100% onboard with you on this one. Loved the music. Especially Massive Attack, and that song playing during the "spinning phone box" hack scene. The Matrix totally ripped this off.

Just wondering if we need to consider inducting Fisher Stevens into the HDTGM Hall of Fame/Shame. So far he's been in: Super Mario Bros LOL and now, Hackers. That's a quality acting reel.

I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned Jasons' cameo.

Adjusting for inflation, that puts it at about $55 million (in todays dollars). Not astronomical by any stretch, but considering Forest Gump, Captain Phillips and the Kill Bill movies were all made on budgets of approximately $55 million, you'd have to think that the investors might feel a little short changed by the results. It's listed as grossing $11.6 million at the box office.

I really enjoyed "Wild Wild West" as one of the earlier gems. Kevin Smith was such a great guest and had some amazing behind-the-scenes stories. Although, I have to say that June's Monkeyshines breakdown was what made me fall in love with this podcast.

I was thinking they could do a segment called "Bizarro World Oscar Noms" (surely someone can come up with a better name than that). Basically the guys invent a category for the Oscars in which pretty much only this movie would ever win, let alone receive a nomination. Examples. "Best use of a Betamax reference in a Horror/Comedy Flick" - Outdated Fit Guy - Death Spa "Best Supporting Actor - 3 to 4 lines of dialogue" - Comedic Relief Guy - Death Spa "Outstanding Cameo by an Actor/Actress who obviously made several poor career choices" - Tied: Karyn Parsons & Chelsea Fields. Thoughts?

I think that is probably giving this film WAY too much credit. The general nature of the Beta vs VHS argument was about the Quality and price. Betamax was considered a higher quality product, in both construction and recording, but cost significantly more to purchase. VHS was the cheaper alternative which became more widely accepted as an entry level option. In short, Beta was better, VHS was cheap. The worst part for this one-liner is that Beta was pretty much dead by 1988 (two years before the US release of this movie). If this movie had come out a few years earlier, audiences be like

Merritt Butrick aka David. I've never understood that weird hybrid accent of his. Turns out Death Spa was his final film. He died in 1989 before this film was released. What an homage!

MATHS TIME!!!! (prepare yourselfâŠ. This is a little long) In response to the whole self-immolation thingo that Paul raised, I thought I'd run the numbers on what it would take to turn a human being into unrecognisable ash. The average american woman weighed 141.7 pounds (aged between 20-29 for the 1988â94 date range) (from the 2002 CDC Report on Body Weight & BMI) The average temperature required to ensure disintegration of a body in modern crematorium conditions is 1700 degrees Fahrenheit (1600-1800 normal operating temperature) The fastest burning time under ideal conditions is 110 pounds per hour Based on these numbers it would take 1 hour 17 mins to roast this sucker. So...... Gasoline burning temperature, while difficult to nail down specifically based on conditions, could be estimated to burn at approximately 1733 degrees Fahrenheit The problem is that the fuel source wouldâve burnt out in a very short space of time. Most likely under 30 mins. More than likely Catherine started a grasslands fire as a result of this act. Grassland fires can burn between 1472-1832 degrees Fahrenheit. However, they move too quickly at about 25km per hour to keep one area burning for the required amount of time. TLDR. The fire couldnât possibly have burned for long enough under the conditions for Catherine to have been turned into unrecognisable ash. As an interesting point of reference. ThĂch QuáșŁng Äức, the Self-immolation monk (Vietnam 1963) had to be re-cremated after the act. Most of his body remained intact. Possibly still recognisable, but definitely not ash. My Theory. Whoever pushed her up to the top of that hill probably stoked the fire halfway through to keep her going. Because, fuck Catherine. Suspects: Michael, because Catherine was cramping his style with all her wheelchair-iness Laura. So she could have Michael all to herself David. Because, according to this movie, twins are evil and weird. That barracuda from the freezer.

I'm a bit nervous about prempting the podcast, but. ..... Groin-O-Vision!

I think it's the subtlety of this movie that I appreciated the most http://imgur.com/PNFr5rE

Great doco. Can we just do their entire back catalogue? Canon belong in the HDTGM hall of fame alongside Cage & Travolta.

I think I've got PTSD from those shorts!

