no film has ever made me laugh the way Wet Hot American Summer did, so that's my pick

i don't think 'everything' that needs to be said has been -- i think recontextualizing Tarkovsky's themes in 2016 is really interesting -- or maybe if it has, a vs would be nice. if they hadn't done a 400 blows episode, i could see 400 Blows vs Ivan's Childhood -- two feature debuts only a few years apart that follow the life of a child of about the same age -- Ivan makes 400 Blows look like Antoine had literally nothing wrong in his life though, they're just such different emotional journeys. and the first time i watched Andrei Rublev was split in two parts on my 13' desktop, but then soon after watched on a larger screen and made it way better my personal Tarkovsky rankings (minus The Sacrifice, and i've only seen Nostalghia and Solaris the one time) Mirror Andrei Rublev Stalker Nostalghia Ivan's Childhood Solaris all of which are classix

glad you'd nominate the mirror! of my top 10 favorite movies of all time, that's probably the one i've seen the least and thought about the most -- isn't that pretty canon-worthy on its own? maybe a vs episode of film geniuses at their most (?) abstract yet rewarding -- The Mirror vs Persona Persona seems more popular though, so maybe don't do it ;-)

thank god for netflix, this movie is absolutely lit, definitely gonna vote yes.

What are the most Canon worthy films of this decade?
Shrek & Donkey Kong replied to Llewellyn_Wells's topic in The Canon
The Tree of Life, The Master, The Social Network, Boyhood would be my four picks. not necessarily my four favorites of the decade so far (although all of those would be in my top 15 or so) but the four most important movies in terms of both culture and cinema itself. -
i'm so happy this episode exists, because it got me to watch They Live. and it is a YES. what a movie, my first john carpenter experience. the corny/flat out bad dialogue was so funny, and the action was fantastic. the prescience of the themes was fantastic -- the fact that this came out a year before the even more prescient Do The Right Thing is so shocking. People really need to listen to cinema lol

Episode 137 - SECRET PHONE CALL RELEASED BY BRETT
Shrek & Donkey Kong replied to agata's topic in Hollywood Handbook
i saw neal brennan in north hollywood today. weird since he famously stays on the west side (podcast 101). wanted to tell him that he should try to be on HOLLYWOOD HANDBOOK but then I remembered that I had to ask the waiter for my sausage and that talking across a resturuant is rude. also, as much as i love chapelle's show and the champs, half-baked is kind of trash. watched it a few months ago, longest 80 minutes of my life. -
Maybe a vs with some other creepy film from its era? I'd love a full episode on it though
