  1. I hope you all will subscribe to Paul's new show on Stitcher Premium! (Shout out to my BF for making this for my BFF, "that girl" with the question; I was sitting next to her! )

    Episode 201 - Skyscraper

The scene in the beginning where Building Man was demonstrating the Pearl's cameras, making it look like they were standing in the middle of the sky---I don't know about you but I would have done some combination of scream/faint/crap my pants. The Rock was like: "Hm." Also I enjoyed the graphs of the jumping-from-the-crane trajectory, but I really want to see stats about how quickly one could actually climb a crane 98 stories into the sky. This movie makes it seem like 6 or 7 minutes and the dude has a prosthetic leg.

I have a theory re: what "sexual psychopath" might mean. In the movie there's two very uncomfortable instances where Coach either kisses a dead woman or drugs a woman he's about to sleep with. Given that he doesn't seem to care too much for his family, and that he enjoys a good framing, I wonder if he set his son up once he "had to go" to make it look like the son was in fact guilty of the same "sexual psychopath" activity that Coach engages in.

    Celebrate #HDTGM200 !!!

What was your first episode of HDTGM? Twilight Breaking Dawn, Pt. 1. The friend I made a secret pact with to love/hate-watch all the movies in the theater pointed me at this episode. They had me at "Not-Tom-Skerritt." Favorite catchphrase? "This guy gets it" A clip or moment that you'll always remember? (timestamps are nice ) I traveled to Chicago from DC to see the "Striptease" show. June's nuanced take on the vulnerability of sex workers, and also the fact that Paul and Jason weren't even holding up their mics while she was talking made for an unexpectedly emotional memory for me from a show where people scream over each other (to my delight) more often than not. I know it wasn't popular with a lot of people, but in the audience it went over huge. Also, this isn't one particular moment but anytime Paul says something that makes the other hosts basically stop the podcast--I love it. The episode you revisit the most Definitely "Solarbabies." I feel like I can admit to you all that most nights I'm falling asleep to random parts of that episode. The movie that you loved or hated watching I can't believe I used the entirety of my time in the United first-class lounge watching "Ninja Terminator." That was brutal. Probably the most unexpected "I love this" movie was "Death Spa." How HDTGM fits into your weekly routine Every other Thursday/Friday night I'm usually watching an HDTGM movie. My favorite way to listen is on the 2-hour trip to visit my parents in the country on some Saturday mornings; I love to have that stretch of road and nothing to interrupt the podcast. What the show has meant to you after all these years or any other sappy stuff HDTGM is my main podcast. I listen to a lot, but it's the one I totally fangirl for the most. It is very sappy to say, but the two live shows I've been to were so incredibly affirming. I'm taking my boyfriend this weekend to a live show and I'm more emotionally invested in this than him meeting my parents. Also the forums rock. Truly one of the nicest, smartest places on the internet.

I know June watches TLC's 90-Day Fiancé so I'm hoping she saw this. In case you guys don't watch (and, I mean, good for you...), this was in last night's episode. More of a statue than a "dummy," but still creepy.

Anyone else As the kids say, "I ship it."

Episode 194 - Yes, Giorgio: LIVE!

I've always considered myself a "person who likes opera" (and a bigger boy, NBD) based on the fact that I saw exactly one opera, "Rigoletto," late in college as my English-major fatigue really set in. The story went nowhere and there was no resolution and it was such a relief to my over-Shakespeare'd brain. Maybe that's why I like bad movies so much as well... That being said I couldn't believe we were supposed to fall in love with the idea of Circles and Lady Doctor as a thing. I was sure there was going to be some reveal with Carla, like she was insane or having an affair too or a bad person...nothing! She's just some unexciting wife. Yuk.
  8. I'm trying to think of an example where Elwood wasn't shitty to someone. He's a jerk, right? He doesn't even seem to care for his bandmates, who are clearly suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. But if he were truly interested in a kickass band, rather than just obtaining/kidnapping people who would rather be doing something else, seems like he'd follow this lead of someone who is actually enthusiastic about playing for him. I wonder if it has something to do with Popper's look, if Elwood didn't take him seriously because to him there's only one way for a serious blues musician to dress?
  9. This episode has it all: June saying a thing that's a t-shirt immediately, Jason getting violently angry at the movie, and a sad, sad story about Paul's personal life. Why did the crowd at the country fair go insane for the Bluegrass Brothers from the get-go? They were climbing out of their seats before they even starting playing. Did Goodman charm them with his "how-dy!"? Is it that easy?

    Episode 192 - Striptease: LIVE!

I was at this show, and I just wanted to pop in to say that during June's moment, Paul and Jason basically put their mics down the whole time. No one was waiting to jump in (they are better than this, of course, but some comedians would...). Anyway I just wanted to say that it really struck me as a powerful visual. Made me love HDTGM even more.

    Episode 186 - Geostorm: LIVE!

I paused this movie to Google "can you wear bikinis in Dubai" because that seemed like a no-go, but turns out you can. The ISS is a real thing that exists, and the movie starts two years in the future, so...how did "they" (Gerry B., obvs. ) turn the ISS into the fucking USS Enterprise in two years? I'm not sure why the fact that they added on to the space station to such a massive degree bothers me more than the construction of the entire Dutch Boy net, but it does. Also: thank GOD that Indian boy's dog lived. I feel certain that was added in the reshoots because none of the anonymous human peril in the movie was treated with that level of emotion.

    Episode 185 - Adore

Was it weird for anyone else that it wasn't a live episode? I love it either way, no matter what, but I'm so used to them now.

    Episode 185 - Adore

I knew this movie was going to be "good" when I saw just how many damn production companies were involved. That's something I learned from HDTGM. It seemed like it was six minutes before it got to the actual opening credits.
  14. Thanks for bringing this up. It was upsetting. Made me think of the robot woman in "Jason in Space" who had, they said, "a haircut like a shoe."
  15. I wonder if it's because a lot of these futuristic movies are dystopian, where there's super rich and super poor. Or people in control and people not in control, like in the Depression. It's also probably super cheap from a set-decorating perspective, in addition to being a visual shortcut for the audience for "these people have it super rough."
