Episode 242 - The Boyfriend School
GottaLoveTheGute replied to RyanSz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Love this episode, but it did trigger some mixed feelings for me. My wife and I used to host a podcast called Gotta Love the Gute where we analyzed Guttenbergās films in release order. Our last episode covered 3 Men and a Baby. That was 5 years ago and I havenāt been able to watch a Gute movie since (until now). We stopped for a variety of reasons. It was a lot of work for one and we were already starting to get burned out. We also had our first child on the way, but there was one big reason we were never going to avoid. We were about to enter the Guteās quite long string of bad movies. We had a chance to meet him and like June said in the episode ā Heās a lovely man.ā He was really nice to us and we just couldnāt see slamming him for his post 80s era movies. Sure there are more than a few clunkers in his early days. Thatās to be expected for any young actor, but he was king of the world in the 80s. To go from tying Gene Hackman for most projects in the 80s to being cast once or twice every couple of years must have been devastating. The man we met was a kind and very humbled former box office draw. It would have felt so wrong to rip on his later movies after meeting. Iāll share more Gute tales in a bit but thatās enough for now. -

I think there was beer in that cooler too. You can very briefly see a flash of what looks like a Budweiser can. It can be common to see a cooler full of beer on ice near the register. -
Episode 134 - Can't Stop the Music: LIVE!
GottaLoveTheGute replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Why does Jason take issue with Paul's love of the Gute at the end of the episode? You gotta love the Gute! We have a podcast dedicated to celebrating his whole catalog in chronological order called Gotta Love the Gute. Our episode 3 is all about Can't Stop the Music. We were pretty hard on that movie, but in episode "05 - The Man Who Wasn't There" we realized the error we had made. If you are like Paul and love the Gute, check out our podcast! -

No mini episode this week?

Yeah, they really did cover this movie well. Not much to add. Omissions: A few thing did occur to me while struggling through this movie, I don't think Travolta can read aloud. He really stumbles while reading his note in the lunch scene with Jamie Lee Curtis. It's possible he's just having trouble reading his serial killer chicken scratch handwriting. Another point, Travolta seems to be having trouble walking in this movie. He's bumping into walls and falls down the stairs toward the end of the film. Finally, much like the phone call mashup, everyone in this movie is just phoning it in. I think the song I Sweat (Going Through The Motions) by Nona Hendryx used in the first aerobics scene and Dan Hartman's - Talking to the Wall used in the scene where Jamie Lee Curtis is reading Travolta's article sum up this entire film. Everyone in this thing seems to be going through the motions and any character interaction is like talking to a wall.

Did they shut this thing down? If so, maybe the link should be unpinned. -
EPISODE 120 - Masters of the Universe

That's not the Airborne I know. The Gute's Airborne from 1998 is a better candidate. -

I don't know if it's sad, but I listened to Naked Gun on cassette back in 1989. Ok. It does sound kind of sad. -
EPISODE 120 - Masters of the Universe

Corrections and Omissions: So what happened to the past versions of Courteney Cox and Robert Duncan McNeill?! If Cox and McNeill physically travel back in time (like they physically traveled to Eternia) then there must be past versions of themselves Wang Chunging it up in suburbia. So do future Cox and McNeill go into hiding so that that their dopey past selves can live their lives blissfully unaware that in an alternate timeline they had a stupid adventure with a greased up prince and mini-me Phil Spector? Or do they kill their past selves? I hope the script for the sequel at least addressed the time paradox they created. -

EPISODE 115 ā Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!
GottaLoveTheGute replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Correction/Omissions First thanks to Paul for correcting Scott on his pronunciation of Lavalantula. Itās Lavalantula and not Lava-Tarantula. And yes you should watch it. Also, I find it odd that The Gute is playing Colton West his character in Lavalantula in Sharknado 3, but Ian Ziering is playing āIanā instead of Fin Shepard in Lavalantula. Really odd choice and it really doesnāt make any sense if theyāre trying to cultivate a shared universe. Theyāll probably correct this in 2 Lava 2 Lantula. Finally, I think you guys should just write a treatment for Shakenado 4. The producers will realize that your vision of the Sharknado saga is better than anything they could come up with. As for introducing the true villain of Sharknado, Iād like to see Jabberjaw cast as Shark Nā Ado. Heāll finally get the respect he deserves. Nate - Gotta Love the Gute podcast -
Hell yeah! I haven't thought about this movie in a long time. I remember hating it as a kid and I can't imagine it hasn't held up well.

Can't Stop The Music (1980)
GottaLoveTheGute replied to Dave Servo's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
We just covered Can't Stop the Music on our podcast Gotta Love the Gute, but I'd love the hear HDTGM's take on it. The Pseudo autobiography of disco's The Village People. They already covered Xanadu and both these movies where the inspiration for the Razzies. From IMDB.com This film, playing on a 99-cent double bill with Xanadu (1980), inspired John Wilson to create the Golden Raspberry Razzie Awards in 1980. Thoughts? -
The Good Son is a good choice, but if you want to see a child star kill some people, I recommend Mickey (1992). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104870/?ref_=nm_knf_i3 Watch the blonde kid form Family Ties do some crazy shit!
