I just started listening, but I'm compelled to ask: is there a large trans-gendered community that listens to podcasts? I think Scott Aukerman also got a lot of flack when he used the term "trannies" on CBB. It just seems weird that there's that big of an audience that would be offended. Maybe it's just a couple people that are more vocal, but it still surprises me. I never hear any references to complaints from any other societal groups, for example, when the term "midget" gets used.(not that Who Charted has used the term, but I'm sure I've heard it used elsewhere without consequence).

No, it's absurd how PC the world is. What world do we live in where it isn't 'strange' that a male director becomes a female one and they go from brothers to starship. That isn't making any value judgement on their choice, but it certainly is strange.

 

Ugh, the PC thing again. Is it really that hard to be compassionate and understanding? Transgender people aren't just deciding on a whim to change sexes just cause it sounds fun. Most of them live their lives uncomfortable in their own skin not necessarily knowing how to deal with it. A lot of them just think there is something wrong with them and often end up committing suicide because they can't handle the pain of not fitting in to society. They know that there's enough people that will just call them "weird" and "freaks" if they actually do something to make their lives better and more livable.

 

But yeah, YOU'RE the one that's being persecuted because everybody's so "PC".

I didn't like the "strange" comment in the 100 episode, but it was clear Howard didn't mean anything by it. It was cool that he apologized, though, it was the right thing to do. This isn't the place for a big PC debate, but I agree with Andy Smith. Is it really so hard to avoid using offensive phrases or making rude comments that aren't even jokes in order to avoid causing harm to people? There is so much animosity towards those who are PC, but being PC is just generally being polite and open-minded... Nothing inherently evil in that.

 

Anyway, this was a great episode! I was unfamiliar with Baron Vaughn, but I thought he was great here, I'll have to check out his work. Can't wait to see Kulap on Parks tomorrow!

Thanks for the irrational response! I asked a question in a polite way, you responded in an insulting way. I realize one doesn't have to be part of a group to be insulted by comments, but it seems like someone who is upset by the term "trannie" would be a part of the transgendered community, or very close to it, to be so offended by such comments made on comedic podcasts. The other part of my comments, which you seemed to ignore, is that I was surprised that other comments that have been made on these podcasts that can be perceived as insensitive go by without any reference to anyone being insulted. I never implied that any group doesn't have the right to voice their concerns about insensitive remarks, but I thought it curious that the only times I've heard references to transgendered people, I also heard about am immediate backlash to those comments. And since transgendered people are a pretty small subset of the population, I thought the response seemed disproportionate.

 

Try to think before you respond next time. Your comments could justifiably be deleted due to their insulting nature.

'sup HK. as a transgender human, I wasn't offended last week, I ain't offended now, and it's cool that you apologized to the crew that seems to rise up every time someone's perceived to look sideways on a podcast at the trannies of the world.
