Musical Mondays Week 30 Preview (Joel_Rosenbaum’s 2nd Pick)

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen Ferdinand but it has decent reviews. I assume I wouldn't like it as much as Lego Batman. But people are reacting like it's utter trash.

We could also be arguing just as much for Mary And The Witch's Flower which is wonderful.

Having now watched Boss Baby and Ferdinand, I'm going to walk back my mild defense of Ferdinand. It's not a good movie. I liked the beginning and Cena was fine. The rest is very mediocre.

The one child in the auditorium laughed a lot though.

I like imagining that the theater was packed, but there was only one child there.

It was me, a 20 year old and her young sister.

For a while, it was just me which felt super awkward watching Ferdinand.

I had the whole theater to myself when I saw Call Me By Your Name, and I feel like it would have been super awkward any other way...

Also, when I saw Book of Henry, I went opening night, and there was one other person at the end of my row. And that was it. We were both drinking and basically shouting at each other before the movie about how terrible Colin Trevorrow is. Then we ended up moving in so we were a couple seats away from each other and just drinking and laughing for the whole movie.

Oh, and when I saw Proud Mary a couple weeks ago, it was just me and about 4 other people. The lady at the end of my row had commentary on the whole movie, but it was absolutely more entertaining than the movie itself.

I was uncomfortable during the one scene but I would have been uncomfortable even by myself.

I was by myself when I saw Diary Of A Teenage Girl and it was still uncomfortable in parts. I checked my phone occasionally just too ease the awkwardness.

I saw 40 Year Old Virgin and Zack and Miri Make a Porno in theaters with my mom so I think I win the uncomfortable game.

I took my little Christian mother to see Knocked Up in the theatre... I didn’t realize it was Judd Apatow for whatever it’s worth.

When the movie opened to the sound of bong hits and ODB I knew I had made it horrible terrible mistake.

My mom and I saw Michael J. Fox' The Secret of My Success in the theater. Between his neighbors boning and Margaret Whitton (I had to look up her name. She's the "evil" owner in Major League as well.) taking her top off it's was uncomfortable. Taylor anne photo still wins but it was "interesting".

Mostly I'm joking about the comfortableness but looking back I honestly do think "y tho??". That's exactly my mom's kinda humor and she absolutely loves Judd Apatow so most of these movies have been an absolute no brainer to take her too. Knocked Up is literally one of her favorite movies ever and she claims she discovered Adam Scott lol. Direct quote: "I'm just saying I knew about the 'Let's have a baby!' guy before everyone else."

Absolutely. I'm thinking of the time I watched Murder At 1600 and my dad made reference to it being a porno. There's one sex scene with no nudity. I think it lasts a few seconds.

Oh not to say there haven't been times where I'm like "oh I don't want to be watching this with her." Any time female masturbation comes up in a movie I'm immediately like oh god no please.

Once, my mother-in-law came to visit and we went to the theater. We decided to either see "Knocked up" or "The Waitress" (ie. the "bake your emotions into delicious pies" movie).

We chose "Knocked Up" because my m-i-l thought it sounded like a cute family comedy and we weren't in the mood for a "drama."

We chose ... poorly.

I don't remember anything in the movie because my internal monologue was just screaming "ohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgod!"

I feel bad for not correctly guessing the Freejack Vimeo password. -_-

It starts with a B and rhymes with wonkers.

I just want to throw this out to the group. Apparently, Steven Spielberg' s next film will be a remake of West Side Story. My question is: why? Nothing against Spielberg, but WSS is objectively one of the best movies of all time. It would be like looking at Citizen Kane and thinking, "I could do better."

Thoughts?

Don't feel bad. When Paul said we had to guess, I thought "Man, I'm never going to figure that out. I'm sure someone on the boards will just tell us."

But then I thought about how I actually bought the DVD when they announced Freejack a couple months ago for a future episode. Well, at least no one else has to pay for it.

Are we talking about alone in theater stories? This has only happened to me once when I went to see Final Fantasy Spirits Within and nothing of interest to be said there. However, my friend and I went to see Eight Legged Freaks in theater and there was only one older couple in the theater with us. Half way through they just yelled "quiet!" and the only thing we were doing was laughing at the movie. I wonder what would have happened if there were more people there laughing at a funny movie.

I bought The Wall if it's any consolation. Just finished watching it. Wow...
