Galaxy of Terror (1981)

Recommended Posts

A poor man's Alien, Galaxy of Terror came out two years after that masterpiece. It was a mid-career effort of Roger Corman. Maybe too gory for the crew to cover, but it's...interesting.

Oh, and James Cameron worked on this film as a production designer. Just think, without it, he wouldn't have perfected Terminator and Aliens. Another one: Robert Englund was in it before the Nightmare series started.

"On a desolate, storm-lashed planet called Morganthus, the last survivor of a crashed spaceship is attacked and killed by an unseen force.

On another planet a very long distance away, two figures are seen playing a strange game. One, an old woman named Mitri, is identified as the controller of the game while the other, whose head is obscured by a glowing ball of red light, turns out to be an all-powerful mystic called the Planet Master. The two speak cryptically of things being put into motion, and the Master instructs one of his military commanders to send a ship to Morganthus."

Wow! Zalman King of the Red Shoe Diaries was in this? Talk about a random fact.

I love this movie more than any Alien movie past Aliens. It's got Sid Haig as a mute warrior in it, it's got Erin Moran in it and it's just unabashedly slimy and scummy. All the right ingredients for a movie to just zone out to. 5 STARS.