Strongly Agree. Had to watch this over half a dozen sittings. Just got bored. I kept looking for all this hidden deeper meaning to it all, like thinking Jamie Lee Curtis was Mackenzies sister or something, but nope..... it's just a one-dimensional snooze fest. Also wouldn't recommend the 5 min workout scene where Travolta and Curtis are just thrusting their hips at each other. Jesus, we get it! They've been playing "Special Places"

My Top 5 Episodes: 1. Furious 7 2. The Island of Dr. Moreau 3. Jupiter Ascending 4. Con Air 5. Deep Blue Sea My Top 5 Movies: 1. Furious 7 2. Tango and Cash 3. Hercules in New York (but only because of that Bear fight) 4. Con Air 5. Face Off Some solid eps this year. And I really appreciate how they've been mixing it up lately with some crazy old school movies. Hercules in New York was intense, especially watching the version where they dubbed Arnie. Definitely the highlight has to be the Furious franchise stuff they're doing. So much fun because they are all 100% committed to it. Except June, who may or may not have actually watched any of these movies. Seriously can't wait for Fastest and Furiousest 8.

EPISODE 120 - Masters of the Universe

Guys..... come on...... Where's talk about all the Richard Szponder aka Pigboy? He's a contest winner FFS! Where's his parade? -
EPISODE 120 - Masters of the Universe

Universal Soldier was a glaring omission from that list, although to be fair, it did make a tonne of money and was probably one of Dolph and JCVDs best movies. Should be part of the alternate reality "Thank God This Got Made" podcast series, like "Con Air" and "Face Off" -
EPISODE 119 - Maximum Overdrive: LIVE!

I would 100% see that ending. Let's crowdfund 10 grand, score a couple 8-balls and find Stephen King for some reshoots. -
EPISODE 119 - Maximum Overdrive: LIVE!

MATHS TIME!!! Bit of talk on the podcast on the refueling scene and how everyone was flaking out. To put in in perspective, A Truck Stop of this size will hold on average 45,000 gallons of diesel onsite (not including back up tanks) Your average mid-sized 18 Wheeler will hold 290 gallons of diesel This means there is enough fuel to top up 155 trucks With a high flow pump, it would take on average 15 mins to top up each truck. Not counting for changeover of trucks, that makes 2325 mins (38.79 hours) of total fueling time Given that it appears they are running 4 pumps at the same time during the epic fueling montage, that accounts for 9.7 hours at the pump. In 90-100 degree weather, that puts them at extreme risk of heat related illness (heat stroke or heat exhaustion). This makes this the most accurate and well thought out scene in the whole movie. Probs ran out of coke that day. TLDR. Fueling trucks in 95 degrees for nearly 10 hours. Emilio flaked out from heat stroke.- 384 replies

Had to double check myself. It is definitely a manual, as if Dominic Toretto would ever be caught dead driving an automatic. You can see him with a foot on the clutch as he pumps the brake with his other foot. The car also definitely shifts up a gear and is accelerating during that cut away, while Dom is trying everything to stop it. Although, come to think of it, he doesn't try using the E-brake/parking brake, which seems like an obvious choice rather than accelerating through to the next building.
-
Point of Minor Annoyance (and even less interest) In the Car-Jump-Between-Buildings stunt, when Dom starts pumping on the brakes to stop the car after the first jump, there is a cut away to the outside of the car which clearly has the sound effect of the car accelerating and changing gears. Cut back into the car and Dom is still stomping on the brakes (in his shiny black, tuxedo suitable, combat boots) before he declares that they have no brakes. It's the car equivalent of the magical movie motorbike riders that can change gears without moving their hands. Possibly just poor editing, but FFS this is supposed to be a movie about cars (and family)(and rampant homo eroticism), surely they could get something like stupid sound effects right?
-
Running the maths on the car lift. The Lykan Hypersport is a Mid-Rear engine design, which means the bulk of the engine weight is just in front of the rear wheels, which turns this into a 2nd Class Lever (like a wheelbarrow). Based on the curb weight of the car (1380kg which doesn't account for any after market modifications, eg bullet proofing), the positioning of the engine, and the length of the wheel base, the lift weight from the front of the car would be approximately 1100 kgs (2425 pounds), The world record deadlift (using free weights) is currently 463 kgs (1020.74 pounds). If you consider the World's Strongest Man competition where they deadlift cars, They use a special lifting frame which extends the lifting range, have cars which are Front Engine (engine sits in front of the wheels = 1st Class Lever) and they are maxing out at about 340 kgs (750 pounds) Even by conservative calculations, this lift is impossible. Thus proving mathematically that Vin Diesel is slowly transforming into the Hulk.

I'm pretty sure that Aaron Norris was single-handedly responsible for killing Chuck Norris' movie career. In under ten years (between Delta Force and Top Dog), Aaron directed 6 movies staring Chuck and oversaw his transition from movie star to direct-to-video cautionary tale. OK.... Chuck had a couple box office flops before Aaron came onboard as a director, but this shocker was definitely the icing on an extremely disappointing cake. Possibly just happy basking in all that "Walker, Texas Ranger" glory

*See "Turner & Hooch".

Are we all in agreement that the rally at the end of the movie should've been called the "Coalition for Racial Stereotypes"?
