Steven Williams's character Rabbit at one point screams, "Instant emphysema on your monkey ass," and that moment--and I guess the whole movie--feel like the gasping idiot death of the 90s. The attempt at Tarantino-esque banter, Lori Petty's experiment to see if she can make her eyebrows so thin that they alone amount to a character, Lou Diamond Phillips's dead-eyed vision questing: it's all gloriously, perfectly terrible. The fact that they're being pursued by a ZOMBIE CHAIN GANG ROAD CREW is just icing.
