2nd ANNUAL HOWDIES - COMING SOON & WE NEED HELP
JackChristensen replied to paulscheer's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Best Guest Laugh: Without a doubt, Chelsea Peretti! [LOL Live appropriately enough] I was actually texting with a friend about just her laugh when that episode came out. -
Speaking of, am I the only one who got a little too excited to see Leela's and Amy's butts on Futurama? Butt seriously, saying they should cast a different actress who is prettier drives me fucking insane! I'm tired of women's careers depending on their looks. it's disgusting. Sure, Tom Cruise [sorry Amy Nicholson] and Brad Pitt would no doubt be nobodies if they weren't so gorgeous, but come on. There's yet another sitcom on TV where Kevin Fucking James is married to a thin, good-looking wife. You don't see the opposite on TV very often; at least not in the States.

I also watched part of the director's cut on Netflix this last weekend. I was thinking how perfect it would be for the show, but it ultimately might be too boring. I shut it off about halfway through to salvage what was left of a RARE night alone [i have kids] and fell asleep to What About Bob? I couldn't decide if Cronenberg's performance was an acting choice to make the psychiatrist/serial killer character purposefully flat and empty, or if it just demonstrated a profound lack of skill.

This is a funny movie.

OK. I no shit, 100% legit LOVE this movie. It's one of my favorite movies ever made. But it would be PERFECT for the show.

Episode 65 — Howard the Duck: LIVE!
JackChristensen replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I've been going back and listening to back episodes all week. Interesting to hear the evolution of the show. Started out at a 35-minute show. Jason's persona at first was of "This movie was so bad I'm ANGRY!" June's crazy theories didn't start until a few episodes in. A guest tells her that she's so funny when she tries to figure this ridiculous stuff out, and I think it just took off from there. I love Kristen Schaal. She's so sexy in a pretty unconventional way. -

Twins is one of those movies that I legit LOVE, despite realizing it's not a great movie.- 6 replies

Episode 147.5 - Minisode 147.5
JackChristensen replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Bite your tongue! Sleepaway Camp is one of my favorite movies. Yes, everything they say in the episode is true and it is DEEPLY flawed; but I don't think it's just inept, incompetent film-making. -
Bonus Episode: The Empire Strikes Back: Controversy Averted

Episode 26 — Jingle All The Way
JackChristensen replied to admin's topic in How Did This Get Made?
It's a few days after Halloween, but I don't think it's too soon to go back and listen to this one again. After seeing this one [like five years ago on video] I told a friend of mine that it might be the worst movie I've ever seen. Great episode. I like it when they do a movie I've already seen and thought was terrible {Dreamcatcher being a perfect example}. -
I looked it up, and there is no Teen Witch 2. Perhaps Emily Gordon was thinking of Teen Wolf Too [a movie that would actually be great for he podcast].

Episode 146.5 - Minisode 146.5
JackChristensen replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Some time after my first kid was born (maybe my wife was pregnant with number 2? No, I don't mean a "food baby") I cried at the end of Robocop, when someone asks what he name is and he smiles and says "Murphy." I mention the kids because I noticed myself becoming a lot more emotional when she was pregnant and even afterward. Sympathetic hormonal changes, I think. Like, my body reacting to the pheromones she's giving off. -
Episode 146.5 - Minisode 146.5
JackChristensen replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
No, but Critters 2 is 100% an Easter flick. -
Listening back to this episode, because there's no Halloween episode this year. Blew right past me in previous listens, but June uses the phrase "prison brain." As in, was it the brain of a serial killer or some sort of "prison brain" that is used in the experiment. That is hilarious. That is all.

24 Hour Party Pizza, you have maybe the best screen name on this board. -

I consider both Nightmare Before Christmas and Gremlins to be Christmas movies, and in my house they are treated as such. -
Episode 146.5 - Minisode 146.5

I rented it a few years ago. I thought it was OK, but all the reviews and mentions of it I was seeing were all raves so my expectations were high. -
I haven't seen Bully, but I also heard him on the B.E.E. Podcast and Ellis kept referring to it as his greatest film [and he's even seen the little-viewed-in-the-US Ken Park]. I really need to see that one. I went to Clark's website and there was an ad for his latest exhibition, and there was a large tapestry of images from the show in the ad. There was a bunch of pictures of Brad Renfro shooting up and with blood dripping down his arms. Gave me a really weird and unpleasant feeling seeing that, but I guess that's what great art can do.

Movies about kids? Movies for kids? How about Larry Clark's Kids? I think this film is definitely Canon material, for both film-making and also for controversy/ cultural impact.
-
I feel like it would be a no-brainer that it goes to Trainspotting. I love 28 Days Later for what it is (at the time it was a new zombie film when there hadn't been one in years and years), but I don't consider it a great film. It's pretty hard to argue against Trainspotting being a great film.
-
I haven't seen this one. Only The Badlands.
-
I feel the same way. I hope everyone involved can sort through their personal stuff on this. I hope the show can continue some day. Ideally with everyone.
-
I'm starting this episode for at least the fourth time [lost count]. This may be the quintessential HDTGM film. Bravo!

Homework: Welcome to the Dollhouse (1995)

I was ready to vote 'yes' also. Solondz calls his films "sad comedies." Very gut-wrenching. I haven't seen anything post-Storytelling. Heather M. grew up to be very pretty.
