In my opinion, this was the most entertaining podcast episode/forum banter I've experienced yet. The movie was surprisingly AWESOME and addictive (I've watched it twice in a week, once before the episode and once after). I loved all of the over-anayzation of a movie such as this.

To answer an earlier question, "sleepaway camp" is a general term used for camps where the campers live for the duration, as opposed to "day camp".

This movie was beyond fucking bananas.

 

Trying to connect this family's genealogy is as useless as boobs on a bull.

 

As soon as I heard the line "Where I come from, we call them baldies.", I knew I was in for some shit.

 

And just where the hell DOES that guy come from??? I love how he punches the box of tomatoes, too.

 

This was supposed to be a horror movie of sorts, but the big reveal of the end wasn't scary at all, and there was NO resolution. It was just a child tranny. The director does realize that chicks with dicks is a sub genre of porn and not horror, right?

 

I think the real problem with this movie is it makes you too sympathetic with the murderer (and its plain as day WHO the murderer is from the start, even if you dont know WHAT the murderer is). The only people who are killed, aside from the kid at the very end, are all highly irrational, volatile assholes. You WANT them to die, you're never anxiety ridden because you fear they might.

 

And how the hell do you get away from this without talking about the old man pummeling ricky to a pulp with his fists???? This guy was paranoid beyond belief about word getting out about the rape-chef getting scalded with hot water.... how was he going to explain pummeling a child in the dark of the forest???

Picking apart the relationships of the characters in this movie was probably the most fun. I gasped so hard when I caught on that the mom/aunt/Dr. might be the dad's lover that I choked on my own spit. I'm still not convinced this is actually isn't the plotline. "I feel like" this actually was the main point of the film and then the studio was like "no, cut most of that out and just add more kiddie sex and murder."

All this crazy speculation and ideas about things that are probably more interesting and make more sense than what actually appeared in the film or what the filmmakers intended? This is like the slasher version of "Prometheus" or something, but with way more half-shirts.

Totally late for posting on this one but....DAMN...

 

I enjoyed this movie far more than I thought I would. Crazy freaky at the end. It horrified my girlfriend while I just sat there jaw dropped and smiling because I could not believe what I was watching.

 

The movie wasn't really that bad either. It was insane, yes, but not horrible. The pointless scenes like the baseball trash talking I think DID have a point. I think what the director wanted to do was to give a motive to mostly the whole camp for 'who is the murderer'. I mean..... It's pretty obvious who was killing everyone, but the REAL twist was......something else......

 

So I understand these random pointless scenes, but it was just predictable.

 

Fuck.

I dunno if anyone has said this but...

 

My theory is that Ricky's father is the brother of Peter and Angela's father, who then left/divorced the Aunt doctor Martha after his niece's and brother's accidental death, then the Aunt doctor Martha got the custody and took Peter in. Then becuse she already had Ricky (a son) Peter was transformed into the NEW Angela

 

and

 

I think the blackroom flashback scene where Peter points at Angela's chest is the memory of a posible incest and the fear that the NEW Angela has that she is going to get both discovered as a boy and raped by Paul ( In a similar way she did to her sister when he was still Peter )

This was a great episode. I started to listen before I saw the movie, but stopped so I could enjoy the insanity with them. I'm glad I waited to listen to the rest. I totally called that ending. What a crazy fucking movie. After, I went and watched Return to Sleepaway Camp. Do that one next. Get Ricky on and discuss the sequel. That movie is bananas as well. That fucking kid, Alan.

This is the first post I've made after loving HDTGM since discovering it only a month ago and it's also the first movie I had not heard of that you guys covered and I wanted to share.

 

I'm sure people have already done this, but after IMDBing the film I also learnt that star Fellisa Rose is back next year in a new would be hit movie entitled? Big Fat Ethel!!!!!

 

With the tag line "Kills for Meals"

 

I may save Sleepaway Camp for then and do a double bill as I have a feeling BFE will only get a limited cinema release.
