Musical Mondays Week 10 High School Musical 1 & 2...maybe 3
FisterRoboto replied to Cameron H.'s topic in How Did This Get Made?
Well, Kelsi hats >>>> Ryan hats. From HSM, the bowler is the clear winner. But if we open it up to HSM 2, there are a couple of contenders... (Also, I watched HSM 2 tonight, and it's....actually kind of better than the first. I have to agree with Cakebug on this one.) -

Our football team was on Team Cheerios my junior year. But we also did not have posters of them. (Also, I'm still laughing about "basketball couch") -

At this point, I never know if anyone means the actor from Boogie Nights or the lead in Teen Witch... -

Thanks, CakeBug and Ev! That's kind of what I figured, but I was like, "Maybe this is just something that happens, and I don't know about it." She's "swimming in a river of ham" as another podcast I listen to likes to put it. She just chews scenery for, like, 80% of the movie, and it's still better than anything Efron or Hudgens does. -

Related question for someone who never did theater stuff: Are pair auditions a thing? It struck me as a bit odd because they were picking their partner. I get why you would want people auditioning together, but it seems weird to be like, "Pick your own partner!" rather than the teacher saying, "Oh, I think person A was good, and person B was good, so let's see how they are together." -

It probably bothered me more than it should (but still less than that basketball practice) that it was an original song for that scene. Like, I get why it was done that way (song rights cost money, and it would probably be even worse if they did something in the public domain), but at the same time, the whole point of karaoke is to sing popular songs. This would have been a much better movie. -

I know this is a musical and things are heightened and don't always make a ton of sense. But the basketball practice sequence for "Get'Cha Head in the Game" drove me nuts. There is nothing practical about any of their practice. The coach and other players are so upset that Troy is spending so much time not practicing, but then they spend a full three minutes just dicking around singing this stupid song.- 629 replies

Musical Mondays Week 10 High School Musical 1 & 2...maybe 3

Why is Zac Efron in this movie? It's a musical about a guy who sings really well, but none of the singing is him. I would get it if Zac Efron had been a thing yet, but he totally wasn't. Why wouldn't they cast someone who could sing, act, and have pretty shag hair? Was it just his sweet basketball skills? -

From now on, when I need clarification on things, I'm going to ask people to explain it with farts. -

I'm excited for tomorrow. I have a lot of questions. -
Oh, I'm pretty sure I know exactly where you're going to go with it, and I 100% agree.

Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol (1987)
FisterRoboto replied to joel_rosenbaum's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
Judging from when you saw the trailer for Mission to Moscow, I'd say we're roughly the same age. That was the first one of these where I was like, "Is one of these movies bad?" I haven't watched Citizens on Patrol in probably 20+ years, but I remember liking it when I was a kid. But also, kids are dumb and like bad stuff. Maybe I shouldn't revisit it as an adult. -
Yessss! So glad you'll be here to talk with me about it! I went to see a Master Pancake showing of Independence Day: Resurgence (which is still the only way I've ever seen that movie and the only way I would recommend. It was at Alamo Drafthouse, so even though people are laughing and we're shouting our agreed-upon drinking phrase at the screen, the crowd is still usually pretty good. That is, until there were about 15 minutes left in the movie and a drunk guy about four seats down decides he's as funny as the MP guys. Basically, in order going down the row, there's me, a random dude, a random woman, and the loud guy (who was with the random woman). After a couple minutes, the dude next to me was like, "Can you please shut up?" Loud guy starts to argue with him, and then my friend and I were both like, "No, seriously, you need to shut the fuck up and let us watch the movie." A couple other people in the row join in, and he shuts up. After the movie as we're all signing our checks and shit, he basically tried to start a fight with the guy sitting next to me because he was "disrespecting" loud guy's girlfriend by telling him to shut the fuck up. It's the only time I've ever seen them physically remove someone from the theater, and it was glorious.

It's funny. I go see morning matinees on Saturdays all the time, and it's usually the kids that are better behaved than the parents. When i saw Beauty and the Beast a few weeks ago, there was a whole row of kids with one adult. There were two kids that were whispering, but they were directly behind me, and I could only barely hear them when the movie was totally quiet, so I didn't feel the need to shush them or anything. Meanwhile, I ratted out the mom to the Alamo staff because she kept pulling her phone out and turning on the fucking front light to read the menu. I saw Finding Dory at a Noon screening on the opening Saturday. The theater was packed full of kids. They were all quiet. Then I went to see another movie afterwards, and I had to shush the three women in their 50s sitting next to me.

He was on the "lost" Smurfs episode. And he's also been on for After Earth, Deep Blue Sea (one of my top 3 all-time favorite episodes, btw), and Lake Placid.

I meant to mention that, too, because I think Paul said during the xXx episode that they were wanting to do new movies more often because they had a lot of fans asking for it. I don't know how much pressure they got for it, but I do remember there being a post complaining that they weren't doing Furious 7 pretty much every time Paul announced a movie starting in April 2015 until they finally did it in September (confession: I probably made more than one of said posts). So I think it's a lot of balancing for them. I know not every movie is for me, and I find that I still enjoy episodes like Body Parts even when I skip the movie because I know I won't enjoy it. I think there are generally about 3-4 per year where I'm just like, "I'll pass" (sometimes because the movie doesn't seem like something I'll like, and sometimes because I just get busy and never get around to watching it). And you're definitely right that Musical Monday helps that week go by a bit more easily! ETA: Maybe I should just give up on the whole work thing.....

I think there are rare exceptions where the hosts revel in the trashiness of these movies. Face/Off and Con Air are great examples. The Sharknado series is another. And these are the others. The "How did this get made?" question is rhetorical, but generally, the point of the podcast is to talk about trashy movies. I love the F&F movies, but my love for them is rooted in their trashiness. So I do think they fit, and I enjoy hearing the hosts really enjoy a movie every now and then. I would disagree that they are trying to make "great and amazing" movies. I think they are really trying to make more and more over the top movies, and they are succeeding in that effort. Everyone comes to the podcast for different reasons, and personally, I'd rather watch this than sit through Runaway or Sleepwalkers again. But this is more my kind of "bad" movie. And others might be more inclined to watch Gene Simmons and His Killer Robots. And I think the hosts know they have a wide variety of fans that enjoy the podcast for different reasons. (And you shouldn't pay for it to participate in the discussion; you should pay for it because it's a fun as shit movie...or don't. I'm not the boss of you.) ETA: No, but for real now, I'm going back to work

I haven't seen the finale (those were some risky spoiler clicks), but I totally love that it's just a one-shot. Shows usually don't know when to give up, and I appreciate a brief, awesome story.

I like when people register accounts just to be gross.

Oh shit, y'all! Black Men Can't Jump in Hollywood is covering Fate of the Furious next week, too! It's one of my other favorite podcasts, and if y'all haven't given it a listen, I'd highly recommend checking their episode out next week (they come out midweek)

Are you sure it wasn't Shitstain and Honeynutz?

"Why didn't they spell it F8TE?" Because that would be "Fatete," Paul.
