Episode 457 - Prepare for the Quake
Ahoy Fancy Pants replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
Michael Showalter is an enigma to me. I'm a big fan of so much of his work... I thought The Baxter was great, and Stella is genuinely one of the funniest things ever. But it's hard to know how to take him on CBB. I'm really not here to bash (or fat shame) the guy. I fully admit that it's possible that he has the world's driest sense of humor, and I'm not tuning into it. I did laugh several times at his unwillingness to play along, taking everything that Scott said at face value. On the Topics podcast, it was more clear that his humorlessness was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. It's more ambiguous here, and honestly it gives the episode some weird tension that's kind of fascinating. Of course, I'm only halfway through the episode... and he did just say that he loves the Transformers movies. So what do I know? I'm just posting on here to keep myself off of social media and away from the horrors therein! Cheers! -
I think we need to get Flower and Fourvel in the same room and see what happens.

Great ep. But how is it that they played more uninterrupted music by Rush than by the muuuusical guest herself? I did check out a couple tracks from Alcia Witt's album. Good stuff. Definitely can hear the Ben Folds influence. By the way, has Ben Folds ever been a guest on CBB? Seems to me that he'd be a good fit, and it sounds like Scott's a fan. After all, he quite impressively got the names of all of the members of Ben Folds Five correct... something he still hasn't been able to do with U2! (Bonobos indeed!)

My wife and I also watch Speakeasy every week. That's at least three viewers, Paul. Enough of your bellyaching! -
EPISODE 336 — NOT Farts and Procreation 4

Thank you, Scott, for allowing us to get to know Harris. I think losing him hurts in proportion to the amount of joy he brought us over the years, which is why this felt like such a blow to all of us. Having one last episode with Harris is a gift, and we're so lucky that it was recorded and you decided to release it. The fact that the episode is a bit of a mess yet everyone is having fun makes it kind of perfect. Keep bringing joy to a messy world! We need it!
