That last scene in the trailer tho.... Hoky fuck I can't wait.

"Please Don't Joke About I, Robot This Christmas" is the absolute best, although next year, I'm hoping they'll write a song called "Is Dick Francis a Horse?"

Episode 152 - The 2nd Annual Howdies Pt. 2

I disagree. I think Jason wore blue jeans, a white Oxford, and a denim jacket with a tuxedo cut. -

The volume difference between the in-studio and live stuff is REALLY drastic. I had it playing over my sound bar while I was cooking, and I couldn't hear half the live eps (but the studio segments were already really loud). -

I hope they never explain the context of that voicemail to Pete Holmes. Because it's a thing of beauty in a vacuum. I watched Sunshine a month or two ago. I'm pretty sure I have a weird thing for Cillian Murphy now. -
That's a fucking great movie. Takashi Miike is one of my favorite Japanese filmmakers (along with Sion Sono and Hitoshi Matsumoto). I'm not a big fan of Ichi the Killer or Audition, but I like most of his other work - in large part because it's so fucking bizarre and varied. Last year, he put out a movie called Yakuza Apocalypse about yakuza vampires, and it's fucking awesome. My favorite Miike movie, though, is one called The Happiness of the Katakuris: It's a VERY loose remake of a South Korean film called The Quiet Family. Basically, a family opens up a bed and breakfast-type place, and everyone who stays with them ends up dying. It's hard to really describe what makes the movie so great, but it's a totally strange genre mishmash that works perfectly.

Musical Mondays-Week 1-Hedwig and the Angry Inch

For some reason, I NEVER remember that joke, even though I've seen this movie a dozen times. It's such a pleasant surprise when it comes around, and I laugh every time.- 29 replies

Dude. That's really weird. I watched that movie months ago, and I was talking about it today to my coworkers because they were talking about the drug that Jake was on that was supposed to make him feel sick when he drank booze. That's a really awesome story, and I love that doc so much!

I just got out of it, and I don't think it's THAT awful.

Episode 151 - The 2nd Annual HOWDIES Pt. 1

I hope they bring Cameron back and she just repeats "The penis is the least important part of sex" for an hour straight the same way Chirrut Imwe says (I spoiler-tagged that, but I don't really consider a spoiler. Just erring on the side of Rogue One caution) -
Count me firmly in the latter. The only things I found enjoyable about the movie were Michael Shannon (because he's the best) and Jake Gyllenhaal's hilarious accent.

Yeah, one of my friends actually got to see it when JCM was in it. He's the one that introduced me to the movie, and he told me that JCM did it to an audience member. That's so fantastic.- 29 replies

Episode 151 - The 2nd Annual HOWDIES Pt. 1
FisterRoboto replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Paul said in the ep that it would be 2 full eps and a mini for the Howdies, so I'm guessing the mini on Friday will be for the Howdies. However, I think it'd be cool if they combined them so that we could just go straight into another movie after the next Howdies without having another mini week (only because I'm really goddamn excited for the two movies they did at their show last Friday). Maybe the mini this week will be a Howdies for minis? Like, "Best Cameron H theory that was so long Paul read it at the end of the show" -
Musical Mondays-Week 1-Hedwig and the Angry Inch

I rewatched it a month ago or so (I double-featured it with Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, which is a fucking amazing combo), and this was kind of how I felt about it. I've seen Hedwig a bunch of times, but this was the first time I had that interpretation. I think she's neither and both at the same time. Like tomspanks said, she's both halves of the whole. I think it's a really interesting movie for that reason because it's one of the first that's embraced the idea of gender as a spectrum rather than a binary. Hedwig doesn't have to be one or the other because she's somewhere between, and she (a term I only continue using for convenience because Hedwig/Hansel presents as female for most of the film) ultimately learns to accept both her femininity and her masculinty.- 29 replies

I had a grade A rant typed out about how bullshit it was that they get their first female superhero movie and the first thing they decide to do is sexualize the shit out of her. While I'm glad that's the case, it's a shame to let such a good rant go to waste

Edit: Never mind. This appears to be fan-made. Filming hasn't even started.

I've only ever seen it online, and I think you might be right that they are trying to throw in something flashy to catch people's eyes on social media and get them to watch the whole trailer. Edit: Yep, I found a couple articles like this one that explain it pretty well: https://www.theverge.com/platform/amp/2016/4/22/11487410/movie-trailers-independence-day-jason-bourne

Y'all. La La Land. For real. It's my #1 for the year now. It was Manchester by the Sea, but La La Land is exactly the kind of movie I needed. It's straight up perfection from start to finish.

So, we've been talking about musicals a lot, and I mentioned that I'm wanting to see a bunch in January and that my RL friends and I are already coming up with a giant list. Cameron H suggested turning this into a forums game where we pick a musical and all watch it. Each week a different person gets to pick. What does everyone think? I want to get everyone's feedback before we start doing this, but my thought is that we just come up with a rotation. I'd like to start with a set group and then add new people as they might come along. So, for example, if you participate and want to join to suggest a movie, you get put at the end of the rotation. I like the idea of doing musicals on off-weeks. Maybe we announce it during the week and then start discussing on Monday? Weekends are my surefire time to get movies in, so that'd be my vote. We could either keep the list here on the forum or we could start up a Google doc with the rotation and upcoming/current film that I update every week. Y'all have any thoughts/suggestions? And just comment here if you want to join so I can put you in the rotation (obviously, Cameron H is in, since he's the one that brought up doing this). Side note: I'm really hoping this one I saw at Fantastic Fest called The Lure becomes more widely available, because everyone should see it. It's a Polish musical about man-eating mermaids that become nightclub singers. And it's fucking amazing.

Episode 151 - The 2nd Annual HOWDIES Pt. 1
FisterRoboto replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
One thing I noticed during the Howdies that I didn't catch during the episode was that during the Pete Holmes Award (which sounds weird to say outside of Doug Loves Movies), when Pete makes the "club sandwich" joke, someone in the audience just goes, "Oh god." And it's the most perfect thing ever. -
Everyone on social media is going on about the new Blade Runner trailer, but what's really important today is that THERE'S A NEW JOHN WICK TRAILER!

Musical Mondays-Week 1-Hedwig and the Angry Inch
FisterRoboto replied to Cameron H.'s topic in How Did This Get Made?
I'm curious if anyone watched this for the first time. I own it now and have watched it a few times at home by myself, but the first time I saw this was with a group of friends at a screening full of theater nerds. Since then, I try to see it whenever it's at Alamo Drafthouse (especially because they usually have a Hedwig cover band play after the movie). It's one of those movies that's just more fun when it's with a group. Also, Hedwig is starting a national tour tomorrow with the 2014 revival cast (except Darren Criss will be Hedwig, since that cast has had, like, 5 different Hedwigs). It's not coming to Austin, sadly, but it's coming a lot of other places!- 29 replies

This is part of why studio eps are my favorite. I love nothing more than listening to the three of them just talking and goofing around as friends.
