God, I wish there was a way for gifs to translate in an auditory medium because this gif is my favorite thing to have come out of a HDTGM thread pretty much ever, and I wish the non-forum people could enjoy it as much as we have. And, given how I love these threads almost as much as I love the show:

EPISODE 20 - Death Valley
FisterRoboto replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
This is definitely my favorite episode since Savannah, GA. Colleen's characters keep getting weirder and weirder, and I love it. I am a bit disappointed that Paul called The Big Lebowski overrated, though. -
From the oral history over at Slashfilm (it's the Animal Trainer speaking here): And I think they set out to make a kids' movie, but they really didn't know wtf they were doing. In that same article, the movie's Editor says something about how they were basically trying to build off of the success off Sidekicks and to take Norris' career in a different direction. And I guess you could say they were successful in at least one of those goals.

True story: I got home from work today, and my asshole dog managed to get my refrigerator open using the towel I keep on the door handle. He even ate the food I had sitting in the fridge to cook tonight, which was....yeah, chicken. I guess I'm changing his name to Reno now.

This is similar to what Cameron and I were discussing a couple pages back. It's pretty irresponsible to give him a dog/force a dog on him, especially considering the obvious disdain he has for it.

You're exactly right. Funny thing about the Fourth Amendment. It actually protects citizens against exactly the kind of unreasonable search and seizure that Norris performs. Not only would any evidence he found there be inadmissible in court, any clues that he found there which potentially led him to other evidence would be inadmissible because it's "fruit of the poisonous tree."

I'm sure we'll find a reason to repost this every couple pages. And if not, let's do it anyway. I can never get enough of this gif.

In the movie's defense, before cordless phones became common, it wasn't too unusual to plug in a phone in one place and have an extra long cord so that you could use the phone in various rooms in the house. That's particularly the case if you lived in older homes that only had a phone jack in the kitchen or the main living room. I honestly don't remember it being that common still in 1995, but it was definitely a thing in the 80s.

That's pretty much the case at most Texas crossings, too. I mean, it's still more than a shitty barricade and a couple of police cars, but going into Mexico is nothing. Coming out of Mexico is fucking ridiculous sometimes. I didn't notice a big difference. I did notice there seemed to be more noise and chatter, but I chalked that up to having been recorded on an iPhone instead of on real equipment. Also, the first question came right out and asked if the dog was driving a car, which was one of my #1 questions.

Cam Bert, I'm sold on the title alone.

Also, the HDTGM twitter account already shared this, but I thought I'd put it here, too, because I know some of you might not be on Twitter and want to read it. Here's the oral history thing from /Film that Paul mentioned in the ep (I thought it was a really interesting read): http://www.slashfilm.com/top-dog/

I thought about this a lot, too. Like, it made sense in Turner and Hooch (at least, more so than here) because there was literally no one else to watch over this dog that was the only witness to the murder. Why the hell couldn't the dog go live with BMX kid (also, where the fuck are BMX kid's parents for the whole movie)? Or the other lady cop that seemed to really love this dog? Why would you stick him with someone that clearly hated the dog? What kind of city official would be like, "Yeah, you clearly hate this dog, so I'm going to put you two together in what is clearly an unsafe environment for this animal."

Guys, what if the mom thought Chuck Norris didn't know enough about history, so she orchestrated the entire terrorist plot just to make him learn about Hitler?

EPISODE 115 — Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!
FisterRoboto replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Holy shit! If only about a dozen people had already made almost this exact comment in this exact thread! That would be bonkers! -
There were actually a few I was going to make from Top Dog (you already posted one of the dog being thrown in the water, which was one of them), but I just started a new job and haven't had time yet. Maybe I'll do it over the weekend since I don't have an episode to listen to.

If you check out the pictures from each episode, he wears them during the podcast, but it looks like he takes the jacket off (probably because they're in a tiny room without great circulation and doesn't want to sweat the entire time he's recording)

People who record stuff by holding their phone at their tv deserve a punch in the face.

He's the real HDTGM All-Star. If you guys remember the dude that mentioned the voices of Tokka and Rahzar in TMNT 2 live episode and then listed off all the other HDTGM movies he'd been in (e.g., the parrot noises in Deep Blue Sea and the dog in Hudson Hawk), all of those were also Frank Welker. How can we get Welker on an episode?
-
Well, as someone else pointed out, only Norris' mom seems to know that it's on April 20, even though "it's in all the history books!"
-
Close. Little brother.

I have such a long laundry list of things I want to talk about, but I want to hear what they cover in the episode first. The main thing I hope they talk about is how thoroughly unlikable Chuck Norris is in this movie. Turner & Hooch is definitely the archetype of this genre (and this movie came out six years after T&H), and this movie does everything wrong character-wise that that movie did right. I mean, having an affable lead definitely helped T&H, but Norris is just such an asshole, even his pseudo-redemption scenes with the dog fell flat. The other big thing is that this is quite possibly the worst police department ever. They know these Nazis are planning something huge and literally none of them go, "Huh, I wonder if it will be this giant-ass diversity appreciation festival the city has planned" until the very last minute.

I'm normally very June-like when it comes to animal violence. I don't handle it well, particularly when it's dogs. That said, I lost my shit when they threw the dog overboard. It so cartoonish that it's hilarious. It looks so much like the scene in Anchorman where Jack Black punts Baxter off the bridge.
-
I'm so glad I'm not the only one that enjoyed this. I really thought something was wrong with me, because I had a blast with this movie. I watched the dog/kid costume montage at the fair thing about ten times, and it was hilarious every time, especially when the dog drives off in the car at the end, and the kid just shakes his head like, "Oh that wacky dog!"
-
Guys. This fucking movie. It's amazing. It's basically a shittier Turner & Hooch, and every scene is hilariously bad. I don't know who saw Chuck Norris and thought he had amazing comedic chops, but they almost certainly don't have a career anymore. Also, there's totally a chase scene with a Ford Taurus station wagon. I was on the fence about watching this one, but I'm so glad I did. Edit: Oh, and I forgot to mention that there are Nazi clowns.

I just remembered that this was one of the live shows they did last month. So I'm guessing we'll get Theodore Rex soon, too, since that was the other movie, which should be pretty exciting/terrible/wonderful. I also started looking at the calendar, and Furious 7 comes out on Blu-Ray on Sep 15. That means we'll hopefully see something like this: Aug 7 - Top Dog Aug 21 - Theodore Rex Sep 4 - something else Sep 18 - Furious 7? I've been holding out hope that they have the episode recorded and are just waiting until it's more easily accessible to release it, since they weren't able to get their schedules to work during the theater window.
