There's a documentary called Room Full of Spoons all about The Room and revealing some of the mystery behind Tommy Wiseau. It's premiering in Madrid this weekend. There's a really interesting article on HuffPo about it: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/tommy-wiseau-origin_us_56a11990e4b0d8cc1098fdb8 My question is: do you think it's possible to delve "too far" into these bad movies? Like, is there a point where it just kind of ruins the fun? Have there been any movies yet where you've gone too far down the rabbit hole and then been like, "Well, that was kind of disappointing to find out"?

Episode 128 - Streets of Fire: LIVE!

Thanks for the tip! I'm familiar with the manga and have read the first couple omnibus volumes, but I haven't seen any of the films. I'm relatively new to discovering the weird/awesome world of Japanese cinema, and I love most of what I've seen from the 60s and 70s. I just saw that there are 6 Lone Wolf and Cub movies, so those all went on the list for sure -

It's so quiet today! In lieu of a new minisode, tell me what y'all have watched recently. I saw a double feature of the Lady Snowblood movies last night. It was awesome. Basically, just three hours of this: Tonight, I'm going to see Lazer Team (the first movie from Rooster Teeth - aka: the guys that did Red vs Blue and RWBY), and then I'm finally getting to see Room tomorrow. I'm also going to try to work in about 6 more movies over the weekend to get caught up on the DLM Challenge I was either traveling or sick for the first few weeks of the month, so I got a bit behind. But I want to be back on track by the end of the month. Soooo, this is really just a not-so-subtle way of asking y'all to tell me some cool shit you've seen that I should check out. -

Yeah, but did you know that the adhesive is on the WRONG SIDE of the maxi pad?! -

Fun fact: if you had searched just on this page, you would have found the name "Steinman" already mentioned 8 times before you posted. -

Yeah, the only connection to Tyler is that Steinman wrote most of Tyler's songs and Nowhere Fast. -

I think Paul retired the Nic Cage question a month or two ago. I know he was looking for new segments, but I think he was getting tired of it. -

Her abject poverty clearly doesn't mean as much to him as making a dramatic gesture to Billy Fish and Ellen Aim. -

I didn't even know this was a show. Like people in the audience, I thought Jason was talking about Renegade from the 90s. -
Cameron is always pretty good with coming up with some fun, random questions for us to chat about whenever threads are starting to die down and we're waiting for the new ep/minisode. I'm going to borrow one of those and expand a bit on it because I thought it was fun to hear everyone's answers last time. What was your favorite HDTGM movie to watch? What was your favorite movie to discuss on the podcast? Have there been any movies that almost turned off? Have there been any movies where you started watching and thought "Oh shit. What are we going to talk about with this?" (either because you enjoyed the movie or because it was just boring bad instead of fun bad) Aaaaand finally, not counting Nic Cage, who's your favorite HDTGM All-Star? Is there one person that you see is in a movie that gets you all amped up? (And big thanks to Dan for getting this thread going!)

I hadn't watched any of their videos before, but I just watched the first two minutes of their review of The Revenant, and it's probably the first review of that movie I've agreed with. Sooooo, they're off to a good start.

PFT did this really well in his Ask Paul thread that's pinned at the top of the Spontaneanation forum. He started getting a bunch of people asking if X or Y person was going to be on, and he finally said something to the effect of, "This is the last time I'm answering this because eventually someone's going to ask about someone I don't want to invite, and I don't want to sound like a jerk."
-
Thanks, Paul! I'm glad you were able to give us your perspective (or second opinion, if you will) and answer some of our questions around the Blake articles. Also, as someone who was shamed in an ep, I know it's all in good fun. But Streets of Fire still isn't a musical

I really wanted it to be fun, but I really felt that after they save Ellen from Torchie's, it just got really boring and never really recovered until the sledgehammer fight. -

That's because Jim Steinman wrote it, who also wrote all Meat Loaf's albums for about 20 years. Also, speaking of the music, the song they play at the end as they're arriving at the big fight is "Rumble" by Link Wray. You might recognize it from Pulp Fiction, Independence Day, Blow, or...a deleted scene from The Warriors. -

I'm doing the DLM Challenge this year, so I'm probably going to check out The Warriors as part of it. And now I'll probably add Near Dark to it as well. -

Since she's singing Jim Steinman songs, isn't she more like Bonnie Tyler?
