Episode 152 — Behind the Irony Curtain

Recommended Posts

I think this contained very skillful performances by Seth Morris and Ed Helms. Excellent interplay between the two of them.... really enjoyable!!

The disclaimer didn't feel necessary, honestly (if anything, I'd like to hear one about the two characters last week...yikes). Ed was perfectly game, and it all built up to one of the best laughs of the year on this show ("I thought they were mustard packets!").

Seth's 'Uh-uh' about the weather and the Brett Gelman impression right off the bat were hilarious.

That really was a stellar Brett Gelman impression. I wonder how long Seth Morris could appear as him before we realized we were being hoodwinked.

OH OHH can we please have an episode where Seth plays Brett, James Adomian can do Andy Kindler or Todd Glass, and Pete Holmes could do his TJ Miller.

I love when comedians do impressions of each other so much.

This intro is making me so nervous.

I nominate this podcast for most stressful opening ever in a comedy podcast.

Yeah, I was so nervous during the disclaimer. For a while there it was sounding like a serious fight or some ugliness came out during the recording, not just Ed Helms being discombobulated and taking a few minutes to find the character and get funny. I was afraid this was going to be a "losing respect for an entertainer I really enjoy due to serious ugliness on a podcast" situation, another Penny Arcade / Jordan Jesse Go debacle. Very glad it turned out to be no big deal and a fun episode.

Also, reminded me a little of the first few minutes of the "Todd Glass comes out" WTF. From the way Marc was talking, I thought Todd was either running for political office or dying. I was so relieved once they actually made the reveal.

Thanks for the plugs props, guys!

I really enjoyed this episode, for all the reasons that the comments have already listed. I also thought the Ed Helms songs during the musical breaks were a nice touch.

This 'lost' episode was totally worth it for Seth's impersonation of Brett Gelman. (8:20min)

I don't think that's the right time.... I tried to go back and listen again, and at 8:20 they are just starting the actual show.... It's not at 18:20 or 28:20 or 38:20 or 48:20.... :-) Can anyone help me? :-)

The 8:20min. is indeed correct. The Gelman impersonation is at the beginning of the show. Should be the same time no matter how you're listening to the episode, but in case you want to give it another try, I'm just streaming on the Earwolf site and that time's working for me.

I'm like 1 minute in, but I have to comment just to say that Seth Morris's impression of Brett Gelman sounds exactly like him!!

So do I - especially when it's James Adomian doing the impression. I was disappointed to learn that PFT doesn't like people to "do" him, because he thinks it implies that his "essence" is easy to capture. I disagree. I think the comedian has done all the hard work to make his/her voice distinctive, and should be proud that they are so unique that everyone knows who is being referenced, even if the vocal impression isn't spot-on.

Speaking of brilliant comedians, I recently saw an ad for Larry the Cable Guy's show at the 'East Side Cannery' in Vegas... For those of you not familiar, this would be the L.A. equivalent of headlining at a Del Taco in Burbank. I snickered at this right up until I bought my tickets for Weird Al at 'Terrible's' in freakin' Primm, NV - that's when I realized that these shitty casinos must shell out HUGE money for big names like that...

Git-R-Successfully Concluded.

Ed did a great job on this one. Not sure if they had given him direction on that, but his character had a clear hook right away. Funny stuff as always. :)
