Episode 31 — Birdemic: Shock and Terror LIVE!

Recommended Posts

Did you guys know that there is a crisis with our environment? If not, you must not have seen Birdemic: Shock and Terror, this week's victim for a very special How Did This Get Made? LIVE! Our friend "Weird Al" Yankovic is on the panel to enjoy the CGI dancing, obvious typos, and complete lack of editing that made this thriller a cult classic. Also on hand is Whitney Moore, star of Birdemic, who tells us the truth about her robotic costar, shares insight into the audition process, and divulges information about the sequel. This is less like a podcast, and more like you're Just Hanging Out with some friends.

"47 minutes of the movie are a(n) autistic man's pursuit of a beautiful woman for purposes, I beleive, of murder."

Jason is awesome!

Absolutely brilliant guys. I remember when I watched it for the first time and almost every single point you brought up I noticed: the blatant environmentalism, the awkward pacing/dialogue, the lack of birds to name a few.

Unfortunately, a sequel will never capture the magic of the original. However I will still watch it.

Oh, I'd love to see an episode with the MST3K/Cinematic Titanic/Rifftrax guys. I hope that is in the works.

Oh boy. I wish I was not reminded of this song.... this had to have been a return favor. It contains more shock and terror than any other part of this movie.

wait wait... "Young ladies are doing their makeup.. and the brothas can't wait to hook up..."

AREN'T YOU HANGING OUT WITH YOUR FAMILY???

Awesome show! Watching Birdemic was a horrible chore but the Rifftrax of it is really funny and I love how much their comedic commentary parallels at times with Paul & Co. Great to hear from Moore who provided the most enjoyable aspect of the film and clearly the only one involved with some actual film-making talent as an actor. And Weird Al, awesome as always! His description of how jarring it is when the birds FINALLY attack was simply perfect. I think this is the best HDTGM yet.

I'm sorry, but more often than not, Jason Mantzoukas derails the conversation instead of adding anything.

There are so many many questions pertaining to this epic pile of crap; but I'll just pose this one: Why such long drawn out beginning and ending sequences? I just wanted the misery to go away, but instead they sat there on the beach and watched as the two-dimensional bird pinatas drifted off into the green screen.

Most incorrect thing.

47 minutes into Birdemic before the birds appear

47 minutes into this podcast before Whitney Moore appears

I really, really hope this was intentional.

Great episode all around.

Though it not further explained, the reason that the attacking eagles and vultures leave the beach is that they are chased/escorted away by a flight of doves.

I have to disagree. His humor is what brings me to this podcast the most.

Listening to this podcast helped to heal the wounds I had from watching Birdemic. I had totally forgotten about everything amazing that happened in those first 47 minutes because the fucking bird noise made my teeth hurt and I was just so upset by the end that I couldn't remember ever enjoying it even a little.

...maybe I'm still a little scarred. That noise is awful. I don't feel like this was stressed enough.

The exciting discovery I made when imdb'ing our dear Whitney Moore I discovered that she plays Batman in my favorite film of the millenium,

Will a video of this recording also be released?

I'm also curious about this. Is the video to be expected, or was that a one time thing? Audio is sufficient, but if there is video available I will always opt for that.

no, we chose not to video this show. but if there is demand for it, the next might be filmed.

Okay. Good to know. Thanks for the response.

I think that in the future the video would make a nice premium episode. I'd be just as willing to pony up for that as I am for premium Who Charteds and Bang Bangs.

I really enjoyed this podcast, but I wanted to touch on some additional things I noted which weren't explained really in the podcast.

It seemed like every character knew where to go without being told where to go. They touched on the Viet.....manese restaurant, but it just seemed like these characters knew everything all the time about the plot, and it didn't need to be discussed. Like when Whitney Moore told her mom about meeting a guy at the restaurant, she didn't meet him at the restaurant, she met him on the street. It didn't even seem like she knew he was at the restaurant.

Another thing which stood out for me was we had NO IDEA where we were. We knew we were in California, but we didn't know where. We just knew we weren't in San Francisco because Whitney Moore told us she wasn't from the area (she was from San Fran), but the only news the guy watched was about stuff in San Francisco. Another news note, did anyone else notice after the news about the polar bears dying, when Rod left his house it was almost like they were playing a triumphant symphony behind him?

They also didn't mention the one kid calling the forest guy a "tree hugger." I actually had to pause the movie, and walk away hunched over as I bursted out in laughter.

Also, we never saw the guys reload until the last scene when Hot Rod ran out of bullets. He must've had the biggest ammo clip and it could hold like 1000 bullets.

When Whitney Moore and Rod were at the restaurant PARTYIN WITH THE FAMILY, they get their drinks, but need more time to look at the menu. The waiter says "okay, hope you enjoy." Enjoy what? They didn't get any food yet. Maybe this stood out to me because I was a waiter at one point.

I wondered if the girl in the orange bathing suit was legal.

Had Rod ever used a cell phone before? The scene in Whitney Moore's apartment/hotel(?) he put the phone up to his ear and goes "BATTERY IS DEAD." It was like he had no idea how to check if the battery was dead.

I'm very glad Jason touched on how this guy seemed like a serial killer. I thought that was hilarious, especially the way he ran her down, and his awkward demeanor.

I really enjoyed this movie, probably too much. I have watched it twice on Netflix instant, and will probably watch it again. I hope the 2nd one comes out in theaters. I really want to see it. I found a new guilty pleasure.
