fun of the movie, but they also try to at least give the flick a chance and figure out what was going on. The Movie Bitches are mean just to be mean.

My friend's 30th birthday was over the weekend, so we spent NYE watching movies made in 1986. About half of my friends had never seen Big Trouble in Little China before, which is kind of shocking. But they all totally loved it.

 

It was one of those movies I used to watch when I would go visit my grandmother every summer. My uncle is only about 8 years older than me, so he was in middle school and high school when I was a kid. He would show me all the movies my parents wouldn't let me watch, and he's the one that introduced me to John Carpenter through Big Trouble in Little China. To this day, it's one of my all-time favorite movies.
