All I hear is, "I've missed you so much, Fister Roboto!"

Unpopular opinion: I didn't think The Invitation was all that great. I think it's because it was marketed as kind of a shocking movie, when I thought it was incredibly straightforward. The cinematography is definitely beautiful, but everything is pretty much telegraphed 30 minutes before it happens. It was kind of a bummer because I really like Kusama. ETA: That ending shot was pretty legit, though.

Two things about this: Someone tells that dude, "It's just a click of a mouse to you." Then he pressed a button on his tablet to turn it off. No one is using fucking mice in this reality. Like, why isn't the line, "It's just a push of a button to you"? ALSO, I kind of wanted him to walk over and pull a comically large plug out of the wall to shut it off. It would have redeemed any lacking parts of this movie for me.

But they are controlled by another person, so really, the person controlling them would be the hardcore killer. The bigger problem I see is with the idea of death row in general. Since 1973, 144 people on death row have been exonerated, which is 1.6% of death row inmates. However, some studies suggest that it might be closer to 4%, which would be roughly 1 in every 25 death row inmates. That means that at least a few of the playable characters are innocent (including, apparently, Kable), but worse than that, it means a significant chunk of the NPCs are just innocent people there as cannon fodder for dumb rich kids.
-
I think Kable is the one the show is promoting because the narrative of "murdery criminal fights 30 games to win freedom" is more easily marketable than "spoiled rich kid controls human plaything." But, yeah, there's that scene where Simon is in his weird 360 computer room, and he's getting all the random messages from people, so he definitely has his own celebrity status. And I don't know that the show ruined his reputation as much as just the news that he used an illegal mod that would have given him an unfair advantage. In competitive gaming, cheaters aren't very popular. I remember a controversy over a team beating a final boss in a very popular MMO several years ago. They used a game-breaking exploit to get the world first kill. When their method was revealed, people were like, "Fuck those guys," and that group's kill was revoked and given to someone else. And that's in a game where there wasn't anything on the line other than bragging rights. So I could see other gamers turning on them, which is who all those "Fuck you, cheater" messages were from.

RAVENCLAW BROS! I'm Ravenclaw with a Nebelung Cat patronus. Are you supposed to be allergic to your patronus? Because I am.

I knew what you meant, but I think the answer you got was better than a straight one about the question you meant.

Episode 140 - Mannequin Two: On the Move (w/ Steve Agee)
FisterRoboto replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
True, but the guests aren't really exciting, so HDTGM still comes first. If it was, like, a Samm Levine or Geoff Tate episode, things might be different. -

It's a good thing there wasn't a new DLM today, too, or it might be, like, Wednesday before I listen. -
Episode 140 - Mannequin Two: On the Move (w/ Steve Agee)

I haven't listened to the episode yet (Mondays are a heavy podcast day, and right now, Blank Check's Cameron Crowe series is more exciting to me), but I can't fucking believe Steve Agee hasn't been on before now. I had to go check the episode list on Wikipedia to be sure. It's kind of like when Mulaney was on; it's such a natural and obvious guest that it's insane they haven't been on already so you convince yourself they have. -
I fucking cringed every time he said "magical realism." Dude, you're not fucking Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Fuck off with that. Just say you made a shitty movie.
-
Yeah, but Daruma and Tatsu-ya are the only good ones.

There's one in Lewisville on FM 3040 at...I want to say Valley Pkwy (or at least there was when I lived up there). And there was one right on 35 as you come into Denton, which is where we used to get kegs when I would go party with my UNT friends. And can we talk about the weirdest fucking question? What the shit?

Yeah, I got Fort Worth, Irving, and Arlington for the three most similar cities.

It's the Northern Cities Vowel Shift.

To be fair, "emo" started out as a term to describe a kind of hardcore. Rites of Spring is generally considered one of the first - if not the first - emo bands (although RoS refuses any association with emo). It was originally called emotive hardcore before being shortened to emo-core and, eventually, emo. Early emo was influenced by stuff like Black Flag and Minor Threat. Then angsty kids in the suburbs picked it up in the 90s and turned it all to complete shit.

"We're not eating to bloating." Well then, Paul, you're not fucking eating, buddy.

I was going to make this exact same joke. I can't believe it took any of us this long to get there.
