Recommendations for a condenser mic?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced usb condenser mic? My podcast has finally reached a point where it can afford to buy one and this is unfamiliar territory for me!

I use a Marshall MXL USB.007 and really really like it. I use it for both vocal recording during podcasting and recording acoustic guitar. Very versatile, great sound quality, and well priced.

Although not totally needed with this mic, depending on your speech patterns, getting a cheap pop filter won't hurt. I tend to drag on "S"s but others I've used the mic with have hard "P"s and having the pop filter was useful. This one works nicely and is cheap:

I've also heard good things about the Blue Yeti:

I would recommend the Audio Technica AT2020. You can get it for $100 or less. A lot of cheaper condensers suffer from a hyped high end. That one strikes me as a lot smoother.

Ditto on the Perception 120. I have four of them and haven't had any complaints. Rich sound for a sub $100 mic. The built-in attenuator is nice too.
