  1. DAMMIT! I had a C+ joke queued up about Elon Musk being inspired to start Space X after seeing the end of Dragonheart.

I think from a high level view Dragonheart was a pretty good candidate. A kids movie with a lot of murder and an attempted rape and plenty of world building inconsistencies. But from a minute to minute view maybe not ridiculous enough.

Well as Bill Belichick would say on to The Boy Next Door. Hopefully he is an HDTGM listener.

  2. This was a fantastic episode. Tom was one of the quieter guests but all of his input was great.

I'd say my biggest issue not addressed in the podcast was the relationship between Mother and his secretary. At the end of the movie she is hand feeding him cookies. In an earlier scene she is standing behind him massaging/caressing his shoulders while he is speaking. I need to know more about what they've got going on.

The fact that Father's blindness only came into play during a croquet game was a nice little extra dash of nuts into this movie. And what was the point of that scene? To show that Connery is not only the big villain he is also the petty villain?

I will say for all of this movies many many failings I think it can actually work as a pretty solid comedy if every time someone says "Steed" you imagine they are saying "Steve" instead. That is how I misheard it at first. Steve is fairly low on my scale of funny names. But said as they were saying Steed it becomes excellent.

  3. I would say up to this point I think everything Hayes and Sean have ever said on HH is good and right and sometimes funny but that isn't the point to be funny they are just trying to help people out.

So I don't know how they could be so wrong about the pronunciation of Bunnicula. #TeamDaly #HayesAndSeanBadReadingGuys

Here's the thing, I'm having a real problem with this one--like, just paying attention-wise. The quote I mentioned above was close to making it, but...I felt like it was maybe a little to creepy to make the grade as "Official Cameron H movie quote." I was actually leaning more to one of the more banal lines to underline the stupid ways this movie tries to sound smart.

However, if you all want to give me some quotes, we can make my signature a forum effort this time.

I believe the line "I think I'm seeing double." or some slight variation on that was said about 15 times in the movie. I think the screenwriter would vote for that line.

  5. The director had planned to have several stages of mutation. Some light ones, where only a part is frog, and some full frogs. So I think they supposed to be humans.

If that is the case then I'd say it was a real missed opportunity to not explore some relationships between those who mutated to frogs and those who didn't. Friends and families now living in two separate worlds. The filmmakers could have made this thing Oscar bait.

  6.

Here's the problem with that, too. They say in the movie that something like 68% of men are infertile. Okay, fine. Let's go ahead and increase that to 75%. So, even if I increase the percentage of infertile people, that still leave 25% (1 in 4) still fertile. I know that's not great, but it's not exactly a deal breaker either. He's not really as rare as the movie portrays him.

Let's say there's a million people left in the world. I wager that the 250,000 still fertile people left could adequately repopulate the planet.

I hate to defend this movie. I think they said 68% of the male population died. And almost everyone who survived is infertile.

So I have a question about the origin of the frog people. Were these once normal human beings who got mutated into frog creatures? Or were they frogs who went through the classic "ninja turtle" mutation model into bipedal intelligent creatures? I think it was the second one. Which I would say is another big big mark against the Provisional Government. Out of this war comes the most amazing thing to happen in the history of science and they just treat this newly intelligent species like crap and throw them on a reservation.

Yeah, when I was listening to it I was like, "ChunkStyle--what a fucking asshole!" ;)

But honestly, I think you all are being too harsh. Fortunately for me, he hasn't "egariously" butchered any of mine in a long time, but I still feel like it's a badge of honor for Paul to mutilate your posts. I've been re-listening to all the minis for nominees for the Howdy's (I don't feel right nominating any of my own) and I still cringe at his read of my LOL post. It was tragic. But, it's all in good fun. I still just think it's cool that he, Nate, or Marissa think any of my stupid bullshit is even worthy to be read.

Yes my comment was very tongue in cheek it is always fun regardless. And now with the Paul Ask phone line there is no way to complain. If you don't trust Paul to deliver your message you can do it yourself.

  8. Just don't try. All the ones Paul's ever read from mine have been ones that I thought were really stupid when I was writing them. And the ones where I was like, "OH SNAP I'M ONTO SOMETHING!" disappeared into the ether.

So, just like in life, it doesn't pay to try.

    For anything.

    Ever.

I'm with Fister. Mine that he read for this minisode he was dropping out words, cutting out jokes, and making me sound like a real asshole. Which is accurate. But I don't need any help with that.

That's interesting! Looking online, I had only seen 'Chicani' but 'Tchigani' seems right. If I can't trust AFI Catalogue of Films, who can I trust? http://www.afi.com/m...?s=&Movie=57475

This is from Roger Ebert's 2 star reveiw:

"One of the camps is inhabited by the Tchigani, descendants of Chicanos, and that leads to one of the movie's several inadvertently hilarious moments. One of the heroes is a Latin who travels with a tame owl. The leader of the settlement questions him: Leader: "What is your name?" Boy: "I call myself 'Death Star.' " Leader: "Does that owl belong to you?" Boy: "As much as an owl can belong to any man." Leader: "You are Tchigani!" The next shot shows the settlement's symbolic sculpture, rather unfortunately surmounted by a hubcap."

I don't know what I love more...that he calls him Death Star or that he calls him "A Latin". As a kid, I could have sworn it was Dark Star.

Maybe Roger had to hit the bottle sometimes to review some of these films. I can say with experience most HDTGM movies go better with a drink.

The name Chicani, for me, channeled Chicano, a somewhat ambiguous Mexican-American cultural identity. For many the term is used as a point of pride, but in the past it has held negative connotations. One example of derogatory use would be wealthier Mexican-Americans using Chicano as a pejorative to describe those of a lower social standing.

For what it is worth according to the movie subtitles it was Tchigani.

  11. However, speaking of birds, the world of Solarbabies seems to be lousy with them. What are they drinking? I mean, I get that they're birds and probably don't need as much water as, say, a human, but doesn't there have to be some sort of water source for them nearby? Why can't Darstar use his avian hypnotism powers to train a bird to show them where some water is?

I will freely admit that finding a glowing telepathic ball should be the #1 topic of conversation. But I feel like if I was Daniel I would have thrown in a "Hey, not for nothin', but I found Bodhi in a pool of water in a big cave with water dripping from the ceiling. Might be a lot of water over there."

  12. So has Bodhi done something of note on Earth before? It would seem so because for there to be a legend about it Bodhi must have done some big stuff in the past. But what did it do exactly? The Sand Nazis seem pretty knowledgeable about it so were they fighting against Bodhi in year 0? That opening voice over says he will return to "free the waters once again". I could read that as Bodhi will free the water a 2nd time OR Bodhi, for the 1st time, will free the water to make it as it once was. The latter makes more sense but either way I am still very confused.

What I am driving at is in addition to Solarbabies: Rogue One we are also going to need Solarbabies: Episode 0 :: The Sandy Menace to explain Bodhi's past deeds and the rise of the Protectorate.
